Review Keys Out, Embargo ends on Feb 3rd

I doubt that "very limited replayability due to the Legacy always looking the same" can be easily fixed.
it's not impossible, just need alternate legacy paths. more a question of whether that's free update or DLC

Not easily, but I think it is manageable in the long run.

I will say, this caption got a good laugh out of me. exactly how I've always felt about the disaster system

It's particularly true for Civ 7, where you can spend your way out of a crippling natural disaster.

Yes but I don't think that's very different than previous games. Especially once there is an established meta.
The legacies should probably be a bit more harder or focused though. I don't like some of them rewarding you for stuff you would do anyway like settling or making a trade route.
* First it makes it very possible you can accomplish multiple or all at the same time reducing the interest of actually choosing and going out of your way to achieve a specific objective.
* Second it reduces the impact accomplishing an objective should have on your game decisions.

I expect that before long I’ll just ignore the legacy paths mostly and just play “normally” if they start to feel samey.

There are a huge amount of stacking bonuses, I’m not too worried about not being competitive without those perks (especially if the AI is what I expect it to be).

Besides, just playing “normally” will generally accrue some points on the legacy paths anyway.

While back in Civ 6 that would be 1 click and 12 turns (since the volcano destroyed your IZ and your city production dropped to half)

Glancing through some YouTube video reviews, it seems that for the more experienced players and those who played 100+ hours, the Age transition making everything end abruptly (especially war) can feel really awkward.

Hmm I wonder if that’s the case with the extended ages setting?

I hope that's true, because I'd rather play for my own amusement and see what legacy points I accrue than to make the established meta my strategy.

if it involves improvements (usually it does) it takes 12+ clicks.

select worker, move them to destination, (wait for them to get there), select worker, rebuild improvement. I always hated that doing anything with workers requires coming back to the same worker twice over the span of 2 turns — why can’t I just queue a build for when he gets there?

anyways 4 clicks per tile x 3+ tiles = 12+ clicks. and that’s not counting the clicks to make more builders, or to slot the policy that vastly expands builder charges.

Not even alternative paths but more ways to get the same path (more ways to get Relics, Artifacts, Treasure Fleets…possibly a second Relic belief on the religion with an advanced civic…Treasure fleets from Trading with DL civs)

Overall, not quite surprised. I was expecting a 7-8 average. Both the positives and negatives I'd foreseen from the pre-release media seem to have been validated throughout reviews.

I am disappointed to hear, however, that the Modern Age isn't as strong as the previous ones. That's news to me, since we hadn't known much about it.

So overall, I believe it's going to be pretty decent for a launch version, and patches and mods will eventually help a lot.

There is a meter on the top left showing the age progression. No one should be caught by surprise by the age ending. Which makes it funny that the devs themselves were caught out in the livestream.

There is a "time skip" between each age, so despite the game state changing, you can imagine that the events played out off-screen.

Imo the mixed reviews are not only expected but actually a good thing, I'm pleased to see some proper criticism and hope that the design team take it seriously, especially with regards to the UI and pacing. Looking forward to giving it a go soon!
I agree, and I think that 81/100 based on 57 reviews is still a very good score for an entry that has some major changes.

Do any of the new videos give a preview of the Mughals' various uniques?

Do any recent videos go past the victory screen to show what the end game summery looks like?
I'm personally hoping we go back to a Civ V evolving map end screen. I'm shocked Civ VI never brought that back.
