Hi Folks,
48 hours ago, I reported two threads to moderators in OT. The nature of the threads reported was vulgar and very offensive (more so for some posters of a particular sexual orientation).

I was just wondering what the protocol is for reported threads. AFAIK, no action has been taken against the poster.

Thanks

AFAIK, the moderators see your report and then look at the post. They then deem whether it is indeed offensive or wrong or not. If if the whole thread is simple too spammy, it is closed. If it is offensive, it is either cloased or totally deleted. If it is a single poster who is either spammy or offensive, he or she is banned for a period of time based on the offense. For example, there was an extremely offensive thread on orgies. I reported it and citied that I found it offensive. It appears to have been deleted know. :) I hope this helps some.

I got back today, And saw that action had been taken against the poster (13 reports to moderator on that one). Usually there would be a public posting of Moderator Action: x
Please read the forum rules: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=422889, but I have not seen I where yet. Sometimes the posters activiity is over several threads, and such mod action is inserted in only one place. Sometimes if the moderator has to log off it does not get posted after higher priorities of: taking action, loggin it in the staff forum, and messaging the poster are done first. Note that if a poster status is "Banned by moderators", it will not show up in his title like 'temp banned' or "perma banned" that can only be entered by the administrator. All you might notice is that he is not currently posting (but he could still log on, read posts, and read messages). Saturdays seem to be busy days for 'fanatical' gamers for soom reason, and sometimes reports sit in the inbox a while.

I think it is geting a thorough exhaustive review in the evidence locker. :D

Mods have lives, on the weekend... unlike some. :mischief: :p

Don't worry - action will be taken, regardless of time lapsed; just that if the miscreant does more 'dmg' in the time lapsed, the accorded action will be stiffer. ;)
