Okay, so playing as Ramesses on Continents, King, etc. Rome got wiped completely out of the game by Monty (who is/was between me and Rome), right? A while later, sensing military superiority, I steamrolled Monty until he only had three (3) cities left - all of them former Roman cities...
So he sues for peace and offers Antium and Cumae, but keeps Rome, and I accept. (For now ;) ) I liberate those cities back to the (extinct) Roman Empire, and Augie is back in the game.

Now for the question: If (when) I go after Rome to finish Monty off, if I liberate Rome, will that be seen as them getting their Capital "returned?" Like, for Domination Victory purposes? Not going for Domination this game, but am curious...

No, Rome will be yours. You can give the capital back tho - once you won Dom!:)

If you give back Rome (capital) to their rightful owner (Augustus) then that will count against domination victory, and you will have to conquer the city again.

However, a plus to liberating a civilzation is that they are behind in technology I believe.

Wait you can give cities back to civilizations that have been completely removed from the game?
How do you do that?

What diplomatic bonuses gives this and how long do they last?

Well I believe you get a vote for the UN for reviving a civ but that could be wrong. I almost never play diplo.

Yes you can, just did it. :crazyeye:

Still waiting to re-DOW Monty and test the Liberated Capital (Rome) part of it. As for any Diplo bonus, haven't really looked yet (not playing right now), but know that Augie is my bff now.

So how would you do that?

I remember playing a game where the Inca's killed of the Germans and in a later war I claimed some of the cities previously owned by Germany but I don't recall having different options other than the usual Annex, Puppet or Raze.

Let me put it unde the scope.

When Rome is annhilaited by montezuma, if you take over Rome which is now under the control of Aztecs, AT CAPTURE you will be given the ability to "Liberate the City". You cannot liberate cities that you own (so if you choose to Annex/Puppet Rome you can't Liberate the City anymore, and I think you will only be able to liberate it if you lose Rome again and re-take it again).

IF YOU liberate Rome, and resurrect Augustus
- You get an automatic vote from Augusts (he will choose to vote for you instead of himself)
HOWEVER - Now, I believe there's a little bit of a bug/glitch in which the "bonus" for liberating them is actually a negative modifier, and many people choose not to liberate Capitals because Augustus will hate you no matter what.

However, liberaiting City States is Extremely useful because you gain automatic 150 influence points, allied status, and a vote at the UN no matter what (if they hate you for example, I believe they will still end up voting for you).

1) Liberate a random Roman city.

2) Conquer the capital from Askia, and conquer Askia, and conquer everyone else's capitals.

3) Win Domination.

4) Click "One More Turn".

5) Go to trade screen with Augustus, click Rome and give it back to him for free.

6) Watch as he denounces you ten to twenty turns later.

Should they not become a vassal state to you? Stay friendly/allied to you with no negative modifiers such as warmonger? (Unless you attack them, their CS or their allies.)

They need to change that.

There's no vassals in here, just pointing that out. They should however remain very loyal/Friendly for you, maybe even an automatic DoF. But I think the devs mistyped and put the modifier into negative isntead of positive (or actually, I think the modifier cancels the warmonger modifier or something like that).

"You conquered our original capital!" +80
"You liberated our capital!" -80
There's your problem.

As long as you have Montys capitol, and Augustus does not have Rome, you will win a domination victory if you capture the capitols on the other continent.

You don't have to have all capitol cities to win domination, as long as the founder does not and you still have your then you win.

You do. They may be hostile, but they will always vote for the latest civ to liberate them in UN elections.

There was also a bug where revived civs are "emotionless", not sure if that still happens.

The liberated civs are NOT always hostile. I recently played as Hiawatha on king and was on "friendly" terms with Askia. Oda conquered him. Later, I liberated Askia from Oda. He came back as friendly and even offered a DOF. I think their attitude remains as it was before conquest, with no modifiers for liberation. (But as has been said, they will vote for you in the UN.)

Yeah, somebody actually posted that the "You conquered our Capital" is nullfied by the "You liberated us".
