Requirements for MPP

Hi,

I have a question that I don't seem to find an answer to in the existing thread.

In the attached game, where I'm at peace with all civilizations, the option "Mutual Protection Pact" is not available with the Incas in the diplomacy screen, although the Incas have an embassy in my main city. ROP is available but not MPP. Why is that?

Also, I produce ancient cavalry, which is 3.2.2, and who seem to be beaten by archer (2.1.1) both attacking and defending. This does only happen sometimes, but is far from exceptional, which I would think it should be, comparing the the attack/defense figures. This happens although my unit has the same level (veteran for instance) as the opponent.

Finally, when defeating the defenders of Houston, I got the city destroyed, instead of being able to take is over. When does that happen?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome Nilo [party]
IIRC to get a MPP there must be Nationalism by both parties.

On combat terrain can make a huge difference.
IE if you're defending in a desert (0%) but attacking archers on mountains(100% Def. bonus) you'd be 50/50 on winning or losing. Add some rivers, city sizes, etc and all will impact the combat.

If you destroyed the city it's because it was Pop. 1.

While I think only one party needs to know it, I think it has to be the party making the offer. Or I could be completely wrong.

Only one of the players needs to know it.

Well, an archer would have a 100% increase in defense, making it two. The ancient cavalry would have about a sixty percent chance to win every round, not fifty-fifty.

Well now I'm not going into combat without checking the odds with the online combat calculator version 2. So far my warlord level game is going very well. Lincoln is really pissed at my Dutch, but hey, he's the one who declared war twice. Second time he gave me 325 gold to end it.

Now I'm looking for that sentry thing to check if it could detect the barbarian villages before they have produced 7 horsemen. Good exercize for my ancient cavalry to decimate those, but still sometimes there is some other stuff to do instead. I guess the "sentry" discussion is somewhere on the forum. I'll have a look.

Thanks for the good answers again.

P.S. I discovered this game a couple of weeks ago and now I'm spending all my free time on it. I guess that's no original behavior is it? : :crazyeye:

All terrain and sea tiltes give a base defensive bonus of 10% +25% when the unit is fortified. Hills are 50% defense bonus + 25% if unit is fortified. Mountains are 100% + 25% if unit is fortified. Marsh is 20% defense bonus. Forest and Jungles are 25%
