Reagan on the dime?

I haven't noticed any ther threads about this, so I thought I'd bring it up: several Republican congressmen are proposing replacing the face of Franklin Roosevelt with that of Ronald Reagan on the dime. Sorry, but I don't have the article handy. It is true, however. My own rat fink Representative Mark Souder (R-IN) is one of the culprits responisble for this idiocy.

Staunch conservative as I am, I like the dime the way it is. I would rather see the face of someone who personifies generally positive leadershp in times of trouble on my money than someone who represents Hollywood, jelly beans and the Dick Tracy gangster Pruneface. No need to change it.

I truly fail to see the appeal of this phenomenon of Reagan-worship prevalent in some (nominally) conservative circles. I have been extremely displeased with the presidential leadership present throughout my lifetime by both parties, and these pathetic, snivelling sycophants have pulled the last straw for me. If such a measure were to pass, I would likely boycott dimes: refuse to accept them at my place of work, refuse to accept them as change, refuse to use them as a method of payment.

Is anyone else as disgusted by this as I am?

I like Reagan, I thought he was a good president. Sure, he had his faults, but what president hasn't? It would be quite an honor to him to remember him this way.

That being said, I like my money the way it is. Commemorate him, fine and dandy. But there are other ways to do it.

Granted, Reagan wasn't the worst we've had, but he was nowhere near being one of the best, certainly not deserving of money being minted with his likeness. He already has honors enough for one president, what with a major airport and an aircraft carrier named after him already while he is still living. Not to mentio any schools or other public buildings bearing his name.

get proper new bills, add new presidents there. JFK, maybe, too? Or, make new coins, or simply add variety - maybe...

but to throw Franklin out for that ****** actor - no, hell no!

This is one of those things that I hope will go away if I just ignore it.

Of course I thought the same thing about Shrub

Id rather see the monkey he co-starred with on the dime. FDR was the greatest president of the 20th century. Its too soon to put him on the currency, a little historical perspective is necessary for these things. Look at the complete turn around in perceptions of JFKs presidency in the 40 years since he died.

I don't think FDR was any great shakes, and I'd wager that Reagan would have done a much better job in that time and place, but I really don't see any reason to change it.

Unless they want to put Spider-Man or Keith Richards on it. You know, somebody cool.

One man who just didn't know when to retire. Lying hopelessly in bed 20 hours a day, with the nuclear suitcase armed is not what I would call responsible leadership.

I really doubt Reagan himself has anything to do with this...or anything else, for that matter.

The original intention of the faces on coins was to change them every 50 years or so. For some reason this hasn't been done for a long time. The Lincoln penny dates to 1909, with a new reverse in 1959 (50 years), the Jefferson nickel to 1938(due for change in 1988), Roosevelt dime 1946(also overdue), and Washington quarter to 1932, with the State Quarters the first change to that, aside from the Bi-Centennial

I hate $50 dollar bills. All bills should either go evenly into $20 or $20 should go evenly into them.

So, send me all your fifties, and I will see to it that they are destroyed.

They are going to put Clinton on the $11 bill.

I'd rather see Reagan on the $10 than the dime. At least then we'd have a President on every piece of the currency.

Alexander Hamilton is the person on the $10 currently.

Franklin was never president either. What about Susan B. Anthony or Sacagawea?

I've also seen a $3 bill with Clinton.

With Reagan on the dime, maybe kids will think twice about scoring a "dime bag." They should replace "In God we Trust" w/ "Just Say No," too...

and the Dick Tracy gangster Pruneface

I'm as disgusted as you are, but not the least bit surprised. Never underestimate the propagandistic power of the GOP. You should see this magazine they spread around: it's just a big Ronald Reagan worship-fest, with pious-looking photos of him on the cover surrounded by red, white, blue, and majestic fighter jets. It has no journalistic merit, express or implied, but because it sits next to U.S. News and World Report.......

...And I saw this on a UNIVERSITY bookstore's shelf. They ought to know better. Propaganda is propaganda, end of story.
