Rat 40 - Introduction to CCM

I remember some strange deal with trying to recapture workers, that it could not be done. I am not real sure and the pedia did not say anything about slaves or workers.

BTW it is Explosives that allow us to make workers.

Got it.

If we go to war with the Southern civs, a single outpost can theoretically give 7 extra turns warning, though usually its more like 4. Can be worth the one worker.

Otherwise if we get workers late, then yes, we will likely own the continent before we have enough to cover the mountain range. For that case we just need a very few for the coast.

Man I do not even remember any castle ships, maybe it is not available for all. Not sure what could hit us from water at this stage and be hidden. I guess I need to get off the coast.

Is the plan for the current settler to grab the iron? What if we move to the spot on th e coast below the phant and opver one? It could grab the Iron and the Wine. It will be some time, before we can road the wine and hold it, so we could just go with the spot marked?

I hope to finish tonight, but got to watch the Tour of California. That may slow me down.

I agree that an iron town is the best of a bad choice for our new settler, but I'd put it on the tile SW of the iron, to claim the gold hill and some river tiles while still taking in two of the three flood plains. The desert tiles aren't a long-term problem, since we're agricultural.

After it produces its present spearman, Angkor can be micromanaged to reach 20 spt and pump out as many one-turn spearmen as the next player wants. So we don't need to build a regular spearman in Bangkok.

At some point in the next round we might want to take three turns to build a granary in Angkor. This is one of the builds that are more useful in CCM than in the basic game.

660 BC: Kill both Invisible units, though we lose a Bowman in Bankok trying to do so. Try to take back 2 of the Workers but they die??

Did you make this attack with a slaver? I've found that when a slaver moves onto unprotected workers, it often just destroys them.

What is the thinking on The Great Pogoda? It makes a Yogi every 8 turns. They have enslave and get monks as the slave unit.

It is 15 turns in Angkor. I forget the next size for a town after 10. Is it 14 or no limit? I ask as I am not sure about a granary in a size 11 town and limited lux.

We should definitely wait until we can rush the Great Pagoda with our first Leader, which has to come eventually. We can't take Angkor off military production for fifteen turns when we're going to go right into the Korean war after we finish off the Japanese. Also, AFAIK there's almost nothing else useful we can do with a Leader at this point in this mod anyway. It would be absurd to hand-build the GP and then end up using our first Leader for a marketplace or something.

I believe I've gotten cities to at least size sixteen in other games without anything except rivers/aqueducts.

It hurts to lose workers that way, we ought to cover them with 2 units if we have such a big stack of them. Luckily, our workers are industrious and work faster.
It will take a long time until we can build our own workforce.

By the way, prophets and later lawyers are great units. The resulting monks and artists can make warfare that much faster. You conquer a city and culture bomb it with a monk for 2 border expansions and can then attack the next city that much faster.

Thus, if we fail to get a leader soon, I agree to hand build the Great Pagoda.

You know more about it than I do, but could you address my point about what else we could do with our first Leader, if he doesn't rush the GP? Would we end up rushing something worth just a hundred shields?

I think we can always rush the World Religion. I do love my culture bombs, but I have not started the Pagoda. I will leave that for the next one, unless I get a leader. three towns down and I guess 1 to go. I cannot see any right now.

I am not sure I read it correctly, but I are we talking about workers lost that Greebly mentioned? I think those were ones he had hope to capture, but died. I never figured out the deal on that.

I know it happen in my games, but I am not clear on the circimstances.

I try to stack extra Prophets so I can do as you mentioned, just blow out the border and hit the next place or at least slow down incoming.

Sounds good. :goodjob:

Unless CCM is more different than I understand, we can't rush World Religion with an MGL because it's a Great Wonder.

Probably true, if you cannot make armies, they should have flag wonders for any leader.

PRE:
Nothing for me to do, except consider Bangkok. I do not know what is to be expected here, so I leave the spear build. I considered going with Slavery for the extra shield rather than a reg spear. That can wait a few turns and see what happens.

IBT:
boats try to bombard our town and the stack and miss. I hear a horn of some type, no idea what it was for and then I heard a moan, but I saw no action?

500BC (1):
WE dies on spear in town (0-1), not a good start.
WE kills spear (1-1), better.

Bow kills wounded spear (2-1).
Enslaver kills the archer (3-1). Autorazed town for 1 slave and 1 gold. There was a worker in the town.

The town going down leaves a lot of open land to our west now. Three units healing and the slaves heads towards the Banana.

eWE kills Spanish spear (4-1).

IBT:
3 boats rush out and 2 bomb Bangkok.

475BC (2):
Upgrade the free chariot.
Cats cannot bombard boats, forgot that. I think they are like Civ4 and can only attack.
Supply cart, I think it has to go to the capitol, so I send it on as safe a route as I can.
Slave has no real job near Osaka, so move towards grass in Bangkok.

eWE kills spear in Tokyo and we capture it (1-0).
Not sure what to do with it now as we have 8 resisters and cannot pop out workers or settlers. Start a Nat Sym for now. Stick in 2 more units.

