Red Versus Blue

Most countries can find a few victories vs worthwhile foes since 1815 though. 1871 Prussia defeats them, WW1 They had alot of help and were still rated low by the Germans, 1940 oops, 1954 Vietnam oops.
That's actually hillarious considering how the English hasn't fought or won a war for themselves since the middle ages... ('Let English men fight English wars, it's about time they started, no?' — The Pouges.)

And as for fighting wars on the continent, Britain has never fought and won a war on its own possibly since Henry V. (Welsh troops.)

I'm really trying to find a war on the continent Britain didn't fight as part of a great coalition. Or as Talleyrand put it: "It's an excellent strategy. And very English."
(Maybe the war at sea against the Dutch in the 17th c. is an exception?)

Of course, it the same strategy is used by anyone but the English, then it's obviously a sign of weakness?:p:cool:

Without wanting to sound like a Brit boaster, the British won many battles around the world as the major contributor or instigator. Of course they employed allies or locals now and then, everyone does and did. There are very few battles which have been fought by an exclusive national force and if they have these are likely small scale little spats.

Hmmn good point. The English also had the English channel to hide behind. Do the French take the piss at Italian fighting prowess?

Why not? They're perhaps the only country with a worse record than them since 1815. And though the British haven't always fought exclusively be ourselves, we've still won some damn good victories by ourselves.

Not really.
There hasn't been much of French-Italian fighting since the war with Savoy in the early 18th c.
In the 19th (after Napoleon I, during Napoleon III) it was mostly France fighting alongside the Italian nationalists to boot the Austrians out.
WWI saw Italy as an ally and WWII is considered an atypical case.

But the mod will prolly call us back to order.

Well you have to be nice to the French. When was the last time they won a major battle vs a European power by themselves?

Well, we won Austerlitz, conquered most of Europe, reorganised the Holy Roman empire into Germany, fought the Marne, Ypres, and held the Chemin des Dames being almost bled to death, the French army sacrificed itself to defend Dunkerque while the British retreat took place, then we retook Normandy, liberated Paris, and went into Germany.

Before this thing turns out to be another French bashing thread, people must be aware that French people are participating to the comemoration of the battle of Trafalgar. I think it's pretty fair play from the French side, don't you think ?
Celebrations included the biggest display of naval power the world has ever seen, and probably ever will see, with something like 53 nations taking part. I think France had to be there ;)

No you reorganized the Holy roman Empire into the Confederation of the Rhine, Germany organized itself. (right after beating you in a war) But anyways did this already happen? If not is it going to be on TV, becuase I'd watch it if it was, old boats are pretty.
