I got a Wii for christmas, but having been a PC gamer all my life, I don't really know what Wii games are any good. So please, recommend me some games! Any genre, any style, just as long as they are good.

I think the ones everyone will at least say to get are Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Mario Kart Wii. After that the Super Mario Galaxy games, the Zelda games and the Metroid games, except Other M.

One game I did like that no one else did was Okami. It originally came out on the PlayStation 2, where no one bought it, then ported to the Wii, where no one bought it. Another game I played that I think no one else did was Anno: Create a New World. It plays almost exactly like Anno 1404, but done in a more cartoon like style.

Even the newest one that just came out?

Yes, it doesn't seem like Nintendo has learned from or even tried to improve upon many (if any) of their past mistakes. I've read many posts from people who, while they may or may not have enjoyed the game, still encountered excessively annoying characters, fewer dungeons, the motion controls are still gimmicky (seriously, by now Nintendo should be able to sue its own devices well), various issues with excessive text conversations that aren't skippable (such as having to sit through the same spiel every time you buy an item, that is just bad design), yet another borderline-useless and annoying companion/guide creature, very linear, very little variety in enemies, and the story is apparently even less original.

Nintendo seems to be half-stuck in its past glory and semi-isolationistic Japan that it doesn't even bother trying to make its games amazing since it knows it has a horde of rabid and fanatical fans who are so high on nostalgia they would buy anything Nintendo made no matter how bad it is. I tried playing TP sometime after it came out at a friends but got bored of it after a couple of hours, and I got bored of OoT after about the same time (although OoT has better controls). OoT may have been an amazing game when it came out, but it doesn't hold up well with modern games.

On the other hand, while I'm not interested in it myself, Monster Hunter Tri is apparently a very good Wii game although it can apparently get difficult at times. I often see Okami being highly recommended too and is probably worth checking out.

So Okami, Anno: Create a new world and Monster Hunter Tri are worth looking at then? Thank you, it might make my goal to find good games for the Wii much easier. More generally though is there any publisher/developer with a reputation for making good Wii games?

Re4 ?

I still play the Wii a bit---it's at my family's house when I visit for the holiday.
The best games are a mixed bag, since really the GameCube stuff with a aftermarket controller is sometimes the most fun for the money. For Wii only games, I'd say rent before you buy, and buy used, because sometimes the control schemes ruin an otherwise interesting premise.

My fave games currently:

SoulCalibur 2 (check out SC3 too though),
Viewtiful Joe 2 (check out 1 too),

There's some JRPG-style baseball game that I play that's pretty fun MLB allstars or something which has a JRPG-style design your own character mini-game, and then regular Wii baseball league/manager game with ok motion controls

I'm not really much of a Nintendo fan anymore, and I think Skyward Sword was a pretty good game with appealing content. Not the best Zelda out there (apparently I'm the only one who thinks Twilight Princess is that), but well worth the Wii.

The game I'm mainly playing on the Wii though is Monster Hunter Tri. If you like a challenge, get that game. If you don't like working for getting your equipment, don't get it. It's online multi-player is the best online experience you can get on the system, but if you don't have a proper internet connection to make it playable, it's perhaps not as much worth it.

These are what I recommend, especially the first. If you like sports games NBA 2K11 is ok. The MLB 2K games aren't as good, and you are better off getting them for a PC (there's really no My Player system, which sucks)

007: Nightfire for the Gamecube. Runs on the Wii. It's a pretty solid FPS with good graphics for its time.

I just bought DJ Hero II.... will let you know how that plays out!
