[GS] Really disappointed that the Jersey system doesn't allow color-picking in single-player

A recent tweet from Ed stated: https://twitter.com/EdBeach23/status/1090681129068359680

and (2) I think I implied in a recent livestream that the jersey system could be used to handpick each leader's colors in single-player. Not true -- we have that working in multiplayer but haven't extended it to the single player setup yet.

I appreciate Ed clarifying but I'm pretty bummed. If this isn't implemented for SP, it will be a gigantic missed opportunity. The jersey system has so much potential on the basis of being able to pick your preferred color alone.

EDIT: In fairness, @Zaarin pointed out that Ed may be referring to not being able to pick OTHER civ's colors in single-player. While I would still like to be able to do that, it's much more important to me to be able to pick our own colors, so hopefully that's still the case :)

Why are so many people so interested in the jersey system? I'm amazed at how much people ask about it and how much the devs feel the need to talk about it. Why do ppl care so much?

What an odd question. Different people find different things enjoyable or important. Civ 6 is a hugely aesthetic experience for me so the more options I get for that, the better.

My interpretation of his tweet is that you can't choose other civs' jerseys in single player; I would hope he means you can still choose your civ's jersey.

Ohhh! Your interpretation makes perfect sense! I'm really hoping that's the case! While I'd love to be able to pick ANY civ's color, picking your own color is definitely more important.

Because we find some of the colors aesthetically pleasing. Like Phoenicia's colors yesterday. I like the pink color too, I know guys aren't supposed to like those kinds of colors, but I'm too old to care. I don't need to prove myself to anyone, I know what I am.

Wasn't there a civ game that allowed you to choose your color? Or am I mis remembering? Was it Civ2 where you were always white? My memory is fuzzy on that.

This was my interpretation as well, and I"m fine with that.

When they showed the livestream with Canada in their alternate pink, I liked that. Felt more unique than the bland White+Red that's their actual default.

The ability to fully control a custom palette via some color-picker device for the upcoming Jersey/System is indeed VERY important to me.
Otherwise, the old principles of static definitions (one color-set per Civ) would be preferable since having freedom over such key UI elements is the main idea as a design feature. NOT having (and still trusting Jersey decisions by other people) a solid picker defeats the purpose of even "Quadruple" choices.

Soooooo.. offering at least 256 colors (WebSafe would be plenty enough) to everyone is a must. Expand to custom becomes the cherry on a cake.

If it ain't technically possible (Materials, Texturing, etc) -- that's really too bad.. thus, i would already HATE anything stuck into an invariable Jersey limitation.

Makes it more fun to guess who you’re about to meet when you see some borders.

Before you always knew
See, now I don't like that at all. I like to know which colors belong to which specific Civs. So regardless of how the Jersey system is setup, one of the first things I'm going to look at doing is modding my chosen colors back in for all Civs.

One of the best aspects of the jersey system is presumably that icons will go back to not having their colors "baked in" (to borrow terminology from @thecrazyscotsman). For those who may not know - in Civ 4 (edit: thanks Josephias!) you could just change the RGB values and the icons would update as well - in Civ 6 til now the icons in the setup screen have their colors built in.

Hopefully we're back to the icons simply being alphas so complete color changes will be a snap!

Not really (at least not in Vanilla at least, or not for all the icons). Civ 4 was indeed that way, and I did a great deal of modding colors (and even icons themselves). I was coming from modding colors in civ-3 too. But for civ 5, it stopped me that while you could mod the color, the icons used in diplomacy and other screens were fixed color images, so you had either to repaint them or live with two different color sets in the same civ.

There went my hopes of switching Aztec and China's colors and any further try (maybe this was solved later though).

Oh, my mistake! Thank you for correcting me. I've edited my post.

So if you went in and modded your own customized colors for the city banner and border, then the icon would be mismatched on the leader screen (and I think the pause screen?).

I thought it was only the icons in the setup screen where the colors were "baked in". Just double-checked in case I'd overlooked something all this time and yeah it's only the initial setup screen. The loading, leader/diplomacy screen, & pause/menu screens all have my updated colors as the icons.

I could have sworn there was one more instance aside from the setup screen where they are baked in...Hmm. Thanks for verifying that the menu/pause screens aren't baked in. I've updated that post.

Because without the jersey system, the AI will perform the same as in R&F. The jersey system is critical.

If you are asking this question, you have not played a game were France and Greece (Pericles) were neighbours in the same continent. Or have not been involved in a war with Monty as ally and Chandy as enemy (or vice-versa). Or (easier but still annoying) tried to figure frontiers in a mini-map painted by Russia, Arabia and Kongo.

I have literally seen France, Pericles, and Mapuche all next to each on the same map with Scotland not far away.
