RBC - 14D Conquistadores!

Sorry about that. The curse of skimming.

IBT: Elizabeth requests an audience and then suggests we fork over Metallurgy. Not a chance. San Miguel: Worker->Temple.

Turn 6 (1556 AD): Let’s park some Frigates up near England. Maybe we can get them to declare on us. Notice that a Swiss Pikeman is the top unit defending Bristol.

IBT: Inca have started the Temple of Kukulcan.

Turn 7 (1557 AD): Salamanca: Pikeman->Temple. Santo Domingo: Worker->Temple. Return two treasures! See a Musketman guarding London. Block Buffalo, NY area with a Longbowman to stop the English from sending Settlers through. Almost have a complete road from that Buffalo region all the way down to Venezuela. Only missing three tiles in Louisiana area. We have harbors north and south of the break, so all cities in the New World are getting 2 luxuries. Can set them all up to grow now.

Turn 8 (1558 AD): We learn Mining! Piracy is next. Copan: Worker->Gold Mine. Switch Santo Domingo to Gem Mine. Tikal & Yaxchilan to Gold Mine. Hurry another Harbor on Cuba.

We can get Professional Armies, 34 gpt, 60 gold and WM from Netherlands for Mining. I’m going to pass for now and keep our monopoly on Mining. It will slow up treasure production from everyone else.

Turn 9 (1559 AD): Granada: Frigate->Frigate. Tobacco produced in San Miguel (New York City area). Treasure buildings starting to complete in New World.

Turn 10 (1560 AD): Leave this turn for Merepatra.

NOTES:
1) There is a treasure waiting to ship to Spain in Tortuga.
2) Once the treasure gold starts flowing, don’t forget you can upgrade Explorers to Conquistadors. You’ll need 3 or 4 Carracks to transport the Armada of MDI I’ve created to invade England. We’re up to 5 Frigates and I am building more in most ports in Spain.
3) I just turned research down from 100%. Didn’t want you to get bankrupt by mistake. But I’ve been trying to keep it at 100% and trade maps and cash in treasure to make up the difference. Getting harder to do that now with so much stuff to maintain.
4) You still are exporting Horses to France and Wine to England. Both deals predate my reign, so they will expire while Mere is in charge. Don’t renew them – at least not the one with England. We want to conquer that silly island soon!

Serious treasure production should start soon. But let’s have fun with England and not cash so many in that we are a threat to win any time soon. I want to see if the Spanish Armada can work!

Charles V now goes into retirement at a monastery in Spain. Leaving the reigns in the competent hands of my successor. It’s tiring running a global empire!

Due to a power failure I lost my detailed notes (I should know to save them often!) so this is just a brief overview of what were a fairly quiet 10 turns anyway.

At the start I checked the wine deal with England and realised it wasn't going to expire until the end of my turns. I didn't want to attack them while it was going, and looking at the number of Frigates they had coming and going we would have lost a sea battle at that point anyway.

I spent the first years returning as many treasures as I could as we really needed the money for research and also to upgrade our Explorers. Other than that I was building treasure buildings in our colonies while trying to build a larger navy and military.

In 1565 I sold Mining to The Netherlands for Professional Armies 70 gold, World Map and 53gpt. I decided against selling to those Protestant English and France and Portugal had nothing to offer.

Early on I had to put research expenditure back down as we ran out of money but eventually could put it up and we finished researching Piracy in 1569. In 1569 the Colonial Capital was also finished in Tortuga. I started researching Ship Building last turn and we have 5 treasures on their way home and a few more in cities to be picked up.

The main decision now is if when we should attack the English. They still seem to have more Frigates than us, though according to our Military Advisor we have a strong military compared to them. They also now know Piracy so I presume we will start seeing Man-O-Wars soon.

Who wants to go next and take on Elizabeth? Hotrod, romeo?

I can't take it until Wed. If Hotrod can take it, he can have it.
One trick that works well is to investigate enemy cities before declaring, and trying to catch as many ships in port as possible.
If no ships are in port, take as many cities as possible such that you have 3 land units defending (health doesn't matter), and move all your ships to port so his frigates are worthless. We would want to hit the English before they get many MoW's or even sea dogs. That would mean that the attack should start ASAP.
I have taken out England as Spain before, but that was on Monarch, but the only difference here is that each city will still have 2-3 units, but London will probably have 6-8 instead of 4-5.
France might be a good ally in this as well as the Inca.

I've got it and should have time tonight and will post something for Romeo to pickup on Wednesday.

Hotrod

BUMP. I need a file in the next hour or two or it will not get touched until Friday.

Romeo- I was unable to play last night as I had hoped.

If you can play tonight feel free to take it. I will follow.

