Rat16 - warmongers go immortal

Definitely going to play this weekend, unless acid grabs it first.
The tanks are very bad news, i don't think i have ever played against them with inferior units. I'll probably switch most of the production towards cannons, as we'll need plenty of those to tackle tanks.

So much for definitely. Weekend turned out very differently from what i hoped, with no time for civ. Will play my turns tomorrow.

I played until Assembly Line had been researched.
TheRat was correct about pillaging:
a) It financed our research.
b) Khan's land is a barren waste by now.
c) Cyrus tanks were hell bent on getting the largest towns to loot.

During my turns, Khan southern cities were swallowed by Cyrus.
civ4screenshot0001amh4.jpg

His northern cities still stand, but Cyrus has his tanks in the area and so do we (well not tanks, but troopers). I build mostly cannons, figuring they'd be useful for a while. Now that we can build infantry, we should turn against Cyrus. He already has artillery, tanks and infantry, but if the war against Khan is any indication, he'll use them to pillage rather than conquest.

Northern Front:

Unhappiness is high, with culture slider being at 30%. The problem should lessen, once Khan is out of the picture.
Research is currently on Combustion, in want of a better target. I can't think of anything, at the moment. The research situation is extremely bleak, i don't see us making much progress without further pillaging...
The Save

I found that actually highly annoying that Cyrus pillaged all the land we would inherit. So, just raze those towns as they have no value anyway.

What do you think, should we make peace with Khan (and get some techs if possible) and hope Cyrus eliminates him? We need to turn against cyrus quickly anyway

Greebley is up

Can't believe i forgot to check if Khan offered techs for peace!
I think we should build/whip some infantry before declaring on Cyrus, which leaves us with a couple of turns to wipe out Khan, if he doesn't offer techs for peace.

We can get a city for peace but not a tech. I am inclined to take the city. What do you all think?

I will wait for an answer to play as I think this is a decision better discussed (and I am also less familiar with the situation than you).

Additionally, I see we are building markets and such. I am guessing we want to build up our economy before taking on Cyrus then? Should we remain peaceful or go for someone like Alex?

Actually, how about going after America? America is the tech leader with a huge amount of commerce. Knocking him out will slow Cyrus as well since they cannot trade techs. He seems more reasonable to fight than Cyrus right away. I probably wouldn't declare war right away though.

Hmm... Cyrus is a monster. I probably would trade AL with hatty, she offer liberalism +sci method+gold +map for that.
Who to figth? America did not figth any wars, I think. They migth have some Sod around.
One othe rhand figtng them you will have only small front.
But you would need to finish Khan to get to America.

I do not know, if you take America and Hatty will it be enogth for domination?

maybe we take that city from Khan and hope they will be wiped out anyway. Then going after America, trying to pull in someone might be a good idea.

Preturn: Get Knossus for Peace.
Trade for Liberalism and Sci Meth for Assem Line.
Change to free Speech for more commerce ( 2 turns Anarchy).
Start Factories in some towns.

1806 AD: Anarchy. Knossos has riots (greek culture)

1808 AD: Anarchy

1810 AD: Researching Communism for state Property.

1811 AD: Greece and Egypt are fighting.

1812 AD:

IBT: Finally Khan is eliminated.

1813 AD: Rush a settler in case there is good land to take (it looks like it).

1814: AD: Still having problems with Knossus. Sending more troops to try to suppress riot/flip chance.

1815 AD:

IBT: Cyrus offers a defense pact. I say yes as I don't think we want to war him right away and we certainly are not afraid to fight anyone else with his support.

1816 AD: Build city to replace Khan's last city.

1817 AD: Knossus now has enough troops (and culture) that the flip chance is 0.

Does everyone know how this works? If you hold the mouse over the "5% English" bar to the right it lists chance of a riot. Adding troops reduces the chance. It was 4.6% even with 6 or so troops so once Khan wasn't in the way, I added another 8 troops and now no flip chance is listed (it is zero). Additionally with 6 or so units in it, it will riot but not flip to another civ. Each unit takes damage - I guess if all are killed then it flips?

