Rat16 - warmongers go immortal

ok, I will try and take my turns tonight then

I looked at the savem not sure whether the troops are sufficient to beat Khan. This is immortal and I doubt it would. It would be nice to get someone to fight Khan as well.

Will play on Thursday/Friday noght only though.

Pre-Turn
our force is too small I think, this is immortal after all
if we could get an ally, it would be easier

went for RR, then in 1691AD, Alex has constitution
get that plus 70gold from Alex, I hope Hatty won't get it next turn
next turn I try to trade with Hatty, but suddenly she has it as well
in 1697AD finally whip the Globe Theatre in York
get RR in 1700AD, we can trade that for Mil Tradition with Hatty

decide it's time to declare war and get Hatty in
once I declared, she is willing to join in and give us Mil Tradition as well fro RR
go for corporation next

I wait for Khan to make a first move before committing our own troops
he comes with a stack towards our land, decide to switch off research for a while to upgrade our troops

in 1709AD Khan comes with a small stack towards New Sarai
though we get pillaged, manage to whipe out a bigger stack with the help of some cannon sacrifices

stop there, we need to heal our stack and can then think of going after Khan
I would leave research for now to upgrade those cats to cannons to go after Khan

situation:

that's ok, we have a short roster and this game doesn't need to be played 24/48...

I played yesterday, but the forums were down. You all get a detailed report this time as getting a an edge militarily seemed crucial during these turns.
Preturn:
I agree on getting Khan to move first. I will try a pillage as well. I have seen that sometimes stimulate the AI into sending a bigger stack.

IBT: Two Cavalry and a Cannon on our doorstep.

1715 AD: Attack a Cavalry with a Redcoat (they have +25 attack vs mounted) at 80% and lose. Ouch! We can't afford much of that. Win the next two (75% to 80% odds) but lose the next at 72% odds.
Finally kill the final unit. Use the Machine Guns to cover our attacking units. 3-2
Upgrades: Musket->RedCoat, Knight->Cavalry.

Rush unit in York. I think I will be rushing as quickly as possible, but keep our size at 3 or more because of the 3 food bonuses (whenever we reach size 6).

IBT: Rifle, Cavalry, 2 Gren, 2 Cannon show up. Border is pillaged.

I718 AD: I kill the Rifle at 75% attack, but cannot kill the Cavalry on top at better than 50% so I hold off for now. 4-2
By raising Lux to 20% and starving a food a turn I can get the Ironworks from 31 to 17 turns. I do so.
Also adjust other towns in favor of shields for the war - at least until we are making some progress.

IBT: The cannon attack our town walls. Build two more Redcoats. Redcoats are the for good odds at the moment since they can handle Cav with the +25 Bonus and are stronger than the Rifles and Grenadiers.
The redoats are going to be a very useful UU this game because they are here right when we need strong troops the most.

1721 AD: Win 78% vs Cav, 91% vs Gren with redcoats. Win 96% vs Gren with Cavalry. Win 2 attacks vs Cannon with Redcoats at 90%. We have cleared the enemy out of our lands again 10-2
Rush another Redcoat in York.

IBT: No Khan units? Build 2-3 redcoats.
Cyrus declares war on Khan!!!!
Very nice. I think I may try an offensive. We got a good number of redcoats built or being built so I will switch to Cannon as the most built unit. I expect we will sacrifice a number of those.

1724 AD: Pillage some Horses to see if I get a response. Units are healing and attack will start when enough are healed.
Also will be upgrading some Catapults - I think those will be the last excepting only an Axman with 3 levels of city attack. Lux to 30% so we can continue full speed on the Iron Works.

1727 AD: Send off an attack force. Some units are reserved for countering Khan, though I don't think he will be attacking I will move these out after the first city falls.

IBT: One of Khan's city falls to Cyrus. Cyrus has Infantry now.

1730 AD: Move next to Pi-Ramses.

IBT: Moving next to the city got a response as two Cannon attack (crossriver). we kil them both 12-2

1732 AD: Axman upgraded. Running 30% science and 30% Lux/culture
Lose 2 Cannon attacking Pi-Ramses.
Rush another Redcoat in York.
We then win attacks at 70, 88, 91, and 4 at 95+ % odds. Pi-Ramesses is captured. The border doesn't move at all. So much for moving my troops after taking the town 19-4
I think I will be going for two cities next. I think we finally have the troops for it.

Here is a picture:

IBT: Kill two Cannon on defense. 21-4

1734 AD: Need to heal units before advancing.

IBT: Kill 1 Cannon on defense. Another one retreats. 22-4

1736 AD: Healing with first stack. Advancing with the second. Kill the Cannon that retreated 23-4

IBT: No attacks. Egypt makes peace with Khan.

1738 AD: Step next to Turfan. Its got some doubly promoted city defense Riflemen

IBT: Nada

1740 AD: Bombard Turfan with Cannon and Catapults.
Attack Using Redcoats and Grenadiers - win 3 at about 65% and one at 77% (got lucky this turn) to kill 4 rifles. 29-4
Two attacks at 95+ and the city falls Turfan is captured Border finally moves.

Do some trades - Hit singles are now Avail so I get the +1 happiness and we can lower our Lux/culture rate to 20%. I also traded for Corp as Egypt was willing to trade for it.
Start work on Assembly line for infantry.

