Redcoat?

If I am playing Churchill, I am going to be b-lining to Redcoats at some point, then backfilling while they munch through my neighbours.... I also play on slower speeds, so the shelf-life of troops is a lot longer.

I play on epic speed, but I must admit that Assembly Line is always one of my favorite techs to research. I try to reach the Industrial Revolution as fast as possible because factories and power increase production by so much, and I am usually trying to get a Domination victory at that point. Plus the first one to Assembly Line can easily be the first one to Fascism and receive a free Great General.

Yeah, I play on Marathon mostly, which is exactly why Churchills 'Coats are great. I do the same thing you do, I b-line, then go back for some techs. All in all though, the Redcoats are really not the best if you're not using this strategy.

thats how you use redcoats

There's lots of civs that have multiple famous units, that would make a good UU. Just look at the french... they were known for their awesome medieval knights... both mounted and on foot (so that covers macemen and knights). They're famous for their crossbows, famous for their musketeers, famous for their foriegn legion... etc etc. Units like the cuirassier and grenadier have french names for a reason ;)

Redcoats, Longbows or Men-O-War would all be fine. I was expecting the Longbow anyway.

Wouldn't the Ironsidea tend to be absorbed by the Redcoats?

Yea the Redcoat in bts is not that powerful, before in vanilla they use to kick ass with 16 base strength, nothing could stop it till infantary, in warlords although nerfed, elizabeth had financel and philo, so you could make a hell of a hybrid ce/se economy then take the world with the damn riflemen, as the AI would take ages to catch you if you truely beelined, and well Churchill as a leader is just putting all your eggs in one basket really.. I in bts just try and get cr 3 maces through a war in the middle ages, and then upgrade them to redcoats after a beeline, and im able to take around 2 neighbours out in a standard map where we are equal on tech before everyone has machine guns, which mean i gotta sacrifce lots of cannons to kill, so then i just wait till tanks with a beeline, and take over the remaining world :D, the power of riflemen/redcoats really though is through upgrading a dozen or so cr3 maces, then mass drafting rifles to take out your enemies knights and maces, which you should be facing if you truely beelined, and your on par with the AI on research yield, its just on bts with Aggressive AI you get about 50-100 units thrown at you in the era of Riflemen, if they have not been to war with anyone for 50 turns, and depending on leader.. the catapult damage with reduce your riflemen down lots, hence why you need the mass drafting.

( Of course later I defected to the colonies, namely the U.S....but thats another story)

You pack up your exotic accent and charmingly wry humor and go back where you came from! There's too much competition for women over here as is without you stacking the deck in your favor! :crazyeye:

If im playing english, I build a super draft city and when I hit rifles, i draft redcoats out the wazoo. If you beeline, they last awhile
