Rat27 - AWM OBC as Persia

Well I didn't keep an exact turn log, but here is the general recap:

1) I sunk boats off the coast using a catapult stack+galley combination while I was waiting to invade the island. (turns 2 to 3)

2) I rushed a few boats because we needed more. (turn 2)

3) I loaded 4 galleys with 10 units: 7 knights, a musket, and two pikemen. Contrary to my usual theory, I left behind any artillery in the first round (turn 4).

4) I got Military Tradition and shut down research. This is one of my favorite strategies. Shut down research when you can, that is. Now with cavalry (and lots of gold to come), it should not be a problem to get the GL (which will be just one rank of cities in judging by the map) (turn 5).

5) Switch Orleans to Military Academy...really no question here, it is by far the best city. Satsuma and Persepolis are fair, but neither has over 20spt (turn 5).

6) I sent the boats and landed the initial force on the gold mountain east of Hubishna (there was a worker on the mountain E of Hubishna, and somehow my musket captured the worker by AMPHIB...I am guessing an old side effect from cotm24. I reloaded to earlier in the turn and switched invasion to the gold mountain: this weird amphib glitch was definitely not right and I was not going to take advantage. I loaded a 6th galley with a pikeman and knight (turn 5).

7) The 6th galley arrived and landed its troops, and the other 5 came back and picked up what they could. The invasion force progressed east towards Hubishna (turn 6).

8) The galleys continued working.

9) Hubishna, ridiculous luck here: lose 5 knights and 2 pikemen trying to take the city and somehow do not, leaving a redlined musket (turn 7).

10) Try to take Hubishna again. The Knights I use retreat or die against the sole eMusket remaining. It's like the Alamo (turn 8). This is why you must bring artillery on every invasion every time on every level in every scenario.

11) With the stack of catapults, my sole cavalry blows the eMusket away. This is why you must bring artillery on every invasion every time on every level in every scenario. I capture Hubishna (turn 9).

12) I move into position to take another city (turn 10).

For next player: We beat all the landing troops. They are hardly a threat. The current homeland defense force is perfect as is. We are starting to get some cavalry. Finish taking the enemy island. We have gold. Buy cavalry.

All technical issues ironed out, AFAIK. Downloaded the save, and I will play tonight. Looks like COTM-45 is back burnered for awhile, I'm up in SGFN-04 too. Any advice, strategy or other information should be posted now.

No glitch; Workers are vulnerable to such an amphibious attack in Conquests.
 
Yes, I just did that in a game recently. Will the AI ever do that? I have been using slave workers as living barriers to AI landings, and they never even try landings in that situation. Good thing I don't ever do multiplayer....
 
I have finished my turns. All went fine, I had a 90% kill ratio. I think we are nearly ready to invade the enemy mainland, as we are strong vs Hittites and America and average vs the Aztecs. I do think we need some more muskets to hold our conquests, as the Aztecs do have AC's. I upgraded most of our horses and knights, so we have more cavalry. Here is my turn-log:

this is a little tricky

take out another 5 units, but my aim is now to survive until we landed our army next turn and then abandon that city

evacuate our 3 cannons and an elite immortal, land army and fill with 2 more cavalry
abandon Kadesh, we now need to find Hattusas

7.1335AD
move south in Hittite territory looking for Hattusas

IT Aztecs roam around and it looks as if they dropped another settler pair way south

8. 1340AD
our cav runs into settler pair plus knight...this could spell trouble

IT the cav gets killed by a knight after it defeated a mace...we have no defense way south

9. 1345AD
rush barracks in Cumae so we can upgrade the musket and get some units there
be prepared to sacrifice a cav that runs onto a mountain and it actually sport Hattusas :dance:
rush another army for 900 gold to make some attack force possible

IT we finish the pentagon

10. 1350AD
deal with 4 units on the Island, no leader
the first of the Aztecs cities has grown to size 2, take out 1 units, but there are still some enemies left

fill army with 4th cavalry. I leave the units alone and leave it to Greebley to decide how to proceed with the attack
maybe wait for the other army and pillaging roads first?
or maybe not attacking at all and waiting for th AI to hit the IA?

Remember, next turn we should be able to capture the first tundra city and gain access to the other city way south. This is actually quite convenient.

1380 AD: Land a bit Early on a Mountain, because I am worried an attack might take out a Galley with an Army.
Other Army moves next to it, Razing the city of Aleppo.

IBT: A now empty galley is sunk by a caravel.

1385 AD: Armies built we now have 3 bound to that continent (4 units each). One already there is healing after razing the city last turn.
Galleys are fleeing home to avoid death.

IBT: Landing near Oea.

1390 AD: Lose Cav near Oea but kill landing. Kill first 2 muskets in Hattusas.


1395 AD: Capture Hattusas with GLib and Sun Tzu.

IBT: Get all Required techs of the Middle Ages except Banking. Get Navigation and Republic as optional techs from the GLib.

1400 AD: Capture Harran.

Notes:
Banking in 4 and then we get our free tech which could be Steam if we are lucky.
I suspect with 3 Armies and better ships we will start making real progress. Probably won't get to play again unless there are skips.
I forgot to deal with a Longbow south in the Tundra of our own island. Wake up the Cav (or Army) to kill it.
We can start sending our other Armies across now.

i should have just taken the save yesterday, couldn't quite finish today and probably won't be tomorrow either. so i posted my half turnset and let you guys finish this one off.

Notes:
to start another front at emar wasn't the best move, going north an keep the continent on one frontline would probably have been better. but our armies are doing very well, so there shoudn't be problems for the next player.
we should take out the salt in between tarsus and emer. maybe it's the only one the aztecs have.
hattusha has at least one regular and one injured vet musket.
left one spot in emer army open for leaderpopping elite. it's located in emer afaik.

I didn't see anything about how close we are to the Domination limit, so I'm not sure if I'll finish the game or Rat and Greeb will get another turn. Hopefully everything clears up for Greeb and he can resume play. I think our momentum will carry us for awhile, and that we are close to finished with the Aztec mainland. Which means America may be on another continent sized island. Another case of marooned 4 unit armies. So we need to build more. I think finish electricity and go for industrialization so we can get a factory built in Orleans. An army every 8-10 turns would be nice.

Nevertheless there is a 3 cav army on the smaller Island to sail over to other Aztec land next turn
