Realism Invictus

I'm not sure if it's a bug or a technical limitation, but the promotions from the Traditions and Doctrines disappear if you upgrade a unit even if it's the same type of unit that those promotions are supposed to apply to. Obviously they should go away if a unit changes from a melee to a gunpowder unit from upgrading.

I was also wondering if there were plans to introduce more religions into the game? The Olympic Pantheon is one I see that is usually included in many other mods as kind of a catch-all to cover both the Greek and Roman pantheon religions. And it wouldn't seem like a stretch to include since Zoroastrianism is in the game.
However, I realize that the pagan temples for each Civ are supposed to fill in this gap of the ancient religions also so there aren't like 20 religions or something crazy.

This is a bug we're aware of, and it is scheduled to be fixed for 3.1.

We will not be adding more religions, at least in a normal sense. We already have a system in place to represent ancient pagan beliefs.

Why IS Zoro in the game and not something like Pantheism? What IS the Zoro belief structure anyway?

Because it is kinda important for history of world religions, it was very prominent in Middle Eastern region for quite a while, and also because it is a dualistic religion. When we had to pick one to add after the removal of Confucianism, it was a very logical choice.

Couple more things I've encountered in play. Haven't read through the thread so apologies if they've been mentioned.

Elephants currently inflict Fear of Elephants on....other Elephants. Bit odd.

The new Recon upgrades are great, but there's a big, big gap in the actual units upgrading. Skirmisher to Explorer isn't so bad, but Explorer doesn't get an upgrade until Recon Car. Surely there must be something to fill this gap. Patrol Force maybe?

Now I'm not sure if this is a bug. Recent playtesting makes me think it is. Anyway, you can convert to a religion and still remain pagan. In fact it can be a very powerful strategy; you can get the happiness bonus from state religion AND pagan temples. What makes me think this is a bug is that if a state religion spreads to a city, it can't build pagan structures any more (Temples, Wonders). However existing structures work.

Speaking of Pagan stuff, if you build the Statue of Zeus, unless you've already built a ton of Pagan Temples, you can't build the Pantheon. This is because the free temples don't seem to count towards the amount needed for the Pantheon. This does somewhat diminish the value of staying Pagan.

I'd also just like to say that you guys have spoiled me. Since Total Realism made it's way onto my system I've tried out other mods, but they all feel lacking. They just don't have the complexity, the sheer scale, the total commitment to trying to emulate history that your team strives for with every release. I recently completed a playthrough as Mongolia under Ghengis and as I lead a terrifying horde of mounted warriors across the world to pillage and burn (finished with 67 cities razed) there was no point where I didn't feel like I really was leading the Mongolian people. What you have managed to create here is something so grand, so immense and so complex that you deserve far more praise than you have already recieved. But here's one bit more: thankyou, thankyou, and keep it up.

Noted. Funny "bug"...:p

Already added in our own version. There will be a "Light Infantry" new class.

Not a bug. Something strange for sure but it represents a fact that happened when Constantine the Great converted to Christianity.
You have the bonus of both the Pagan Temples and your State Religion, but you don't have the bonus of the Civic.

You have to make a choice.....

That's true. Staying Pagan should not be the best solution. That's why at one time or another you have to chose a State Religion.
Meanwhile, you can try to stay Pagan. With some civs, it can be very interesting (Rome, Greece, Egypt or Persia for example). In that case, you have to concentrate your time to build some very specific wonders (Stonehenge, Statue of Zeus, Colosseum, Pantheon) and a few Pagan Temples.

You should try. :p

Thanks. :D

That's the way we love playing Civ IV.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but the Apostolic Palace seems completely useless as it is: no resolutions ever come up, nor do temples or monasteries get any hammer bonus. As it is, it is just a hammer sink. ;)

An interesting insight I would like to share with those who experienced the crash at startup with a C++ error. It has been posted elsewhere, but I think some people here could find it useful.

If you get a C++ error when you try to start, you should download and install Visual C++ Express.

Please note that this still will not allow you to play the huge World Map without MAF on a 32-bit OS. But for that particular problem, a solution has finally been found.

