Rate My Possible Buy

Now I want to be able to have a good gaming PC, so I can play the next generation games and current generation games at a good quaility.

Is my card really that bad that I need to upgrade? It is only about a year old and did help greatly improve performance of games like Command and Conquer Generals. I just thought this card was good enough and it was the rest of my system dragging it down. As this computer is about 5 years old. Windows Me. Pentium III 850 MHz, 256 Ram, 80 Gig HD.

Geez thats old. Windows ME? PCIe is from what I understand better and a little bit faster then AGP.

Yeah I know its pretty old. I think there is a good reason why Microsoft only had ME on the market for a little while. Anyway is there a motherboard I could get that would use my current video card, but have the PCI Express to leave my upgrade options open down the line.

The only one that has a AGP slot and a PCIe slot has a CPU socket A

I think I am going to pay the extra money. It'll make the computer not age out as quickly.

I could direct you to here: http://www.dfi.com.tw/Press/awards_...TYPE=US&ARCHIVED_FLAG=N&INDEX_TYPE=MB&SITE=NA

All of the Lanparty NF4 boards are exactly the same, exept the cheaper models have some features not enabled. (notably SLI, and the extra 4 sata ports) My $120 was moddable to support SLI in about 5 minutes, including the time it took to scrape off the thermal goop on the chipset heatsink and replace it with AS5. The Foxconn board is good, but for *overclockers*, the DFI boards are unmatched.

CIVPhilzilla: I would stick with the 3000+... the extra $40 could be better spent somewhere else, IMO. If you want to ensure a long life for your computer, you could always buy an upgrade cpu later, the S939 line should be around for quite some time in the future.

I don't think CIVPhilzilla is going to care to much about overclocking. ;)

Do you plan to watch DVDs on your computer? If so I don't see that drive coming with any software to watch(PowerDVD).

Found another flash with 4X memory and only a little more than double the cost.

I don't really need my computer to watch DVDs, I just want the dvd drive so I can play some of the newer games that are on DVDs instead of CDs. For watching them I'll stick with the 52 inch flatscreen we have set up in our basement. ;)

I'd make some comment about my monitor's resolution being better, but with that video card it won't really matter... sorry. ;)

Just couldn't resist, could you?
