To get it back OT (of sorts, this isn't a very easily discussed topic anyway), the point of the joke could probably be clarified by adding this joke as an explanation:
"You know you're a redneck if your family tree doesn't fork."
EDIT: Or you could be a Spanish Hapsburg, or really any mamber of a royal family or former royal family, but, again, that's off-topic.

...But if you think about it, "Oedipus" is the Latinized form of the name--note the use of "-us" instead of "-os."
