Revolution IOT

Anybody whose somewhat familiar with the way I like my IOTs and Nationgames knows I hate pre-defined "causes of war" outside of Victoria 2. Instead, I thought players will come up with at least believable reasons for declaring war on one another which, for the most part, has happened. However, metagaming did sink in and I ended the force by force.

That won't happen next time. Next time a war starts and I have reason to believe its metagaming, I won't kick or ban the player. No. I'm going to call in the big guns in-game. I won't tell you guys what I'll do and I'll be creative each time. Zombie outbreak? UFO invasion? Colonial Revolt? Riots? Who knows but you won't want to find out. In future games I'll make, there'll be in-game reasons agaisnt rampant war mongering that are clearly visible by players (such as the world economy stability system I was going to use for Homefront). For now, there will be in-game events that really are going to suck.

On the flipside, I will be relooking at the costs of WMDs and tweaking them accordingly. Namely, atomic bombs and first tier chemical weapons seem too expensive relatively speaking. The costs would've been great if I had the forethought to have army maintenance but....I didn't. In any case, just a heads up.

that actually sounds interesting. could spice up the game when things are slow.

anyway, the peace stays.

Actually, the game is as active as it is because of the NPCs. Since Update 11 is coming up, I might do something....special.

So if I declared war on Southern Bumfackistan for their obsessive warmongering, which damages world trade and thus makes them a natural enemy to BP DB Edit:sorry, wrong corporation there, it would be frowned upon?

How about if I (and I am using this as an example because I know its not going to happen) I declare war on Portugal because of border disputes? Or I attack the middle east to secure myself a supply of oil for my ships?

I guess I don't understand what constitutes a valid reason.

Declaring war on someone for excessive warmongering is different from declaring war on them because of Metagaming reasons. Declaring war on somebody because of border dispute is also different if they border was actually in dispute (say through a same-turn claim). However, declaring war on somebody because they pissed you off in other IOTs or for out-of-character reasons is where it gets shady for me. In this case, I would've been perfectly fine with the idea of Spain saying they're going in to liberate Sinai and the Eastern Nile for Egypt if it wasn't for the fact that he was trying to just wipe Dom off the map for clearly outside-game reasons.

Mathalamus declared war on me for OOC reasons. That was why it was called-off by Sonereal. Because it was totally unfair and metagaming.

BTW: Can you please confirm that 1XP for 3LP trade?

Honestly? That's not a good reason. If Egypt went to war and then Spain went along to help Egypt to Liberate Egypt it might be, but not if Spain attacked first "For Egypt's greater good." That's just metagaming.

The way I see it is that if it's a somewhat valid casus belli for Victoria 2, it's good enough for here. In that game, you can declare war and forcibly liberate part of Brazil to give back to Paraguay even if Paraguay wasn't at war with Brazil. In any case, even a trumped-up in-universe CB is better than a trumped-up CB attempting to cover up metagaming reasons.

Whats this Victoria 2 you keep mentioning?

well... Egypt will have to get the lands back himself then. i have high hopes that he will win this time.
