A lone scientist will complete research of Map Making this turn. Other would-be scientists are temporarily acting as taxmen.
Tralala - Nearby irrigation will leave Aqueduct 1 shield short. Move to forest for one turn after road is complete
Some builds should be changed to Harbor/Galley. A marketplace in Iron at last probably wouldn't be a bad idea.

very nice job, keep up the good work

We should not fill the armies with 4 units unless we have done so already. We will need to get across the sea sooner than expected I reckon.

In fact, I would leave the next army empty and sail across with a galleys. India can't be that far away and we might want to capture the Glib...

anyway great progress from the sound of it

I'm still up in another game, hopefully I'll finish that soon. I can get this possibly tomorrow.

Finally finished. Highlights are: Carthage is gone, Aztecs are a settler on a redlined Galley, Greeks are down to 2 cities and we got a nice bonus at Athens. We are in the Middle Ages, but still way behind. The other continent has India, Spain, Babylon and Germany, the latter 2 strangely unmet. Here is my turn-log:
Spoiler :

Pre-Flight: CivAssist 2, Word running. Open the save, look things over.
Looks good. Barring the dreaded settler on a galley or a hidden island settlement, the next turn may see the demise of the Aztecs and Carthage. Ping a Greek Galley. Move an Immo out of danger.

Civilian units:
Workers 6
Slaves 16

Military units:
Spearmen 25
Horsemen 6
Catapults 24
Armies 3, 4 Immortals each

Unit Support:
Total units: 85
Allowed: 50
Support cost: 35 gpt

Press enter=>

IBT: We get Map-Making, next is Philosophy in 4 at 10%, +31gpt.
Greek MDI follow our Immo, I’ll see if I can lead them to a kill zone.
Arbela Aqueduct=>Library.

Turn 1, 810 AD: A few starving scientists force me to raise the tech slider to 20%.
Battle of Tlacopan: Cats get 1 hit in 4 shots.
vImmo wins, eHorse wins, and Tlacopan is ours. Aztecs not dead, and Taco Pan(new name) is abutted by a Roman/Babylon red and Mayan/German blue border, so next turn, new wars will start.
Battle of Leptis Magna: Cats go 3 of 3, 3rd Immos win, and city is captured, Carthage is no more!

IBT: Tons of Indian Galleys buzzing around, no landings.
Greek MDI dies on eSpear.
Monkeys Paw Immortals=>Immortals.
Tamuin Aqueduct=>Galley.
Leptis Minor Immortals=>Immortals.
Ooh, a lovely bit of news, the Greeks finish Sun Tzus in Athens, the only thing better than Barracks free on our continent would be free barracks on the other.
Cascade leads to Knights Templar in Madrid and Sistine Chapel in Barcelona.

Turn 2, 820 AD: Strange, there’s still no diplomatic indicator to meet the unknown civs…hmm.
Move troops but no attacks worth doing.

IBT: Aztecs want to talk, nah.
Greek MDIs head back toward Sparta.
Iron at Last Immortals=>Immortals.

Turn 3, 830 AD: Ping the MDIs, kill 1 clean.

IBT: Greek MDI kills a Spear, Greek Knight kills another. Need to get our armies involved.
Antioch Marketplace=Library.
Tula Galley=>Harbor.

Turn 4, 840 AD: Bombard what I can.
Pillage the 1 visible Greek Horses tile.
Move 3rd Immos toward Delphi.
Lower tech slider to 0%, Philosophy in 1 at +81 gpt.

IBT: Indian Galleys mill about. No Greek attacks.
Philosophy arrives, next is Code of Laws in 4 at +43 gpt, slider at 20%.
Pasargadae Aqueduct=>Harbor.
Arbela Library=>Marketplace.

Turn 5, 850 AD: Attack vHoplite at Delphi, losing 1 hp but gaining a promotion. Delphi has Iron, so it might be their only source.
Get a stack of 4 Immos to Sparta and 1 army in range. Sparta shall fall.

IBT: Greek MDI kills an Immortals, Greek Knight kills another. Attack 4 vs defense 2 is bad news for us.
Teoti Marketplace=> Immortals.
No Loco Immortals=>Immortals.
Tralala Aqueduct=>Marketplace.
Leptis Magna Worker=>Worker.
Knossos Worker=> Catapult.
Tamuin Galley=>Harbor.

Turn 6, 860 AD: Battle of Delphi: 3rd Immos lose 3 hp vs Hoplite, then 1 more and Delphi is ours. 1 slave taken.
Battle of Sparta: Cats go 2 of 3. 2nd Immos lose 2 hp vs Hoplite.
Solo Immos win 3 of 4 battles and Sparta has fallen. 4 slaves taken.
Greeks down to 3 cities.

