Another National Wonder: Grand Horse & Cattle Market

Idea: raystuttgart
Implementation: raystuttgart
Graphic: Schmiddie

I have used different graphics which I had already found here in the forum. I rearranged and painted them new and voilà...

ray has implemented the market...

Hi Folks,

I thought about implementing a new artillery unit for a while, since I had seen a model of a 15 inch mortar (used by the French in 18. century) for civ4.

I had a problem with the graphic, it did not work in Col2, but SaibotLieh solved the problem (again my special thanks SaibotLieh!) and now we could have a 15 inch mortar in game:

Spoiler :

I know, we already have a lot of units in game...and it is just an idea...we could think and discuss about it.

I could imagine that we use it as a spcial siege cannon
- bonus for city attack and forts (with corresponding promotions)
- minor effect against units in terrain
- needs great arsenal or maybe only available in Europe or by events (???)

The graphic looks great. :goodjob:

But when introducing such a unit ingame a few points have to be clarified / thought about.

1. AI

If this unit is useful only in very special cases we must prevent that AI is building / using this unit too much instead of the more generally usefuly Artillery.

Otherwise we will weaken AI.
AI is not wise enough to really handle "very special purpose units" and thus it should not build / buy too many of them.

2. Balancing

If this unit is generally very strong, then we must make it rare.
Otherwise we will destroy balancing when fighting Natives or Kings.

3. UnitArtStyles / Atmosphere

If this should become a "Special Unit" (given by a DLL-Diplomacy Event) like "Hessian Mercenary" it would totally be ok for me to have only one graphic for all Europeans.
That graphic should show "neutral" uniforms then.

If this should become a "generally available Unit" (available through building / buying) then I would really prefer to have UnitArtStyles.

4. Usefulness / Differentiation

I don't like to bring units to the game only to have more great graphics.
Somehow units must be useful / interesting to the player.

-------

Summary:

All of these points do not prevent to introduce that unit. :)
But they must be thought about / answered.

If this unit should either be very strong or very special purpose, I would suggest to bring them into the game with another (rare) DLL-Diplo-Event.
(Thus we will prevent to unbalance the game or cause problems to AI. Also, we won't need UnitArtStyles for all Europeans.)

But what could such a DLL-Diplo-Event be about ?
(It should be a bit atmomspheric and not only "Do you want to buy this unit ?".)

I have adjusted the Founding Fathers new Features (like Culture) and new Buildings (mainly the National Wonders).

The screenshots show only a few examples.
(Many more have been adjusted.)

Thanks for your comments, ray. Here are my answers:

I agree. It is a very huge siege cannon, therefore we should limit the unit ingame.

2. Balancing

If this unit is generally very strong, then we must make it rare.
Otherwise we will destroy balancing when fighting Natives or Kings.

I agree, same as above.

3. UnitArtStyles / Atmosphere

That would be no problem. I can make UnitArtStyles.

4. Usefulness / Differentiation

I agree. As stated in my post, the unit should have it's own characteristics (siege cannon).

The diplo-event could be that the king is worried about the strength of the other Europeans (maybe if a number of cities has been founded) and will support his colonies by sending big siege cannons to his loyal colonists (requires good relationship to the king)...

Ok then. :)
If you want, you could integrate the graphics.

If it is a rare special unit I don't think we will need UnitArtStyles.
(Unless you really want to create them for all 8 Nations.)

I will create a DLL-Diplo-Event when I find the time.

As requested by Schmiddie, I have implemented the feature Pirates. :)

From time to time (under certain conditions) Pirates will spawn.
(Of course they will attack your ships then.)

If you have enough money you can also:
(A DLL-Diplo-Dialog will popup then.)

A) Give them letters of marque so they will fight for you.
B) Bribe them so they will leave you in peace.

AI will also try to hire such pirates if it has the money.

Of course this feature could theoretically be expanded to a much bigger one in the future.
We will see ... :dunno:

Wow! All of these are great features! Good to see the R&R mod is still being in development.

I just hope to see these improvements in a future public version of the R&R mod, I'm currently playing version 1.3 and loving it.

Nice to hear that people like what we do. :)

Good to see the R&R mod is still being in development.

We are simply a few befriended modders trying to make the mod a bit better for ourselves.

I just hope to see these improvements in a future public version of the R&R mod.

That is the current plan.
When we are happy with what we created and have thoroughly tested it, we plan to release again.
(But there is still a lot of work ahead ... :whew: )

Wow :) Another great feature :)

Small "bug": on print screen with king diplo-dialog there is text:
"They must either eliminated [...]"
I guess it should be:
"They must be either eliminated [...]"
;)

I have created the building for the "publishing house" / next building and national wonder according to newspaper:

I used the original vanilla newspaper graphic, a little bit work with blender and here it is:

And here is the next small feature:

Entertainment

Buildings: Tavern -> Saloon -> Theatre -> Grand Opera

Effects: Will generate gold from culture rate of its city.
(The higher the level of the Specialbuilding, the more.)

Thus:

Culture is not only imprtant to expand borders anymore.
It will also increase your wealth, if you build the appropriate Buildings.

Other changes:

Tavern is not involved in selling alcohol on domestic market anymore.
Building Market is the only building responsible for that feature now.

Taverns also do not produce alcohol themselves anymore.

Graphics:

Can be found here at CivFanatics.
Have been integrated into the mod by Schmiddie.

Finetuning:

Need to get some experience with this feature ingame before I can do good balancing.
Several texts also still need to be written / improved.

Hope you like it. :)

Great work Ray & Schmiddie:goodjob:

I think you guys are right about the siege artillery. From a historical perspective it was a specialized and very costly item, so its production and use was not that widespread, especially in the colonies.

I also love the idea of the pirates, it adds a little more fun to the game, and the publishing house is a nice touch too.

Hi everyone ! I'm impressed.
I've been away for a long time... I've had a lot of work lately.
I'm really impressed with your ideas Ray! :goodjob:
I like the graphics you've improved. Schmiddie.

About the next release. I'm must say... I don't know what to do... You've done much more from "outside" the team than me from the inside

By the way, I'm sorry if I didn't answer your messages before Ray and Schmiddie:(
