Adrenaline Vault has updated their release dates page once again. The Collectors Edition will come out 15 days earlier than the Standard Edition! Also notice that SimGolf is being postponed to December 1st; originally Firaxis planned to release it in October.

October 1st: Civilization III Collectors Edition
October 16th: Civilization III
December 1st: Sid Meir's Sim Golf

Is the collector's edition the limited edition we were talking about a few days ago? the one that comes in a tin with a special "making of civ 3 video"?

...The one that costs an extra 15 dollars?

yup, they are the same.

This question may not have an answer yet. I'm unsure about the manual specifics. Because the manual is listed with the "collectors edition" does that mean the regular edition will not have a manual?

The manual that came with Civ II was fine for me to learn, the rest comes with trial and error, etc. I realize that this is the third version of Civ and Firaxis has said they are taking the best of the previous versions and enhancing them, thus one would assume the learning curve may be faster. I would still like to know though what this culture aspect is about since it seems to have such an impact on the game. A manual of some sort sure would be nice.

Any toughts?

They better have a manual!!!!!No seruiosly i think they will every decent game has a manual. It would be a serious mess-up if they didnt have one.

I should have known better, guess I was confused about the "collectors edition" vs. the regular edition.

sounds like a big phat rip off to me!! and releasing it 15 days early?? what is with that?? .... i think that is to sell more copys of the game with extra crap that most of us wouldnt buy anyways .. but might if we r feeling desperate enough to buy it .... grrrr ... i though sid was above the marketing crap like that in more into making awesome games ... thou im assuming it is just infogames making that sort of dissesion and giving sid a bad name

... oh well ... i think the game will be good ... but i dont like marketing like that .... and i for one will not be buying this version of the game!!

Regarding ordering on line Spycatcher, there was a post a few weeks ago. I forget now where it was the link went. But I recall that both the limited edition and the regular edition were there to order. It might have been E-bay.

I think though that as we get closer to release date you will be able to locate purchase info over the web. Also Firaxis is hyping their "official" web site, making comments that their site will have info about release among other things. Perhaps in a few weeks when the site goes public we'll see if you can order from there.

On a side note I have waited this long for Civ III I can wait two more weeks to buy the game. A video about the making of the game and a tin box is not enough for me to spend more money. Having said that, as more info becomes available as to what all is in the collectors edition I could still be persuaded to change my mind

So what is 'limited' in the Collectors Edition?

It'like the strategy book, a collectors edition tin, a "how we made it cd" ,and maybe something else i dont know

I'm a little wary of shelling out an extra $15 for a behind-the-scenes CD and a poster. Interesting for sure, but all I need is the game CD, a decent manual and the box they came in. I'm all for giving Sid & crew their due ($), but marketing gimmicks like "Collectors' Editions", etc. really p*ss me off.

I've never had as much fun on a game as I've had with Civ II, and I will be among the first in line when Civ III comes out - but give us a break. I feel like we're being milked. Grrrrrrrrr.

In a day and age where you can get all your games for free, on their release date over the net. I'll pay for the special edition, and the tin too! As long as that man keeps his nose to the monitor, I'll dish out the extra bills... I'd probably dish out more.

Oh! I'll get it in this crummy little town too..... To misquote some one who posted earlier. A fellow Canadian by the looks.

I saw a couple of the sites listed on civ3.com under buy that had the collectors edition but they say the available date is Oct 16th for the special edition, not Oct. 1st.

In light of this, can I get some clarification here?
