RBD13 SG - Cretan Army Variant

I agree with the map choice. I don't think that Charis invisioned that this would become the REX nightmare that it did when we started. With tanks the end will be sped up considerably, thank goodness. If Arathorn can't grab it before Wednesday, I will get it at that time. I think we only need one maybe two more turns each and we will be done. I do want to thank you for helping to finish this one Lee. I have a feeling that you are like me, you hate to see something go unfinished, no matter how painful it becomes.

 REX nightmare? I suspect that is a mm nightmare comment, though I never heard the REX comment before.

I agree the game is getting close. Thanks to the Aztecs, we can even clear more of our OWN continent up. I didn't do it, but we should start getting a trasnport fleet near there island. At some point shortly - we can simple play always war

I already started building a transport fleet off of the current island under attack, so that we are ready to head to the other island with Japan.

The tanks are helping. With cavalry I feel I HAVE to get to all 1 hp defenders and under size 6. With tanks I hit a city stronger then that. I suspect the next person may have to rush some settlers :crazyeye:. Our cash flow helped me rush enough infantry to finally safeguard our coastal cities.

Yes, meldor, you are right - I generally hate to see these games go unfinished. How would a new player feels if his first game gets abandonded? It lowers our chance of him signing up for a second game.

This is one of the reasons I am such a nut in the LK series with enforcing the deadlines. Nothing causes lack of interest faster than no posts for 5+ days.

You need to look back at our history.....since we first went to war with England early on we have never had peace....this has been an always war with no culture building thrown in on the side. I think the lack of culture must be factored in as to how weak the AI thinks a Civ is. Generally that would be a good rule of thumb....except for the Cretans!

No way I can play before Wednesday. Have fun with it, Meldor.

Lee, kudos for going through the ~60 minutes to set the cities straight. I just let 'em go, because the core will win the game and let the outskirts suffer.... Too much time for too little benefit, IMO. I mean, the game is won and just doesn't realize it yet.

Arathorn

Got it.....

I agree with Arathorn, I stopped worring about it when a turn became 1+ hours. No sense in it other than to make sure that plenty of settlers are in the pipe.

1758 AD (Pre-turn) It takes me fifteen minutes just to look around and scope out the military side. I don't even bother to worry about the cities. I won't bother to list interturn bulds. I do look on in amusement as lots of Japaneese ironclads with one hp each run for home like a school of mullet.
I) We finish Intellegance Agency.
1760 AD
Raze New Kania

1762 AD
Tula is razed and our continent is frree of Aztec cities.
Raze Kyoto and get 11 stinking workers, including 1 german and one Indian worker.

1764 AD
Raze Nagoya
Land troops on second island

1766 AD
Raze first city on second island. Didn't write name down in time. Settler founds first city there, rush an airport.
Londinium razed, 4 Japaneese ironclads sink in port.

1768 AD
Osaka falls
Another Japaneese city on the coast falls.
Sink two more Japneese ironclads.

1770 AD
Hakodate is razed, oh joy we get three more workers.
We land 7 tanks and a settler on the Aztec island.
The Aztecs attack the tanks with 7 archers and 3 Knights. We lose one tank to an archer.

1772 AD
Shimonoseki razed.
Izumo is razed.

1774 AD
Ise is razed.
Fukushima is razed and the smaller of the islands is cleared. They also had three ironclads in port.
Nara is razed. The Japaneese are down to four cities.
The stinking Indians take Edo. I wanted to wait until I cleaned out the other two island cities. Luckly the capital went to the last little city on their main island.

1776 AD
Start war with India. Edo razed.
Toyama razed, two more Japaneese cities to go.
New Banaglore razed.
Raze Buhen.
Raze New Delhi
Raze New Lahore
Raze New Karachi
Raze Calixtlahuaca.
Raze Texcoco.
Raze Ganges
Raze Hippo Reguis

Arathron, please do us a favor and finish this one out. I don't think it will take more than ten turns. It is tanks against Cav and Inf. If you don't think there are ten full turns left at the end of your time just do it. However, you don't have to if you don't have time.

Save game 1778 AD

I'll try....I do have it and will hopefully get it done in the next few days/week or so. I'm pretty crimped on time, but with only a couple civs left, I can abandon thoughts of filling in all nooks and crannies and just go pell-mell war, which should save some time.

Will report when I'm done.

Arathorn

We are at war with the three remaining civs. Japan only has one city, with enough of our troops outside it to crush it 10 times over. We have a beachead on all but one remaining island with troops and a settle on the way there. Once the troops land, settle were you land (we are at war so culture borders don't matter). Rush the airport and pump troops. There are three Indian cities on our continent left. I even stopped back filling with cities...it took too much time. Just pull out the dozer and plow them under!!!!!!

The mighty Cretans have finished spreading their own unique version of "culture" to the masses in the world. PHEW!

I have no idea how many cities we had -- insanely high. Japan fell almost immediately, of course. The Aztecs were a royal PITA to take care of, because their land was horrible -- tundra (that they'd forested) and hills/mountains. Troops took FOREVER to move around that island. That was helpful in getting an army there, though, which meldor had failed to provide.

India was actually easier to eviscerate in a way, even though they had a ton more cities. Razed a couple core cities a turn and moved settlers into position to raze a few more the next turn. Missed one tiny Indian city on our home continent (grey and black look WAY too much alike for my eyes) until my next-to-last turn. That led me to go back to our roots. The final battle was won by....

Since I'd finished off the Aztecs earlier that turn, this led to (once I hit shift-enter to force end the turn and a few minutes passed....)

If you want to see it yourself, the save is available at

It was my highest scoring game ever. I think not allowing domination was one of the keys to the ultra-high score. I don't remember the exact number -- 8376 or so.

We finally had the top 5 cities. I wonder what determines "top" in a cultural tie. Age? Anyway, the final demographics looked like this....

What kills me is how small we were early -- our expansion was slow in a lot of ways. Even at the double-digit city mark, we were behind the AI (on Monarch, even). Check it out....

Twas mostly fun, but I'm glad it's over. I read an entire book waiting for the computer to do its stuff during the automatic part of the turn and between turns. I think I "only" took 8 turns to finish this off.

Arathorn

You went to the trouble to build a bull-rider army!

:rotfl:

Congrats - glad I help finished this monster off.
The RBD games look pretty much complete - or considered dead ;)

Well, the prime movers (Charis & Sirian) have mostly moved on to other stuff (e.g. RBCiv Epics), so it looks like the "most games in a series" mantle passes back to you, LK!

Love the Bull Rider army!!!!

Great job Arathorn. Sorry about the army on the Aztec Island, but I had just landed and cleared the beachead. Doesn't sound like it slowed you down too much!