IBT: No attacks, no landings.
Monkeys Paw Immortals=>Immortals.
Iron at Last Immortals=>Immortals.
Antioch Library=>Immortals.
Pharsalos deposes us, with no troops handy to retake it from their insta-hoplite.

Turn 7, 870 AD: Send troops toward Pharsalos. In any other game, it would be burned.

IBT: Greeks dispatch a Knight towards unguarded Delphi.
Xo What Galley=>Galley.
Theveste Worker=>Worker.
Leptis Minor Immortals=>Immortals.

Turn 8, 880 AD: 3rd Immortals gravely wounded destroying Greek Knight.
Somewhere along the way, Spain shows up. Declare war on them. They could sell contact with Germany and Babylon…fat chance!
Lower tech slider to 0%, Code of Laws in 1 at +104 gpt.

IBT: Code of Laws arrives. Or freebie is Monotheism. I choose Feudalism next in 5 turns at -10 gpt at 50%.
Carthage Galley=>Library.
Teoti Immortals=>Immortals.
Antioch Immortals=>Immortals.
Malinalco Worker=>Catapult.

Turn 9, 890 AD: Get 2 armies to Athens, 4 Immos to Pharsalos.
Greeks have rushed veteran Hoplites at both towns.

IBT: See an Aztec Galley near Athens still redlined, so there’s a settler aboard. A Greek Caravel heads out, probably also carrying a settler.
Pasargadae Harbor=>Library.
Hippo Worker=>Worker.

Turn 10, 900 AD: Battle to recover Pharsalos: Cats go 1 for 2.
Immos do well, 1st wins clean, 2nd loses an hp but goes elite, Pharsalos is ours.
Battle of Athens: 1st Immortals loses 1 hp vs a veteran, 6 vs a regular.
2nd Immortals loses 4 hp to another regular, and Athens is ours.
ToA and Sun Tzus are ours….niiice.
Sorry about the poor MM and dumb worker assignments. Please change whatever makes no sense.

sounds excellent!

ToA and Sun tzu will get us a long way, especially as we should plan to research up to MT first before anything else (with maybe chivalry inserted)

got it

Pre-Turn
change some stuff from mil to infra buildings, some courts would do us good
reduce lux to 10%, increase science to 70% and we save a turn to feudalism

IT we defeat a Greek caravel but Sparta deposes us

1. 910AD
get Sparta back
approach Thermopylae

2. 920AD
start to attack Thermopylae, spot Greeks last city, Corinth

IT Greeks still have knights and send 2 of them towards Athens :eek:
we get feudalism, engineering next in 6
Bach and Cops get started, are we a little behind?

3. 930AD
take Thermopylae, take out both knights next to Athens and start to attack Corinth
take out a landed Indian sword next to Athens as well

4. 940AD
take Corinth and Greece is gone, now we can quell all resistors and spread our armies

IT huge round of border expansions which will disturb all MM
Spain seems to be the runaway civ and finishes Cops

5. 950AD
we meet the totally back ward Germany
well, they got only 2 cities
reduce lux to 0% with 5 luxes and ToA, we should be able to maintain that
building markets will also help
science to 90% and engineering due in 3

IT Sparta is the new attraction for the AI, 3 units landed there

6. 960AD
most of the catapults are still around the area, so we can clear 3 units
and yes, we get a much needed leader, but first we must know where to send the potential army
send MGL to Iron at last and form an army, empty of course

explore German island

7. 970AD
meet Babylon, which is also on that Island
they have 9 cities and have chivalry over us

IT it's clear that Spain, Babylon and Germany are in the west, while India comes from the east
we get engineering, chivalry for knights next at a handsome surplus in 4

8. 980AD
find out that none of the AI has even engineering, that's good
send a suicide galley towards where I think India could be

IT Spain starts Magellan, but doesn't even have engineering? weird
we lose the suicide galley

9. 990AD
sink the Aztec galley, but they have another city

10. 1000AD
our capital is finally at 15spt for 2 turn immortal or pikes

ok, so here is what I suggest:
build up a force of pikes and then at least 3-5 knights
we land the pikes and loose knights on German hilly soil
we hope to be able to survive the onslaught, the next turn a 1 knight army is landed
immediately we can fill the army with 2 previously landed knights

this is the only way it works

as for research I suggest to get up to MT first before going for education as the ToA is great

I suggest not going for Education at all, as the GLib is great.

If we go up the Military Tradition path, the only thing we'll need on the upper path is Astronomy which gets us Caravels. If we capture the GLib, it will give us those techs we missed and then its done, as will the ToA. Meanwhile, we capture the world with a swarm of Galleys. I'm glad that the Greeks are gone, those flips were getting old fast. What I didnt see in the turn-log was, what happened to the Aztecs on their little boat?
Last I saw, they were offshore of Athens.

Tha Aztec boat was sunk but they have another city elsewhere, but we don't know where it is.

