Greetings, CFC forum gamers!

About 3 years ago, I hosted a game on my native site that is not a mafia or werewolf style game.

Set in the Resident Evil universe, on an interactive map, 62 players played a survival/horror game where their objective (if they were typical survivor roles) was to find a method of escaping the city they were in, which had just suffered a terrible viral outbreak and was now swarming with zombies.

Players typically began with not much in the way of weapons, health items, or information. They had to search the city, block by block, landmark by landmark, and obtain what they needed. Some way of defending themselves, some health items in case they suffered damage, some scraps of paper scattered around town which revealed clues as to how to escape.

Certain buildings (landmarks) were locked and inaccessible unless they were busted open (requiring someone of high strength) or unlocked (requiring a key item of some kind, hidden elsewhere on the map).

Solving the entire game was impossible for any given player, but the innocent survivors as a team were able to unlock the necessary buildings, find the escape routes, and get out of there before they were all wiped out.

In the meanwhile, they were attacked by the Zombie horde, which was a group of NPC characters controlled behind the scenes by me, and El Gigante, which was a massively powerful antagonist whose sole purpose was to split up large groups of survivors (to keep the game balanced) and if you stayed and tried to fight him, you'd likely die. But, he was not unkillable and he was in fact slain halfway through the game, so the survivors could now safely congregate for their own protection.

Elsewhere, there were two rival "mafia" factions who were not innocent and did not share the objectives of the others. They were the Umbrella Corporation faction, and their rival (I created) called SynTech Systems.

They were both teams of mercenaries and assassins, charged with locating the Omega virus, extricating it from the laboratory, and escaping via the chopper at the airport. However, only one team could meet this objective, so they would race to get the virus, and they could identify each other on sight, and their objective was to wipe out the rival faction if possible, which would make it easier for them to meet their primary objective. One of those teams met all those objectives and escaped.

There was also a hidden faction of Plagas-infected beings, three demon monsters and one Queen. Their sole objective was to locate a single specific human survivor who possessed "perfect" DNA and incapacitate him, and then have the Queen "mate" with him and generate Plague Tyrant offspring, then consume his body, killing him.

The Plagas team also met their objective and mated, created three Plague Tyrants, and thus won the game for their faction, but they were also obliterated by a combination of the townie survivors and the SynTech mercenaries who were quite badass.

Also in this game was a townie role which was unlike the others, Leon S. Kennedy, who could identify both Umbrella and SynTech mercenaries on sight, and had orders to destroy them, as well as zombies, plagas, and Serial Killers which were roaming about. His objective was also to unlock as many buildings as he could and personally rescue as many survivors as he could.

Leon ended up slaying an enormous number of zombies personally, as well as an Umbrella agent or two, managed to unlock a bunch of critical buildings, located the Tank Key, and escorted about 4 other townies out of Dark Falls using the Tank, thus meeting all his objectives and scoring the highest individual score.

That's what happened last time.

3 years later, the Sequel is about to begin.

I need players. And not just any players.

This is an "Invitational" for a reason. Last game, we had about 5 players drop out. Some of them were vital town roles, like a doctor, for example. As such, I don't want people who cannot commit to a game.

The time requirements for this game:

Remember to log in and check the game as often as possible, but the bare minimum is to send me two actions per week.

The game is going to be divided into Movement and Interactive phases, sort of like Night and Day in a mafia/werewolf game.

Each phase will be 2-3 days long, capped off with 1 day to process the orders, calculate the results, and tell everyone what happened.

During that time, you may privately communicate with adjacent players that you can see.

This process takes far, far more work than any mafia/werewolf game, and that is why there is a co-host assisting me, and there is a 24 hour delay between phases, so the real work can be done.

3 days, followed by a day to resolve the Movement phase,
2 days, followed by a day to resolve the Interactive phase,

That's a week.

I expect the game to last for 20-25 weeks minimum.

That means you'll end up sending me between 25 and 50 orders, over the course of those 25 weeks, depending on when you die.

Since there is no Public discussion thread, most of the action takes place behind the scenes.

You're allowed to interact with people you are within 1 map tile of, and also, maintain contact across a "chain" of people within 1 tile of one another. You can also maintain contact via a radio device or cell phone, if you obtain one and give one to another survivor.

There's not much reading involved except the Phase End Writeups, and the Result PM I send you which details what exactly happened to your character in the past phase.

You will be given a character card that looks something like this:

(This is what they looked like last time, it will be different this time)

Background information:

For a billion years your species had ruled the Earth, but an extinction-level event forced you and your brethren under the rocks and the soil. You learned to survive on soil bacteria, running water, and mineral nutrients. However, this was not much of an existence. You began to hibernate through long periods of famine. Eventually your body was almost totally petrified, and you became inert. The eons passed, and eventually, you and some of your brethren were unearthed by a homo sapien, who was working for his hive in a land the humans call Spain. Your spores implanted themselves in their soft, weak vessels until you were able to awaken one of the cerebrates, one the intelligent soldier caste. The cerebrate did his duty well, and unearthed one of the Mother creatures, and stored her in a maturation chamber until she was ready to once again propagate the species. You are that Mother creature. In order to bring your species back from the brink of extinction, you must locate suitable genetic material. Unfortunately, none of the surviving males of your species are of the breeding caste, so you must locate male genetic material that is compatible with your own, a pure specimen to father your hive. Given the millions of years evolutionary divergence between your genetic material and that which is housed inside these homo sapien creatures, only a select few of these lesser beings would be deemed viable genetic material for you.