Hotrod

IHT: Gather forces near spain. Try to assemble an offense. Set builds to Military. Cancel deal with English.
IBT: Ships move.
Turn 1: Align troops. Sell granary in size 12 seville. Sell granary in size 6 island. Return a treasure and crank up research.
IBT: Ships move.
Turn 2: Return 2 treasures, upgrade explorers. 4 carracks are ready for the assualt.
IBT: More ships
Turn 3: Elizabeth will not give us fortification. I get an allaince with the French getting fortification, 16 gold and WM and giving sugar and Pro armies. Portugal gets Pro armies for an alliance, 44 gold and WM. Inca get an embassy. They are making 15 cpt, they must have sold a ball court. They will get the temple of the sun in 11. Inca join for free. Assualt Plymouth, lose 2 MDI kill 2 swiss and a musket and get seven resistors. conqs autoraze Annapolis. Return 3 treasures.
IBT: English lose 2 frigates, french lose 1.
Turn 4: Resistance in Plymouth is over. Attacking london, lose 3 MDI, kill 4 swiss, musket, LB, frigate and Settler. We get Magellans.
IBT: We trade frigates with the English.
turn 5: resistance in london ends. At Bristol we lose 3 MDI kill 2 swiss and 2 musket. We own luthers 95 thesis, but cna't even see it as we are not a Protestant Government. :mischief:
IBT: French assualt York for us leaving 1 2hp musket. :p
Turn 6: Use a privateer to sink a portugese carrack. Without saltpeter all they can build is carracks. ;) Capture York no losses. Capture Dublin no losses.
IBT: English lose Sea dog, French lose frigate.
Turn 7: Move to new world. Lose a privateer. Shift new world builds to infrastructure.
IBT: Privateer (French) Sinks dutch frigate, spawned new one which loses to our carrack. French take Jamestown. Inca take/raze SA English city. (Wasn't paying enough attention)
Turn 8: Sink portugese carrack, autoraze baltimore losing a conq.
IBT: Lose a privateer.
Turn 9: Lots of treaures, culture expansions and a free frigate. Free frigate proves that it is worth what we paid for it as it loses to a French Privateer and spawns a new privateer.
IBT: Yorktown under french Seige.
Turn 10: Nothing moved.

HotRod can win this by treasure, we have 15 unattached and more than that attached to units. Or he can go on an attacking rampage, trying to decimate our less prepared neighbors.

I want to thank Gobi for letting me play this. I really enjoy amphibious assualts, and this scenario has the most/best of them. That and I finally got to use the Conquistador, a unit I had very little use for, but have come to respect. I really like the balance in this scenario, as nearly everyone can win it.

Great job Romeo. How does it feel to be the man who got the Spanish Armada to actually conquer England???

So what do you guys think. Should we try to fully complete the Conquistador approach and take out the Incas now?

Gobi - You can go right ahead and grab the game. I will be unable to play until sunday and had very little to do with your success this game. Take it to the victory !

Hotrod

OK. Thanks for letting me know, HotRod. I'll get to it this evening. I think I might take a few whacks at the Inca :hammer:

I would encourage taking a few whacks at the English and Inca as well as Portugese Africa. Just for fun, I would milk this game badly. (Wait till the last turn and turn in over 100 treasures for a hugely padded score). Thats just my 2 cents. That would also allow us to wipe off the English, Inca, and Portugese

Turn 1 (1580 AD). Turn down science; Ship Building in 4 turns not 3. Want money to rush some military police units. Lots of resistors still in England. Send MDI and Conquistadors toward Inca. Just two treasures heading home for now.

IBT: Watch French take Yorktown (English possession in Canada). Lose a Carrack with 2 MDI and a Conquistador leaving England to a French pirate. Going to have to escort our ships better! Resistance in York ends. Inca complete Temple of the Moon and Temple of the Sun in the same turn!

Turn 2 (1581 AD). Attack English capital of Norfolk, repulsed for now, but only Pikemen there.

Turn 3 (1582 AD). Fleets of MDI (plus some Conquistadors by land) start to arrive on the northern outskirts of the Incan empire. Lose a Conquistador at Norfolk. I’m going to call off the attack there. Might even consider peace with the English.

Turn 4 (1583 AD). Return 2 treasures. We have 27725 VP, next is France with about 6000. Declare on Inca. Take the city of Ica near Ecuador to act as a naval base. Raze Vilcas (the next city down the west coast of S. America.) Also wipe out another city on the east coast; and have a colonist to build our own city there.

IBT: England and France sign a peace treaty. We lot ROP with Portugal expire. France must have returned a treasure. VP now nearing 7000.

Turn 5 (1584 AD). Ship Building completes. Time to start Counter Reformation! We take peace with the English for two cities in the Northwest. Destroy another Incan city on the Pacific coast.

IBT: Defeat two Incan attacks

Turn 5 (1585 AD). Take down another east coast Inca city. 28845 VP at turn’s end. 11 Inca cities left. Doubtful we can take them all the way down before the game ends.

IBT: Fleet carrying Pikemen to the New World (to pick up treasures) is sunk by a Privateer. Grrr! Notice the Inca are in Anarchy now. Are they converting out of Blood Cult to Christianity?

Turn 7 (1586 AD): The final Pacific-coast Inca city falls to us.

Turn 8 (1587 AD): 4 Treasures sail from Colombia to Spain. The Pacific Incan assault fleet is heading around South America through Tierra del Fuego.

Turn 9 (1588 AD): French are settling the Falklands with 3 Musketeers. There’s a joke in there somewhere, I think! 5 Treasures sail from Tortuga.

Turn 10 (1589 AD): 4 more treasures sail from the Caribbean.

IBT: Inca finish the Temple of Kukulcan. Still no one close to a cultural win though.

Summary: We’re at 29110. France is in second, barely over 7000. Plenty of treasures on the way home for a win. Chasing down the Inca further is a lot of work Mere. If you want to go for it, fine. But I’d say just finishing this one up works too.
