OK. That makes no sense. I switched the focus to meet the ever-growing arms trade. Seems like with all these wars that have just finished, people would need to either replace or stockpile new weapons. Currently the supply would not meet the demand, so I deign to help satisfy generals.

You can never have enough weapons. If not USSR or Khitan, than some random African warlord. You said it yourself in the history thread that there was virtually no order there. Chaos + weapons = money.

Look at Africa. The states that exist in Africa are constantly growing and bringing order into Africa. With the downturn affected everyone, even the occasional Africa warlord has less money to spend on weapons. The USSR actually dropped in demand since they have started focusing on WMD production. Meaning their surplus is flooding the market instead of arming new recruits, meaning that the price of arms as a whole still went down so Egypt reported a lost. A smaller lost than most. But still a lost. The only reason the USSR didn't report a smaller lost is because of their prestige program (space program).

Lower cost weapons=less money period. There's no war going on so ammunition isn't being burned through like it was just three or four years ago.

Speaking of Africa, the Great Qaghanate of White and High would like to know where Egypt plans to expand in Africa. In the East or into the interior of the continent?

My current planned area of expansion is in orange.

I'd prefer to get farther to the west coast, but I don't need to plan farther than 5 turns ahead as far as territories are concerned. Too many variables.

Also, I'd gladly pay you for that territory in Africa you still have, and although I doubt you'd sell it, the Suez peninsula.

The Northwest of that orange area is slated for Khitan expansion. We encourage you to expand more in Southern Africa. Any blockage of Khitan expansion into the continent is unacceptable.

I'm fairly sure Africa would look less cluster****ed if I claimed somewhere south of Somalia, traded you that province for yours in Africa, and then you expanded east.

Protests in France!

Across the French territory of the European Republic, protests have broken out in protest of rising unemployment and centralization of the the supra-national government. Opposition leaders, including Charles deGaul own son, Charles deGaul II, are calling for the French Prime Minister and Congress to withdraw from the European Republic.

there are minor protests in spain in regards to the bad market. it was promptly called off when the President, somewhat irritated, brought up the Spanish Economy records which show a rise of 13 LP points. the Citizens muttered somethign about not knowing that and quickly dispersed.

because of this, the president of Spain is working on something called the 'internet'. fiber optics were shown to transmit power, but recent experiments also show it to transmit data.

the internet was conceived as to deliver information to the citizens instantly, and also to make the Government more open.

Personal computers do not yet exist, but the President hopes that Spain will introduce personal computers by the end of this decade. the internet will also be officially online by then too.

(its a slow going, and i fully expect the Soviet union beat us to it, thus wasting millions of Spanish dollars )
