Late game this is killing me.

I don't care! Yet it takes so long per turn telling me as it flips on and off..

Is there any way of stopping it please?

Interesting observation ... I usually don't have the status "flip flopping" very often. Yes, when a bunch of cities change state, it does take a while.

WLTKD - We Love the King Day - (or Queen or President or whatever): is determined by the net happiness of a city. I build lots of roads, trying to ensure that all cities are connected to all the luxuries.
- If someone declares war on me, ending my import of a luxury, then I might drop out of WLTKD in a lot of cities
- A trade deal ends / expires, I lose a luxury, might cause me to drop out of WLTKD
- If my war has been dragging on for 18-20 turns, and I have not bumped up the lux slider, then war weariness might drop me out of WLKTD in a lot of cities
- When I end that war, especially if I have bumped up the lux slider, I might find myself gaining WLTKD in many cities. The war weariness disappears.

But those events are usually separated by a bunch of turns. Yes, I get a wave of popups when they happen, but I don't get another wave until many turns later. In the late game, I usually have nearly all the luxuries identified, imported, or conquered and so my happiness situation is fairly stable.

I don't know a way of turning off the popup. What things are happening in your games where the popups come in waves?

What effect (if any) does WLTKD have?

I think because it is late game, that a lot of the cities I own were another civs not too long ago.. and so if forced back into war, having to use conscription etc.. even with all the lux, it drops me out of WLTKD. I don't know if its also pollution, war wearyness, too cramped etc. I am being quite mitherly and running zero tax bribe. When I make peace it then flops the other way and everyone suddenly loves me.. so I get 50+ WLTKD triggers... only for another war to undo all the good work! aha.

I just don't need to know its happening or not, and I wish I could turn off the notification like you can animations etc.

In the Preferences, you can turn off the civil-disorder pop-ups, but that only gets rid of the box that appears onscreen (giving you the options of "I don't care/ Entertain them/ Zoom to city"), it doesn't get rid of the little "Civil disorder in <$CITY>!" message — or the "flames + smoke" animation — that appears over the town in the map-screen. So I would guess it's not possible to eliminate the "WLTKD in <$CITY>!" messages (and the "fireworks" animations), either.

I mean, sure, you could go into the labels.txt(?) file and replace both those messages with blank lines, and (if you know what you're doing) you could even replace the animations with blank (i.e. magenta) .flc files.

But unfortunately that still wouldn't prevent the game from yanking you back and forth across the map to show you the affected towns, which is — presumably — the actual source of your irritation (it annoys me, too!).

Boosts to commerce and food in the city, IIRC. I don't remember the exact numbers, though I will look for an article in the strategy forum to link to.

Along with this strategy guide on corruption (affects commerce) and waste (affects shields) https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/everything-about-corruption-c3c-edition.76619/

Neither of those articles mention food production. Maybe i'm misremembering, but I always thought that the people were so happy with your rule that they were "getting busy" romantically and increasing the population also. Probably just my wishful thinking, unless someone can confirm it.

Corruption doesn't affect food, only shields and commerce. Hopelessly corrupt settlements generating only one or a few of each can be turned into productive "specialist farms" by working food-rich irrigated tiles and turning other citizens into tax collectors, scientists, and (later) civil engineers and police officers whose output is not corrupted. It's easier to keep such settlements happy this way, and if necessary one or two can be turned into entertainers. Personally prefer scientists for beakers but other types can be useful. Here's a link; bear in mind its lead paragraph states specialists don't affect commerce or shields, when in fact police and civil engineers respectively DO produce these as later mentioned in the article:

You might be getting mixed up with CivDOS (and Civ II), per the Wiki linked above:

Republic/Democracy: Celebrating cities increase in population by one each turn so long as food is available.
The same text appears under the Civ II WLTKD page (https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/We_Love_the_King_Day_(Civ2) ), but that might be a copy/paste error
