i agree that Glib is not a must. but i think we can further head for MT, until we have an idea if we have a chance to grab it or not. with monarch difficulty, there's a good chance we can take and hold the carthagien towns (should be a priority imo, to make their towns more managable and eliminate flip risk). Glib still would save us a ton of gold, maybe hittite capitol is within reach.

The Great Library wouldn't save us a ton of money any longer as the AI has got no tech lead over us any longer. I don't think we want to wait until they turtle their way up.

i still think MT would help us more then astronomy or magnetism. we'll have to research it anyway, if we do it first there's a chance we'll get some freebies from GLib. but if we're stuck without caravels, going for astronomy makes sense.

A steady stream of galleys across that strait could transfer lots of troops without getting Astronomy. I think we could win this with cavalry, so I'd rather burn toward MT and sort of shoot for the GLib. Not hold back our science in any way, and if we get Education before the GLib, fine. If we get any freebies it's nice, but if we don't, oh well. Our cavs will still be ravaging our enemies....

If the team thinks, we should avoid education and had straight for MT, then I don't mind to follow. Might be too late though, when Greebley has played his turns

Preturn: Change one built to a Harbor. Rouen is corrupt now but is likely not corrupt with FP and courthouse build.

Early: Our Galley gets attacked, but wins. Another sinks when I hit the wrong direction key.
We get Theology. We need Chem for Magnetism anyway so I go for that and let the next player decide. We can pick up Education now if we get the GLib, but only that. AI didn't have it 2 turns ago. Note that Chem puts us 2 tech from Cavalry but 4 from Magnetism, so I am thinking Cav first might be better just because it is quicker.

Mid: Watch some enemy boats sail about

Late: Get Chem. Set Tech to Metallurgy, but we can go for Education instead (no turns spent yet) if we wish.

Notes:
Only battle was Galley vs Galley. A stack of 2 Fortified Galleys and noone attacked.
Still a way from launching an attack - I mostly moved new troops to cover less defended towns. We can start building up Knights to send across.
No boats have dropped off troops yet
No picture because zero changes. No new towns and no fights.
I did play before ThERat's post but left tech options open anyway.

ok, let's go for MT first then. Makes sense.

as Elear is not free these days, el filet is up

got it

will try to play tonight, but doubt i'll be able to finish the turnset before the weekend. if somebody wants to swap to keep this one going, go ahead.

Take your time, this thing has moved pretty fast so far, a 2 day turn-set won't kill it. I think we're in the pre-attack doldrums, just build and prepare, so it's not rocket science, and also, no one is on the edge of their seat waiting too play. Oh, and I like MT as our next tech. Once we get cavalry, this thing's in the bag.

Pre:
10 units over support limit, but we don't have a real invasion force.
only 3 galleys, one of them on an oceant tile?
some galleys on their way, switch for a few more

Early:
Aztecs build SC
Amercians builds Cop

some landings, AC among others

Middle:
Metallurgy->MT

Late:
Aztecs start Magellan

Notes for next player:
Kadesh seems to be a good starting point for invasion of the mainland. hill and salt next to it.
spat out pikes before dijon expanded for salt.
i think our invasion force is strong enough to take the carthgian island, but far from ready for mainland.
landings only around tours until now. the army could take good care of it, but the knight i just lost agains a landed MI should be replaced to be save.
Kyoto needs workers, the two i sent are almost there.

Future plan:
invasion of island should be startet by next player.
saving money for our army and getting GLib is still an option, but i'm not sure it's worth the delay to reserch MA-techs.
do we change gov? never played fascism, so it would have a certain appeal. but i doubt changing gov will be necessery, once we establish a foothold on the other continent.
unless we go for communism, a detour for sanitation (after rails off course) might be a good idea. without the option to found new cities, the upkeep of metros would help us.

May I please play today en lieu of Overseer? Let me know. This is my only true free day at the moment :) Sorry for cutting in here :mischief:

edit: If not, I can play next Saturday/Sunday probably -- wherever that puts me in the roster.

Please do play, Elear, I am having issues with the game crashing. I'm probably going to have to back up my saves and reinstall. I keep getting CTD's when cllicking on a scientist. Makes MM'ing risky business. I hope the having to reload doesn't disqualify my COTM-45 submission.

lurker's comment: Overseer, did you recently try to install a pop-heads mod? I had a similar problem (CTD when clicking a scientist) when I first tried that...turns out I had replaced the wrong popheads file, so the game didn't have graphics for cops or civil engineers anymore!

Yes, that is exactly what happened. I did do a full re-install, and it's running like a top. I guess mods truly are a "use at your own discretion" thing. I still have to re-add the files to allow playing the SGOTM, but I'm going to be really shy of any other mods for some time.

Thank you, I hope you will not be dissapointed.
