Rat 23 - AWDG RaR

Preturn: Looked Ok.

IBT: Town (Bagdad) settled just N of us

1475 BC: Kill Arab Archer.

1400 BC: We spotted a new civ's Boat but they didn't stop long enough for us to meet them.
1125 BC: Founded Diffa.
1100 BC: Founded Nguimgi
950 BC: Capture Damascus and start starving it. We control the choke now.

Won battles vs several Archer and Tribesman. Kill 1 spear in the flat and a TG in Damasus with the Archer Army. Defended vs Attacking Champ. Killed one TG with an Archer. The final was the only one we didn't have clear odds in our favor.

Notes:
Boat dropped off settler for Kufah (so boat emptry)
For tech: We are building a final TG before BW. We plan to get mines (construction next, and then I would head for the GL).

looks great :goodjob:

Denting Arabs early will help keep the front to one side only. I am wondering whether we should get attack 3 units as well to be able to attack properly while heading for the GL?

got it

save

funny enough, 86 turns are played..how did that happen
I guess I play until we hit 100 and maybe we continue with 10 or 15 from there

early:
defeat Roman units, get bronze working (we do have gems very close)

middle:
Siamese finish Sphinx, more Romans and Arabs appear
get construction and decide to invest 6 turns for IW

late:
found Zinder that connects the iron for us
Romans finish stonehenge while Polynesians finish Slave Trade
we meet our 4th foe, England
we get IW and now head for the GL

our capital is set to 15spt at slow growth to get 2 turn swords/ spears
upgraded our *warrior for 60 gold as well
on the last turn Romans land a warrior and we got no attack there
we do have 2 swords and 1 archer in our capital for the next player to decide whether to attack that Arab city
Timbuktu's borders will expand and we can connect the gems eventually

I just realized that Nguigmi is threatened by a attack 2 unit, we might want to pull over the spear from Jenne

IBT: Lose Ngumi to Roman Champ.
Move task force to retake it.

In the south, Timbuktu is threaten by swarm of Roman att2 units. Roma doesn't have iron, BTW.

A new pioneer is wandering in the south, the wheat has been claimed by evil Arabs.

Kufah is unrest, they send out an archer towards our belly, eliminated.

My major task force is at the gate of Mecca.

in our four enemies, only English has elephant.

Preturn: Switch Damascus to a Pioneer - it is too big to be happy.

330 BC: Kill some Romans. Bombard at Arabic capitol goes poorly so I hold off attacking.

250 BC: Lots of Elephants coming. Could be trouble.

230 BC: Main stack is on the mountains.

IBT: Bad RNG - we are attacked by the Elephants defending on the mountain and barely win one battle. Our 2 TG, Army, 2 Swords, and 3 Cats are killed. Not good at all. Only good thing is the English attack a Polynesian unit.

210 BC: Do what I can.

IBT: Damascus falls to the d***** English elephants. there is nothing we can do.

190 BC: Several Archers under a Spear will try an attack. Get a Leader = Army.

IBT: Nope the attack force is slaughterd too. Even worse bad RNG and Tessoua falls to the Romans without loss on their side.

170 BC: Building a Spear Army and sending it north. With the enemy having higher speed and attack 4 vs our defense 1-3 (and us losing every battle even when odds are at least even), we are in big trouble

IBT: Diffa holds because the Elephants are going after our Catapults and such. Also enough elephants have been injured to have to heal. We maybe have killed 3 out of 10 so far so most will be back. Landing messes us up even more.

150 BC: Army reaches Diffa.

Notes:
ThERat, I would see where we are at, but I think this game is a loss. Things were going well until suddenly everything fell apart. We got terrible RNG at the same time as a massive attack. Not sure I played it right either. I did not expect the AI to go after our stack of 4 units on the mountains (including an Army), and certainly did not expect the stack to be slaughtered without doing any damage. I am unsure that retreating would have helped though as then we would have been attacked on flat ground (but by fewer elephants). We simply were not ready and didn't have sufficient Spear to survive that many elephants.

Unless some lurker or two agreees to play with us I don't see any reason to try again. We will now run out of time and be down to two players.

ThERat, are you getting the new expansion? I have been considering getting it and trying a game. Maybe we could SG that instead (probably non-aw)?

well, RaR always has the initial stage as the most difficult one. Again we lacked horses or elephants...too bad about the loss...

let's rest this here since our Roster is pretty small anyway.

I plan on getting BtS as well (even I have many gripes about CIV, but it's a civilization game after all). We might want to start a SG there, why not. But, it's not yet availabe here in Singapore. Might need to wait a week or two.

ok, will pm you, what type of game should we play? certainly not AW for a start. maybe a conquest game? I still do not like culture games...Maybe conquest via making everyone a vassal

Not played much with the vassal system so I don't know how hard this is to do. Maybe we just try to see how many vassals we can get (we don't 'lose' if we end up eliminating someone instead).
