Renaming Amendment - Team Poll

UN representatives: please post your team's vote in this thread after gathering their opinion. The admins will cast a tiebreaking vote if necessary.

Do you agree to the following amendments to the rules:

Current 2.4:

2.4 - Misleading through Renaming

Description: No team or individual is permitted to rename a unit or city with the intent of misleading or confusing opponents.

Definition: Cities can be renamed to names of tech or sums of gold or anything else in an effort to not trade what that opponent agreed to. Units can be renamed to other units and appear to be something else entirely.

Purpose: To prevent the misleading or confusion of another team through malicious use of in-game features.

Verdict: Using this 'feature' or any other feature or exploit that allows misleading or confusing another team is a violation of this rule.

Punishment Level: Once – Red (5-Expulsion and forfeiture of double what was not legally traded)

Proposed amendment (changes are in bold and italic):

Surely there are more than 6 active members ?!? ... there is even an 'abstain' option for those who doen't care one way or another ...

I think it's pretty obvious how those of us who care feel about this one.

Just vote in the UN so we can put this sad chapter in the MTDG behind us.

There is still! discussion going on in the UN on this issue. Well, to be honest, I don't really think three people slugging it out is much of a substantive discussion per se.

In any case, it is clear to me that those who choose to engage in such antics aren't painting a very pretty portrait of themselves for the rest of us to look at; I would therefore advise MIA (in possession of cooler heads) to stay out of the UN discussion.

If we want to talk about this further, it would be best to keep those talks Private. Keep your comments and questions in this thread. Not posting in the UN until a vote is required by game admins will make us appear to be circumspect, cautious, and coolheaded in the eyes of everyone in the UN forums.

I also think that the fewer the people posting in the UN on this issue, the sooner the whole thing will die a death of attrition. Maybe we should also ask KISS to refrain from public comments in an effort to make UN peace with everyone?...

I disagree with this part though.
1) It's really not our place to tell them what to do - they might take it wrong.
2) As much as I like team KISS - someday we DO have to defeat them! If they want to hurt their diplomatic chances - I say we let them

1) As an ally, I think it is our place to offer counsel, even when unsolicited. To ensure they 'don't take it wrong', we will employ our most able diplomatic core.

2) Someday, yes, we will come to blows with KISS. However, right now, we need them as much as they need us. Once we are industrialized (many real moons from now) we will certainly reevaluate our position. But at this point, and for quite a long time forseeable, we need them to not misstep.

Basically, I just wish this whole stupid discussion would die out. DNUTS aren't saying much on the matter. You'll notice it's mostly between TNT and KISS. KISS should smarten up, and shut up. Better for us, and better for them... Better for them, and so even better for us!

(You know I have huge respect for you also)

on #1 - I see your point. I'm sure it could be done.

on #2 - I understand your reasoning - but I'm still not convinced! How could KISS being on unfriendly terms with everyone but MIA be bad for us? The way I see it - if we're the only loved nation in the game, that puts us in the drivers seat on all tech deals.

True - we don't want KISS starting any wars and dragging us in - but I don't think they'd do that without consulting us (or if they do, they're reasonably enough to not expect us to immediately jump on the bandwagon)

Against this small risk of war, you have to weigh the much larger risk that they will conduct friendly trade deals with the other Nations – while I’m sure they will include us… it will be on THEIR terms. All things being equal, I’d rather have it on OUR terms as much as possible.

Last note: I totally agree this whole thing is beyond stupid.

Only just became aware of this foolish predanticism and preaching whines ...

I notice that most of KISS big guns are quiet ... if we are all silent the debate will cease ... I could mention in next discussion if you wish ... but they are being goaded as well ... it's become like an almost OT Religious debate ... Boring

Teams have already voted ... and that should be that ... getting lost in all the words and when someone brought in a Kant reference ... yawn ... only when I've got champaigne or wodka ...