1818 AD: We got a great engineer(previously). I have hurried the Pentagon - with a factory and coal plant in hastings we can get it in 9 turns now. I am hoping we can thus build it first.

1819 AD:

1820 AD:

Notes:
Pentagon is a bit of a gamble - It finishes in 7 turns (we are 2/3 done). I felt it worth it if we can get it. We are building it in a high shield town along with the great engineer gives us a reasonable chance I think.
Mostly building infra - factories and such.

Knossus is running a specialist (artist) to increase its stability. I think this should be changed to growth after a bit more (next turn it will grow it cultural boundary so maybe then) as it is stagnant.

I am building irrigation to rice. Finish this up for the +1 food.

We are 2 turns from communism which will greatly reduce the costs of our towns under state property (one town is 8 gold even with courthouse so over half is distance cost).

I haven't checked Diplo recently....

from this somewhat bad starting location, we managed to take out Khan and Louis so far, not bad.
Whom should we attack next? From a strategic position, Alex looks like the best or maybe Hatty?

Pre-Turn
MM extensively and get communism in 2 at -37gpt from -44gpt in 3
start to shift units to the front for the war against Greece

1. 1821AD/B]
borders in Knossos expand
time to start the war against Greece

2. 1822AD
communism is in, revolt to state property
capture Hirancopolis in exchange for 1 cannon (the city will give us gems eventually)

3. 1823AD
start marching towards Greece

4. 1824AD
we adopt state property and can run 60% science now, biology in 15

5. 1825AD
reach Corinth and Myceneae

6. 1826AD
lose 1 cannon and raze Mycenea
reduce defenses at Corinth

7. 1827AD
cannons again do half of the job at Cornith and we take the city

8. 1828AD
we get the pentagon  and can start 1.5 turn infantry there
we get a Great Artist, whom I send towards Greece
shift troops towards Athens

9. 1829AD
Greek show some resistnce as they trhow 4 cannons and a Cav at us defeating one Cav
step next to Athens with 1 Cav defeating a cannon and spot 5 cannons 4 rifles inside

10. 1830AD
to top my last turn, lose a infantry against cav at 96%, we have a small stack next to Athens
it has an infantry on top, hope we can absorb the attacks
biology will be done in around 7 turns, Hatty doesn't have it and also doesn't have communism, but her deal is abysmal as usual. Will give us her map for it

Cyrus finished another space part and we need to go after him once we took care of Alex I think

at Athens

must :bump: this... :D
Till do you have it or will you play it?

Inherited turn:

Cities look good. Cyrus has 6 space ship parts.

IT:
Cannon withdraws against the stack near Athens.

1831:
I have no idea what to do with the great artist. Culture bomb Hati? Boost research towards Democracy? (Booya :| )

IT:
2 cannons withdraw, one dies.

1832:
Shuffle units.

1833:

Take Athens at the cost of two cannons. Misclick and give one Infantry an archer promotion. :weed:

1834:

Destroy Herakleia. Cyrus gets Rock'n Roll.

1835:

Cyrus is up to 7 pieces!

1837:

We learn Biology. Hati is willing to give us Astronomy for it. Booya. Set research on Medicine. Not that the whole tech trading thing is working very well right now.

1839:

Take Sparta losing 3 cannons. Damn hill cities. Hati's infantry is around Alex's last city.

1841:

We come third in the must powerful rating. Behind Cyrus and Rosi.
I'd probably culture bomb Hati with the Great Artist. Can't see much other use for it.
Most of my production was geared towards cannons and infantry, so we have a few of those by now.
Alex should vanish next turn.

From where are we going to attack Cyrus? He's got plenty of gear in Tiflis.

agree, that we need to attack Cyrus next, he is up eventually finishing the space ship...
It will be a bloody war and if we could draw America or Egypt in, it would at least ease the pain