Notes:

Since we have enough troops for the moment, I have put York on Specialists. In two turns we get a great leader. After that I would go back to rushing military every 4 odd turns again. It a better rushing city than specialist city due to Globe Theatre. Besides we have other towns on specialists - Tours and Paris.

I would go after Elephantine and Old Sarai next. After that I think we should head west rather than towards the capitol Lets let Cyrus fight the more heavily guarded core while we grab the easier cities to the west.

WW may end the war for us. I would like to grab as many cities as we can before we stop. Perhaps building Jails would be a good idea. Some unhappiness seems tolerable to me.

Our research is lousy. 31 turns to get Infantry.

I MMed back away from shields. Next player should check it out. It saved 2 turns on the infantry. We should discuss if 31 turns is too long to wait. Note that if we get peace the research rate can use the 20% lux/culture to be faster.

As a final summary we are doing well against every civ excepting Cyrus. We will need to fight him , but I would prefer to have infantry when we do. Lets get more cities for more production first. I do not think Cyrus is the tech leader - America seems to be stronger. It might be worth hurting him as well.

The Irony of having such good relations in a war monger game gets me every time. Some games I would kill to be friendly with 2 and pleased with 2? of the five civs. In this game it will all end in tears.

Maybe we can try to get Assembly line for Peace?

great work Greebley, capturing 2 cities seems very good. Let's grab as much land as possible. Cyrus declaring was really good for us.
I am a little undecided about techs. Obviously our research rate stinks. Maybe a specialist can help with pointy stick research.

Till, you're up of course.

:bump: Till, you know you're up?

Inherited turn:

Nothing to do. Build orders look fine and there's nothing to do on the diplo front.

1:

Move units into Turfan for healing. Advance towards Elephantine.

2:

IBT: A cannon attacks the stack near Elephantine

Dispatch of the cannon and move next to the city.
York spawns great a great engineer. We are at 795/12187 beakers for Assembly line.
The GE could push us 1896 beakers forward. I don't think that's a good deal. Khan doesn't have Assembly Line, only Scientific Method (~5000 beakers).
He's not ready to part with it (at least he is not offering it). I'll just let the GE sleep for now. In case Khan gets AL, we can try pointy stick and if he doesn't we can still use him to further self research.
Fire specialists in York.

3:

Pi-Ramesses comes online.
Take Elephantine losing one catapult.

6:

Rosi wants us to cancel all deals with Alex.
Capture El-Armarna losing a redcoat and a cannon.

7:

IBT:
Two cannons attack our stacks, but are defeated.
Stack arrives at Beshbalik.

8:

Elephantine comes online.

9:
IBT:
Artillery hell breaks lose. Khan attacks with no less than 5 cannons, killing one cavalry.
Capture Beshabik, but it is a costly victory. 3 cannons , 1 catapult, 1 grenadier and 2 redcoats die.

10:
Raze Argos.

Assembly Line is 18 turns away. Khan still seems unwilling to part with even Scientific Method. We might want to consider self research, as i doubt Khan will either get AL nor part with it. Our economy is in dire straits. Recend captures put a hefty strain on it. Running @ -62gp/t right now. Loot keeps us running, but we probably want to whip courthouses left and right, once the opportunity arises.

The Save

played some turns, 7 to be precise, now I have some problems with my aircon, thus had to stop playing, will try and continue tomorrow

what happened so far?

Cyrus completed the Apollo prgramme, so we know our next opponent
marched towards more cities
got a GE and rushes National Epic with it in Paris

on turn 3 razed Delphi for the loss of a gren at 97%
on turn 5 Persia came rolling with tanks into Khan's land
kept on pillaging to keep us afloat
on turn 7 catured Old Sarai for 2 cannons

The game is pretty ugly as we have to run 30% lux and still face unhappiness. Khan's land is big and the war is very slow. However, he lost all his key cities except the capital, yet his borders are huge and he won't part with a tech or town.

I will be travelling for Thanksgiving. It is a long drive off to TX to see my wifes family. I will leave this Friday Nov 18. and suspect to be back around Nov 30. I hope to be able to comment to the forum, but won't be able to play.

I have another game to play and so do not think I can play before I leave even if ThERat finishes soon.

Not sure whether you all want to wait. Maybe acidsatyr can play after ThERat?

I was holding back with my turns since I knew that Greebley is busy anyway with another game.

Since Greebely is now gone until Nov 30th, we can get acid to play turns then Till. Acid, would you be able to play in the next few days, if I post the save tonight?

honestly no, probably not, sorry, too much other stuff going on right now....

save

somehow lost my notes, played until 1786AD

I was fighting the war against aKhan with Cyrus pillaging his land to stoneage.
pillaging kept ourselves alive financially

I took 2 cities and while Cyurs pillaged all the nice cottages we could have inherited, I tried to get the capital
computer crashed due to ???

in 1786AD, we take Khan's capital, also raze Heliopolis
I think it's time for peace, but Khan won't share anything
we can also take out Memphis as the final city. I would raze it though.
There are some troops in Old Sarai for that
we are running at 30% culture and WW is terrible.
Cyrus started building SS parts already and is the one opponent to be stopped
How we achieve that is another story as he has tanks.

the situation in Khan's land

Definitely going to play this weekend, unless acid grabs it first.
The tanks are very bad news, i don't think i have ever played against them with inferior units. I'll probably switch most of the production towards cannons, as we'll need plenty of those to tackle tanks.
