Red Alert 2

yeah but the Aegis Cruisers are about a million times better than SAM Sites because they can upgrade and if you're using them to defend your base they'll tend to be close enough to your base to get protection from land units and fortifications so it's all good :)

Story

- Allies won the last Red war. They put Yuri in the Psychic prison, but this was not the end of him. During Yuri's campaign in Ra3:TW Yuri's former followers help him escape his prison. In this campaign you are helping Yuri regain his former strength, and establish a nuclear missle silos base on the moon.
- Next in the timeline, the Soviet campaign starts. Yuri has many Soviet bases captured, and you start as the commander of the base, which is currently under attack and can be overrun any moment. During the Soviet campaign you will discover Yuri's true plan to build one single psychic device, called the 'psychic ripper' to take over the world. Yuri needed this Nuclear Missiles on the moon to protect it. Nobody knows what other devices Yuri may have built to make sure his Psychic Ripper is operational.
- And the last is the Allied campaign. It takes place at the same time the Soviet one does. The Allies first belive that they are betrayed by the Soviet Union, because one of the Soviet bases attacked them. But they will realise very soon, that it was Yuri, not Alexsander Romanov, who is the real foe. The base, which attacked Americans, was one of the many, captured and used by Yuri's forces. Yuri did a really good job putting his clone into the prison during his escape, so the Allies were unaware of his escape until now. Once Yuri manifests himself, and the Soviet forces destroy Allied superweapon research base, which was used to attack Soviet naval fleet due to thier 'betrayal', Allies join Soviet Union in the quest to prevent Yuri's world domination once again.

Note that they weren't able to remake the whole game for Zero Hour, for example Yuri mind control units kills the driver of the vehicle rather than actually mind controlling it (they're still a nuisence. It means you can't engage them except with robot tanks or aircrafts).

Well I never said they weren't good air defence but like the laser (?) tanks they had to be protected and placing them near a base wasn't enough! You needed Destroyers close by. And what about the Allied air defence on land or bases where you couldn't build them? I think the AFPs were also equal to the task and had multiple uses ;) .

actually i hope if a real red alert 3 is made the soviet won the war in yuri's revenge...

simply because if not they're 0 for 3

The Prism Tanks are so cool, they can destroy an entire base in a few minutes. That's why I always have 2 bases, if you fight the allies, you'll be attacked by the Prism Tanks, which isn't pleasant if they come in a large group.

That's right d.highland I did mean the Prism Tanks, but they are otherwise pretty weak and must not be left to fight for themselves...as attack and ranged weapons they are superb.
If you are opposing them they can easily be killed!
Ah well we can't have everything but that doesn't detract from the game's greatness :).

I liked Red Alert 2, but I disliked Yuries revenge. I don't know why, but I found that I had much more fun playing vanilla than Yuri.

Ah well Yuri IS a bit more difficult and frankly every game needs getting used to :)!

So...Vanilla ice cream?

what was the name of those........... was it Mirage Tanks? if you had a group of them hidden somewhere then they could cause alot of problems. especially if it was attacking a harvester. Once they got to max experience you've no chance unless you swarm it.

Yes, Mirage Tanks =)

They were always a pain when the AI decided to build them.

Need some shade ? :D

One thing I did was build about nine Prism Tanks, then Chronoshift them into the enemy's base (I worked out nine is the most you can fit in the radius).

yeah to me, the way to go is with the Soviets

Airships, Ships with missles, Conscript hordes....

frankly i'm such a soviet playing American for me is a death sentence

In vanilla version of Redalert 2, Soviet rules over allies.

But in Yuri's Revenge, Yuri rules over them both, Soviet is heavily weakened.

Strange, cause I find mind control units a bit useless. They're killed very easily (causing the units to go free) and they can only control one unit at a time, so to control enough to build a substantial force you need to build lots of them and it's a drain on resources. Yuri's other units are a bit weak they have no powerful units like Allied Prisms or Soviet Apocalypses. Personally I love the Soviet Siege Choppers in YR. They're nice compensation for the lost psychic units.