I don't know if its just an overload of my system, but the gun of my third Turkish Ulufeci Sipahi to the right gets pink in action. Maybe a minor graphic bug?

I'd first like to say thank you for this mod. I was a huge fan of total realism, and tried out several others since bts came out, but they all felt empty. I have played three games on invictus now, and i've run into some problems.
My first game was on the world map. It worked well, but long between-turn waits made me abandon it and start a new one. This isn't a huge issue i have per se, as this happened with regular bts on the world map too. The game itself ran fine though until midevil era when i quit.

My second game I tried a random world generation standard world size. It ran great, and was running fast as well, until about mid-way through the classical era. Part way through a turn, the research bar disappeared, and the "classical era" text started blinking. Ending my turn, the sound promptly quit, and the game froze, and did not resume.

My third game i again tried a random world generation, standard size. Again, it ran great until about mid-way through thte classical era. The exact same thing happened in my second game. Both were also on 1.5x speed.

Its really a shame, as I was really enjoying the mod. Is there a fix or workaround? I'm going to try another game at the realistic speed to see if that is the problem, but i don't have much confidence. I have the 3.01 patch. My computer is only 1 year old, running windows 7, i3 core, 4gb RAM.

Yes, there is a fix. It happens only with that play speed. Either play on other speeds, or grab a file here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=10398826&postcount=473

With that fix you will even be able to continue old saves that crashed for you.

Continue to play my current game and love the unit promotions, I still believe its too easy to win wuth stacking of seige units, I think like most mods they are overpowered esp. bombard values are way too high and amount of units hit per volley are too high as well, imo. I know how to change those values myself though.

G'day Guys,

Nice Mod :goodjob:

Haven't Civ'ed for a while and your mods brings back good memories.
I am a little concerned about stretching my computer with the giant size map, I couldn't find a Huge size map for Realism Invictus anywhere.

If there is one out there, could someone point me in that direction please?

If there isn't, then I haven't wasted my time :crazyeye:

This one may still need a touch here or there for personal preferences. But everything seems to works nice

Cheers

In mods\realism invictus\assets\xml\units there are a few files to edit. I edited TR_siege(_civ4unitiinfos.xml), TR_Mounted_light, and TR_mounted. All of these units do collateral damage. I nerfed them all 20% - 50%. The play is much more stable with these changes, esp the cavalry ones.

Collateral damage and flanking only work when attacking, and with so many of these units and as potent as they are *any* defending stack quickly loses the abiltiy to put up any defense at all. Siege will usually take quite a few loses in the attack, but what is left over of the defenders will get slaughtered. Cavalry is worse since the withdrawl bonuses are so high, few will die in the attack, and if there isn't an immediate counter attack to beat on the withdrawn units, the attacker will suffer very few casualities.

With attacking casualites so low (little -WW), and then the +WW for capturing the city, the aggressor suffers very little war weariness, whereas the defender suffers much more WW (from losing the garrison and the city).

The result of this all seems to be that attacking is the way to go. With a sufficiently large army there is no way to stop you. The only thing that seems to stop the aggressive civs from winning a domination victory by the middle ages is city maintinence. After a certain point they will only raze. But they have to get really large before this happens, and if they get that big you've lost already anyway.

The result is that most civs still alive come the industrial age. I play on a huge map with 20 civs, and by the industial age 10-12 civs are still still alive. Which is much more interesting than having only 5 or 6.

In my current game I've gotten rid of all the horse resources. It's 1420 and I'm in contact with 16 civs, and only know of 1 dead one.

I'm trying your mod for the first tiem today. So far it's pretty cool. I spent a good while playing Rise of Mankind on my old computer but would always hit the MAF sooner or later. My new computer is pretty loaded, though. Anyway, like how you did things, like the idea of total realism, however.......
In the vein of total realism, and dealing with religions, why not make the appearance of a religion geographically sensative? That is, Judaism can only start in Judea, Buddhism in India, etc., especially as these different religions are regionally specific historically. The idea would be to basically mark a tile and when a given civilization gains control, it starts that religion. Naturally any random generated map is going to work differently, or classically, but since you have the world map so situated as to represent everything a little better, why not? It certainly would mix up the dynamics a good bit.
