This is the most recent version of the Constitution - thanks to YossarianLives! - and is up for ratification.

Governance:
The Leader is in charge. His duty is to organize decisions and keep things moving. The Leader decides when a team vote must be taken, and suggests topics that need to be discussed. The Leader always acts as the tie-breaker, and has the ability to over-rule the results of a vote if he decides it is in the best interest of the team.

The Second in Command is the Leader’s chief lieutenant. He helps with leader chores, and is responsible for the organization of votes. The Second in Command also helps to keep things moving.

The Chief Diplomat is responsible for dealing with other empires. The Chief Diplomat is responsible for appointing ambassadors, organizing our foreign policy, and keeping track of alliances and threats. If an appointed ambassador is not maintaining communications with other teams in a timely manner, it is the Chief Diplomat’s responsibility to step in.

The Elector-General has the singular power to oversee elections. Any team member can message this official, privately or publicly, to request an election, which he will then call without mention of requester(s). The Elector-General may not run in or be elected to any other posts.

The Leader or Second in Command may create additional posts or positions, and determine whether these positions will be appointed or voted upon.

Elections:
Elections shall be conducted by the Electoral-General, following a private or public request by any team member.

All candidates for any positions must be nominated or submit their candidacy before the election begins. The Elector-General shall create a poll, and each team member may cast one vote per position. Elections will be private and will run for a time period determined by the Elector-General. The candidate who wins the most votes shall occupy the position.

In event of a tie for Second in Command or Chief Diplomat, the newly-elected Leader will determine the winner. In the event of a tie for the Leader position, tied candidates will determine to either rule jointly as co-Leaders, or a second vote shall be called, featuring only the tied candidates. If that vote also produces a tie, the outgoing Leader shall select his replacement from the tied candidates.

A turn which is played during an election shall be the responsibility of the outgoing officials.

There is no limit on how many posts a person may run for or hold, except for the Elector-General.

All Turn Players must be approved by a simple Yes or No vote. The approved Turnplayers must determine amongst themselves who will play the upcoming turns. The Leader and Second in Command automatically have approval to be a Turn Player.

Should it become official, we will hold the Elector-General election immediately. The other posts are too recently filled to warrant another election. All elections will synchronize for the following cycle.

EDIT: Fixed errors as pointed out by grant2004.

I assume the part of the second in command being responsible for votes and elections will be removed, and that the only reason it's still there is because it was forgotten. :)

Yeah, I simply overlooked it. I think this change is uncontroversial enough (since we just gave those responsibilities to the new Elector-General position), that we should just consider that line removed from the official version.

Agreed! :)

Move my "reservations" vote to a full yes. I read through it quickly and thought private elections wasn't mentioned, then lo and behold I see it smack dab in there.

Yes, with reservations against the two places where 2nd in command is stated to have responsibility for elections, which we're discussing editing out.

Never mind

That's what the discussion thread is for. The polling thread is for people to record their vote without fear of reprisals. A decision doesn't need to be unanimous to achieve consensus.

I just think the whole elections concept is a waste of time at best, and very divisive and damaging to the team at worst. I'd rather just focus on the game. That said, I'm fine with elections if you guys want them - just as long as it doesn't interfere with our ability to play the game as best as we can.

Yeah, much votes and elections can be a lot of slow bureaucracy, bur we still need to have a way of deciding controversial things. We have many people on the team with many and different ideas on lot of the issues. So we still need a way to determine which "politician" the team believes their way of thinking most.

Well, it's been over a week that this poll has been up, so I think we can consider this version of the Constitution as ratified and in effect, right?

Please note that I removed the two areas where it was still saying that the Second-In-Command had any polling responsibilities.

The next step is to vote for Elector-General, right? If they are interested in the position, I nominate talonschild, Aivoturso and Arkipeller for this.

Yeah, and we need urgently new votes. Our Prime-minister disappeared - havent seen Dave posting in here for like weeks.

Yes, and it is a pity. We could just promote his deputy for the duration... yes, you, 2metra. We don't need a new Chief Diplomat yet. Else we could get to an early election cycle.

I accept the nomination, incidentally.

Actually, we should probably revise in something about the second in command taking over the responsibilities of the first until a vote is called, in case of absence.