That is your mission... you are the Bride Creature. You must locate the Groom, whatever the cost. There should be one Groom at any given time. However, if this vessel is damaged, infected by an impurity, or dead, the vessel will no longer be compatible. You musy locate the next most suitable Groom.

Mission goals:

1. Killing the humans isn't always necessary; they are excellent drone creatures and can also be a tasty snack. The more there are alive, the more powerful your hive can become. However, if they become troublesome, their deaths mean nothing to you.

2, Locate the Groom. He is a male creature located somewhere in this village. If he dies, another will replace him. If all the men are dead or have escaped, then you have FAILED.

3. When you find the Groom, you must consume him. His genetic material will pass through your digestive organ's lining, and be carried through your blood stream to your massive egg sac. Then it will fertilize your eggs.

4. You can lay an egg every 15 minutes, and you must keep them safe from danger. You will now have the ability to paralyze the humans with your mating jelly.

5. Implant these fertilized eggs into living human hosts. They will become Tyrant creatures.

6. Make as many Tyrant creatures as possible. Depending on how many of your goals you reach, and how many Tyrant creatures you create, you will score somewhere between a Total Victory and a Total defeat, on a graded scale.

Abilities:

Detect Mate (100% chance of detecting the Groom creature)
Regeneration (adds 1 vitality per round until maximum of 10)
Feat of Superhuman Strength (can bend steel and destroy almost any roadblock, and you ignore walls)
Telepathy- keep in contact with your workers. You start with 3 worker creatures who will assist you. They don't look human, and they only have a 1/3 chance of detecting the Groom creature.

You can't use these yet:

Transform- When you find the Groom creature, it is no longer necessary to disguise yourself. When you transform, your appearance will no longer be human, and you will have a combat strength of 10. You can't use this ability until you have located the Groom creature.
Consume- When you are within range of the Groom creature, you may attack and attempt to defeat him in battle. When his vitality reaches zero, you may "consume" him.
Lay egg- This will happen every 15 minutes.
Paralysis- now that you have begun to lay eggs, you have developed the ability to paralyze the bodies of the humans you wish to implant your eggs in. This happens automatically in combat.
Implant egg- hunt down the humans and defeat them in combat. When their vitality reaches zero, you can implant an egg inside them and convert them into a Tyrant creature.

Allies:

You have three worker creatures who serve you. They are YLC, Seon, and Roadkill.

Further information:

I will soon be sending out your character card, which will give your location, current status, and any weapons or items you start with, as well as other pertinent details. The character card will be updated to reflect the events of every round of play. However your role PM can and should be saved and used as a reference about your character and your mission.

You'll roam around on a map that will look something like this:

Spoiler :

(Note, this map is only 50% complete, I still have a LOT of buildings to fill in, and I need to label the grid coordinates.)

Now then..............

Please click this link to learn more about the game.

This game will not be hosted on CFC, but my native site.

I am looking for 10 candidates.

I may get more interest than that. If I do, I may randomize who gets to be in.

Please post in this thread if you're interested.

PM me if you would like to be invited.

Keep in mind, I only want dedicated forum gamers who can commit.

To be considered, please PM me and let me know how much you really want to play this game, tell me you do not have a history of signing up to games and dropping out, and maybe tell me a little bit more about yourself.

If you can't handle sending in 2 orders a week, chatting with nearby survivors, checking your PMs religiously, and reading the story I write as the game progresses, and you cannot commit to a game that may last for 6 months, you will not be considered.

Thank you for your interest!

This is what the previous game looked like:

Please keep in mind, this was 3 years ago. The beautiful music and images from way back then, many of those links are now broken. Youtube videos have been removed, and some of my images got deleted.

However, the game itself, the rules, the story, the final scores, and the role PMs are all located within this thread.

Best viewed at maximum post # per page and with the forum skin (you can switch it at the bottom of the page) called "The Guild". Otherwise it looks funky. I prefer viewing my native site with "The Guild" Skin, and I pretty much guarantee you will too.

FunFact: The story written for this game, taken as a whole, is comparable to many well-known novels in terms of word count (and, imo, quality of writing :p but I digress.)

I so want to..... but I don't what be in a situation where I let you down.

So be a reserve player. That way, when someone inevitably lets me down, you either salvage the character or also go inactive, meaning no further damage has occurred.

:goodjob:

How intensive did it become for players around planning and communication?

Less intense than say, your NOTW game was.

I could talk to anyone in the game if I wanted.

In RE, you can talk to the people you're in adjacent tiles with, or have radio two-way communications with.

Less people to talk to, more than 24 hours to plan.

Easy, easy.
