Hey, Civ Fanatics,

I am having that old problem where my Civ V launch won't let me choose Divx 10/11 because I need service pack 2 or greater, apparently. I have Windows 7, so the classic answer to this is that Steam is running compatability mode and you have to change that.

Except it isn't.

Other advice columns say to check it, leave, and then uncheck compatability mode to fix it.

That doesn't work either.

I am having a lot of other problems with my games and how they run (FPS is around 9 for any first person game, corrupt saved files in Sims 3 that EA support can't seem to fix, etc.). Does anyone know if this Divx 10/11 error could possibly be an issue with my hardware, or if there is something I can do myself to fix this?

I am going to be contacting Alienware soon to fix my computer, obviously things are wrong with it, but if I can play Civ V in the meantime I would be REALLY happy!

I have no concrete idea, but the first thing which you should do is to tell us what computer hardware to have.
Because it will not be worth thinking about the issue if it turns out that you don't have a DX10/11 compatible graphics card ^^.

An alienware laptop will have something that is dx11 compatible. To me it sounds like your drivers have been screwed or the system is infected. So you probably should reset it to manufactory settings or have them do it.

Ahhh thank you. Yeah, I've been playing with DX10/11 for the past year, just recently screwed up... along with everything else. That makes sense. Will call, cause they also are going to give me a new graphics card when I have the time for them to install it... at least Alienware customer support rocks. Thanks!