I move rest of stack towrds what must be a town and find Kyoto and a Castle boat. I think I would prefer some phants rather than more spears as we have a long way to trek to Japan and Korea now.

Spain has 6 boats near Bangkok and Tokyo, so we are going to lose some hit points. I just hope Korea will not want to rush in on us for a time. The castle boat did hit one of the boats.

IBT:
all boats fail to hit, even the Japanese one. AI must love boats as another one shows up from Spain. I saw spear in Kyoto defend the city, must have been an enslaver. I do not have anyone that can detect them in the small group, so I cannot tell.

Japan finished GL.

Our slaver is in Tokyo healing as I figure they need it more. The phants can defend against an enslaver anyway.
[5-1]

450BC (3):
vWE kills spear (1-0).
eWE kills spear (2-0).
vWE kills chariot (3-0). We capture Kyoto and the GL. 6 resisters.

Iron gets a road. Settler in place for next turn to bring it in the net.
Not sure why, but Tokyo is now 2 net with no corrupt shields and Nat Sym in 4 rather than 9. I guess the culture removed from Kyoto?

I decided to start the wounded from razed town back to Kyoto area as one is a chariot and the other is an enslaver.

We could use them for MP. Not going to go to war with anyone we met out there right now anyway. They are not full health, but green.

Osaka I switched from the spear ( no rax) to Slavery for now.
I am making WE in Angkor, rather than spears.

I do the same in Bangkok. Not making boats as we cannot take on that many profitably. Better to just kill Spain.

IBT:
I fogot to mention India made WorldReglion last turn.
1 of 7 boats hit, so been very lucky there.

WE was attacked by hidden unit, but wins and is now elite 3/6 (1-0).
[9-1]

425BC (4):
New enslaver born.
castle hit boat.

Found Vientine.
We now have Iron, but not going to make swords at 25 shields over 40 shields WE. Better defense, extra move and extra HP, worth the cost. May want a few on MP to attack landers, but probably not even then. Spears are cheaper MP.

Scout boat finds Brieme and Cat ships from Carthage headed towards Japan. I move into sea as a precaution.

IBT:
1 of 5 boats hit.
Japan lands a settler

400BC (5):
We can now build the Great Mine in Vientine.

3/4 chariot kills the spear and we get one slave. Yes the slave sees the Enslaver as one is next to the newly captured unit. I move it and neither the enslaver or chariot see it now. I move the slave towards Osaka and the 2/4 enslver of ours that way. I am forced to leave the chariot to its own. (1-0).

I remember now, I need to capture the supply.

IBT:
2/4 chariot dies as expected (0-1) [9-2].
GLB done by Brits and Ghandi did the Pilgrimage.
Many working on other ones announced.
2/5 boats hit.

375BC (6):

IBT:
Ghandi finished MoM, dang another one.
Boats 2/5.

350BC (7):
Chariot from Osaka kills Enslaver (1-0). I did a probe, where I felt it would be and got it clean. [10-2]

IBT:
2/4 on the boats.
Henry demands Lit, but I did not give, so we got a DOW. The wines deal would have expired anyway. Now we need to watch the other border.

325BC (8):
300BC (9):
2/4 again on the boats.
captured towns are out of resistance.
eWE kills hidden unit on the way to Japan (1-0). [11-2]
4 phants in Korean borders and hope they do not try to kick us out.

India has a bow next to us at Vientine.

IBT:
Not so good on the Korea thing. They would auto move the troops, so I had to declare. Not bad I only got us into 2 more wars. :D
0/4 on boats.

275BC (10):
Supply from capitol.
Drop research to 20.

IBT:
Hidden unit attacks Edo and dies.

250BC (11):
Monarchy in. Select Republic and up to 80% for now.
Next player can decide when to revolt.

eWE barely kills spear in Edo (1-0).
5/6 WE kills spear (2-0).
vWE kill last one (3-0). We get 133 gold. Japan is gone. No settlers out and about.

Stop here with two new units in Angkor not moved.

A lone archer form India is out in forest west of Vientine someplace.
I have added troops to the south in case of Henry coming.
[14-2]

Took me longer as we had a small storm knocked me down a few times. I shutdown during the lighting to be safe. Central Florida lighting capitol.

Summary:

War with Japan ended, they are gone.
Spain still at war.
Portugal at war.
Korea at war.

Not seeing troops from any so far.

Monarchy available for revolt. Start Republic becasue it offers AC. Dropped to 9 turns with capture of Edo. No beakers in yet iirc.

Just trying to keep workers busy and not in danger so far. hidden units all over the place.

Took me longer as we had a small storm knocked me down a few times.

I trust that's just a metaphor?

Good work against the Japanese. :goodjob:

We can get Republic right now from the Carthaginians or the Canadians for Monarchy and some gold.

We need to get a roading stack of three native workers to the Korean front, regardless of how painful it is to lose worker-turns to movement. Otherwise our operations there will be slow and inflexible, and we'll lose too many of our fast units to theirs.

BTW the Koreans have the Temple of Baalbek, so some of their invisible units have attack factor three. We can see that they culture-bombed Satsuma.

with the many wars going, shall we hold off to revolt a little until the situation is clearer?

got it
