I was wondering what your favorite resource was in the game?
Mine is Iron.:scan:

Well i like horse... then you can make some kickass units. But i guess oil is the most important one...

When you first see oil, and see that you have none, that's an excellent reason to declare on the easiest neighbour who has oil, while you still can. The upside of the oil resource is that you see it much earlier than you need it.

Regards.

I find aluminum the resource I end up warring over more than oil

Yes aluminium is a must have resourse if your going for a space race.
The most annoying event of all is losing your aluminium during a space race..

By the time I get to Oil I usually control three civ's territories (right after Cossacks) :)

Horses are the resource I absolutely need for conquest, for the same reason. If I don't have horses (rarely) I usually have at least elephants, or if not, iron. Never had a game yet without all three.

The resource I'm most relieved to find is nearby? Copper.

Without copper or iron just surviving can be nearly impossible on higher levels.

By the time oil and such show up I usually find that I have enough territory or trading partners so that it's not such a big deal.

Gems and gold.

Shiny stuff rocks.

Of all the luxuries, these are IMO the best. With forges, each will give 2:)!

Of the strategic resources, I find iron the most important. Many early/mid game units need iron and it's hard to get by without it. Oil and aluminium I've never had problems finding or obtaining. Arguably they are more important but they're usually easier to get, and come at a usually less critical part of the game (ie. either you're winning by that stage or you are looking at a loss).

Don't think I have had a game yet where oil / aluminium (thats al-you-min-ium btw :p) didnt appear in my back garden in vast quantities.

Stone / marble are harder to find, but this is probably just perspective, its not like you can search the whole map with just one warrior at the start of the game, you either start near it, or you don't.

Bronze or iron so that I can build some more powerful units.(Bronze for axemen and iron for swordsmen :D)

As a starting resource gold rocks. An extra 6 commerce can realy make a difference in the tech race.

I like whatever resources give me the greatest benefit at that specific moment in the game.