Flip risk is small though and shouldn't be an issue with all the culture we make now due to ToA.

Great work guys.

If anyone has a chance to check the map with seed-beast I would be curious to know what kind of map it is. It was supposed to be Pangea but the disconnect is odd. So is it an odd shaped pangea (cut in half) or did I make a mistake somewhere(always possible)?

Everyone remember that Spain's 6 move UU will be around when we cross? Don't leave things exposed. Also watch out because Conquistador landing on our continent can make defense really hard if we don't have sufficient units to either kill it or to defend every city within 6.

Yes, the Conquistador has been a pain in the rear defending against in previous efforts, they can dart out of the shadows and steal workers or undefended catapults, since those 6 moves are regardless of terrain or foreign territory. A very under-rated unit, hopefully we won't see many.

Edit: Civassist 2 considers it a Pangaea. I guess our Pangaea is broken up, sort of into uhhh Continents.

Pre-turn:

Look around, change a few geeks to taxmen. Otherwise, things look good. I'm assuming that the Army near No Loco is for Knights once we have 'em.

IT:

Watch lots of Galleys go zooming around.
Teoti: Pikes
Arbela: Pikes
Antioch: Pikes

Turn 1 (1010 AD):

Change Teoti to Wealth to avoid spending a forest chop on a Pike.
Upgrade a spear to Pike near the continental crossing.

IT:

Chivalry->Invention
(change build orders to Knights instead of Pikes)
Pharsalos: Trebs
Tula: Harbor->Galley

Turn 2 (1020 AD):

MMing and moving troops.

IT:

Zzz...

Turn 3 (1030 AD):

Zzz...

IT:

Spanish troops land on the NE coast.
Tralala: Courthouse->Knight
Leptis Magna and Iron at Last both riot :blush:
Lose a Galley in the sea.

Turn 4 (1040 AD):

Upgrade a Horse to a Knight and bombard some Bab Galleys.
Immo army kills one of the Spaniards. (1-0)

IT:

Pasargadae: Knights
Texcoco: Courthouse->Mkt
Antioch: Knights

Turn 5 (1050 AD):

Army kills other Spaniard (2-0)
Sci slider to 70%, Invention still due in 2.

IT:

Spain lands more troops.
Arbela: Knights
Theveste: Treb->Mkt
Tamuin: Mkt->Knight

Turn 6 (1060 AD):

Kill the Conquistador and Horseman that Spain landed (4-0).
Hurry a Galley in Tzin.

IT:

More Spaniards land. Oh, joy.
Invention->Gunpowder
Tzin: Galleys
Babs start Bach's.

Turn 7 (1070 AD):

Sci slider to 90%, Gunpowder due in 5 at -51 gpt.

IT:

Teoti: Knights

Turn 8 (1080 AD):

Upgrade a Spear to a Pike.
Load the first Knight into the Army.
Hurry a Galley in Tlacopan.

IT:

Monkey's Paw: Mkt->Knight
Tlacopan: Galleys
Antioch: Knights

Turn 9 (1090 AD):

Move troops.

IT:

Athens: Workers
Pasargadae: Knights
Delphi: Trebs
Tralala: Knights
Tula: Galleys
Palace expansion.

Turn 10 (1100 AD):

Upgrade another Spear to Pike in Tlacopan.
The lone worker by the capital is intended to road and mine one of the mountain squares there - the capital is currently working an unimproved mountain!

I'm ready for a risky invasion of Babylon - but we might want to wait another half a turnset to amass another 4 Pikes in two more Galleys. Regardless of when we want to invade, I have 4 loaded Galleys fortified in Tlacopan. They can be launched as early as this turn. I left the Knight Army out of hte Galleys because I didn't want to risk it on the beachhead.

The Galley near Berlin carries a decoy spear - drop him far away from our intended landing zone.

I am so used to the long research times of the huge games, that 4 turn research and the like is so surprising. We seem to do very well and do not need the Glib in the end anyway as I don't think the AI is that fast.

I don't want us to artifiscially wait and do nothing much due to that. Only if we can reach India with galleys, might we delay education, I'd say.

Anyway, nice to get us almost ready for the drop off.

As I pointed out, get the knights to drop a turn before the army. We don't want the army to die uncessarly. I would drop them off the iorn hill in German land, the enemy might not reach us properly and Germany should be pretty weak to start with.

I was thinking of doing a 1-turn drop from Tlacopan to the hill south of Eulbar

Turn 1 - move galleys, drop Pikes on hill
Turn 2 - return galleys to Tlacopan, load with reinforcements
Turn 3 - drop reinforcements on the stack
Turn 4 - bombard Eulbar and (hopefully) take it.

Dropping on the hill SW of Konigsberg will slow the flow of reinforcements.

Though...we COULD drop most of our invasion force on the island SE of Konigsberg, then transfer units on and off the boats every turn. Thoughts?
