ok, no teabagging discussion in here, since that seems to be offensive, end of.

but still, i really dont want to be trolled by right wing people calling me a commie, knowing well what connotations that word has for them and how much they hate "commies".

so could you please ad "commie" to the list of political troll words?

You've been called a commie? Link?

As I (think) I said before, I don't think the word should necessarily be banned. If someone is using it for the sole purpose of personal attacks, insulting others, trolling, flaming, etc then yes he should and would get warned for it anyways. I don't see why you have to ban the word entirely, what if I needed to use it in a historical context for example? Or when joking about something in a Hearts of Iron II AAR?

If people are using the word "commie" as an insult / flame against you, then report it. If people are using commie as a short form of communist ("north korea is a commie country"), then that will be allowed.

it wouldnt just be the short form. it would imply that north korea is a totalitarian hellhole, which, frankly, would be trolling of north korea.

It appears that there has NOT been a spree of adding politics related words to the autocensor, I checked. Anyway, that's good, and again, for what's in worth in a second thread, I am still opposed to banning the use of more words, especially words being proposed for political reasons, not eg. some posters randomly swearing in a foreign language or something.

We should probably ban members of the group themselves, too, seeing as how they have also referred to themselves. Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc, also use the term on their broadcasts; we should probably ban references to those sites too, under the "two click" rule.

The word's entered public lexicon already...

agreed

It wouldn't imply anything. It would be a statement that North Korea is a communist country. You could argue that "juche" isn't true communism, but calling a communist country "communist" is hardly trolling.

Equating the legitimate government of North Korea to that wretched ideology which killed millions for mere thoughtcrimes, persecuted the church and fermented mass chaos throughout the world by sponsoring dozens upon dozens of "revolutions" is completely unfair and slanderous. In fact, I would say it is trolling of the North Korean peoples of the highest degree.

And "Well Polish is just Russian if it was spoken by ducks." is not unfair, slanderous and trolling of ducks?

Hardly, because ducks aren't important enough. Trolling only effects things that are important enough. The only use for ducks is to taste nice when I eat them.

You're confusing communism and Stalinism.

It's not calling it communist, it's calling it commie. In the UK, calling someone a Paki is extremely offensive (considered racism, would get you disciplined at work, etc), but calling someone Pakistani isn't. On the other hand, calling someone an Aussie isn't offensive in the slightest. As you can see, simply shortening a word can sometimes make it very offensive, and sometimes completely harmless. I know you live in Australia, and perhaps in Australia the word "Paki" or "commie" doesn't have the same connotations that it does in the UK or Austria, but certainly, calling, say, Poland communist -- or even mentioning that Poland has links or similarities with Russia at all! -- has elicited very negative and angry responses from Polish posters (similarly with other Eastern European countries).

In this case, then, given regional differences in how people respond to such words, don't you think it's one of those cases where "it's not what you meant, it's how other people take it" applies?

The odd thing is the we ony call those who are from Pakistan as Paki's not everyone from that area like you, so when we use that term we are not using it in an insult context, just shortening, since we Aussies are very slack and can't be bothered writing the whole words down, hence why we have Chrissy pressies (Christmas presents). That is why we call communists commies, so it is much easier to write down. It can be use as a insult, just like any thing can be done that way.

Umm.... calling Ainwood an "Aussie" may be an insult. He's on the eastern Islands. ;)
