Return to 2 Civs ...

Random personalities is in, just checked. It is a checkable option. 5 continents as in Custom continents where our civs may be anywhere or One continent per team. I think the 1st would be our choice or why bother with 2 civs.
ruff is correct about the techs.
I think you could just slap it together and start it. I sometimes get goodies and sometimes not and I've played well from a bad start though have never won from one. You guys decide. Maybe you'll find someone to spend the effort to make us a map? Maybe there's one on the site. I'll check.

Yes Random Personalities is in but Unrestricted Leaders is out.

The only way round the tech issue is a house rule permitting tech trading between team members but no other tech trading permitted ... not really ideal but there it is. It would be slightly more difficult to police this rule than the house rule banning nukes.

I'm also inclined to say start it on a random map and see what happens ... if it sucks then we can abort and try to get a map created for us somewhere.

you can edit in unrestricted leaders but it requires a WB save edit. And, obviously some method of randomly selecting the leader / civ mix.

Civs on a team automatically share tech - so trading between them isn't an issue.

I'm Back.

From What I have read:
Tech trading seems a big issue. I prefer the tech trading even though I've been on the harsh end of it in two games. Adds anther complexity to the diplomacy. Not a show stopper for me though.

For the Human touch - Depends on who you get. experience shows Ruff, Dazz and Mitchum turn around quickly. I get to games within 36 hours. We shouldn't have issues on that.

Do like the 5 AI with the 5 human teams. I think it should be teams. If we don't do teams and our leaders as historically apart, they Civ's will be far apart giving another disadvantage.

I'd like to pick the leaders.

No opinions on the other stuff.

@ Joe ... I'm trying to go with majority and as most seem happy with all random civs, thats what I'm gonna go with. Sorry.

We seem to have a majority on most things except tech trading, which seems very split ... Brokering isn't an option so its all or nothing.

I intend to launch the game this evening (GMT) on a random map to see how it turns out. I will launch with whatever the majority vote is at the time of launch.

My preference if Tech Trading ON.

Chas has previously hinted at Tech OFF
Joe has suggested Tech ON

I'm not sure where Ruff and Mitch stand on this one ........

On/Off doesn't matter unless you guys are split even, then I go with the game originator. On you Dazz, I await my turn.

tech trading ON for me.

Hi,

Just to weigh in, I'd prefer to pick leaders as well. With a single civ, random is fine. With two civs, it's much better to pick civs that have some kind of synergy. If it is left to chance, you could end up with two civs with the same (or similar) traits, which limits your options.

Tech trading ON makes the game more interesting, but can lead to ganging up on one player. I could go either way.

Having AI could lead to imbalanced games since the AI is so weak... I can go with or without. I just wanted to state the obvious.

Mitch

Ok Tech Trading is ON

Mitch makes a fair point regarding picking civs.

Obviously if we are gonna pick civs then no point in random personalities.

If you all want to submit preference lists then i'll get the show on the road. Make the list as long as you can ... with 10 civs being picked there is bound to be some duplications.

Civ4 vanilla right? I'll get you a list of Civs this afternoon.

I try to pick civs that have synergy with each other. My first pair choice would be Saladin and Qin. If this pair doesn't work, I'll pick another pair.

By the way, this game will likely take 1 to 2 years of our lifes. I would rather take a few days at the front end to agree on the settings than to start a game right away and have issues later.

I still think we should get someone to remove all huts. I'm sure that I can get Ainwood (GOTM staffer) to set it up for us since he did it for me last time.

There are still some settings that haven't been agreed:

Level:
Climate:
Speed:
Sea Level:
Starting Era:

Some of these may be minor, but they can impact the game.

Avoiding mentioned CIVs, My Civ Choices are:
1) Liz & George
2) George and Bismark
3) Liz and Bismark
4) Mansa & FDR
5) Japan & Isabella
6) Inca & Egypt

Level: Noble seems to be pretty standard with PBEM. Will go as high as prince
Climate: Whatever
Speed: Normal
Sea: Whatever
Starting Point: Whatever. Though Later starts does move the game along faster.

I took it that noble was standard as was default settings for climate, speed and sea.

As for starting point, while later starts do move the game along faster, the experience of NITF was that the guys at the start of the play order were automatically given the religions. I say Ancient is fairest.

As Mitchum said;
There are still some settings that haven't been agreed:

Level:Noble
Climate:Temperate
Speed:Quick or whatever
Sea Level:Low
Starting Era:Classical or whatever
I filled in the blanks though as I've said ...whatever.
We have already decided custom continents and 5 as the number of them. I also think Huge was the world size?
As I understand it we have 5 teams of 2 and 5 other AIs. Is that correct?
My choices are
Hatshepsut/Mao Zedong
Mansa Musa/ Peter
As I am number 5; put random wherever I lose out in the choice category.

I go with what all/Dazz choose.

Sorry Dazz I was typing while you were.

here are my leaders ...

Asoka
Louis XIV

If either of these are unavailable, please let me know and I will (might) select a different pair.
