RevolutionDCM for BTS

Eh Doctor
Thanks! Yeah Civ5 was essentially an experiment where all the gamers have been beta testers since it's release and more than 50% have enjoyed the experience. It has paid off financially from what I hear despite being an experimental version of Civ, which is amazing and great news, so the future for Civ looks solid.

The issue that I forsee is what will happen with religion and espionage in Civ5? The modders with a lot of hard work will fix the basic balance of Civ5 once they can get the source code, but if they implement a religion system, will it preempt what Firaxis are planning and thus be wasted effort? Are Firaxis planning anything at all?? The issue is that a lot of modding platforms like this one need a religion system at least. In the meantime while these questions remain unanswered, Civ4 support must be ongoing for the sake of the CivFanatics, and the Civilization series.
Cheers

I see that in addtion to the reguler PW2 map script, there are two others called PW2f and PW2g. What is the difference between the three?

Eh NBAfan
Yeah it is a bit nebulus unless you read the comments in the file itself. PerfectWorld2f is Fuyu's adjustments to Perfect World latest version which are very nice. PerfectWorld2g is a specialist continents version of PerfectWorld that I adjusted to give excellent old world games, as well as adjusting the resource balance for the standard corps in BTS. No longer does Sid Sushi dominate. The 2-3 continents that it produces are usually nice even north/south aligned with random pole crossing, adequate islands/less desert and more emphasis of the major ecosystem types. The map produces amazing variety but I've only actually tested it on standard map sizes and smaller. Cephalo's talent cannot be underestimated. Of course it can be further customized if you know what you are doing. Read the readme in the file themselves especially 2G.
Cheers

Thanks for the info.:)

Have a happy New Year everyone!:D

I tried the PW2g on large. It made two continents with a huge desert in the middle.

One more thing:
Afforess created a new BUG-like hover-over that split Commerce into Gold, Research, and Espionage. I like this one. Why? Because to my eyes, Commerce icon looks like Happiness icon.
In addition, he did the same for Trade Routes. I like this. Why? I do not know how to determine whether or not a building will give new Trade Routes at that moment (if you do, please let me know).

In a vanilla RevDCM, I already there are limited buildings, and thus easy to memorize, that give out Commerce or extra Trade Routes. However, it would be nice to not memorize but have the info right there in hover-over.

I'll let Afforess explain the specifics of the code if you (or EmperorFool) is interested.

Not an urgent request but it would be nice feature.

Otherwise, yeah the SVN version so far is just awesome. :goodjob:

Thanks OS. Yeah I think the SVN version is pretty much at release stage, and looks like it's stable on your end too. Will note down those requests on the list. I've been testing the build late game to see how stable it is, by autoplaying through 200 turns on quick, then changing to the civ in third place and playing from there as far as I can take it to check stability. It's also a fun way to play.

I'm thinking of adding a waypoint automation. You select the unit, click on any plot and the unit will patrol between those two points. I used it a lot in other games like RoN but it might be a waste of time in Civ.

Also thinking about adding in "trade for war" civ alerts which appear to be absent in BUG but pretty useful to know about if you are playing ruthless AI which I'm on most of the time.

@Nbafan
What size map did you test PW2g on? Because it is an allow pangaea map type that splits pangaea in two and reshapes it, it tends to produce 2/3 large north-south aligned continents that can sometimes be quite fat laterally. Occasionally yes it will produce a big desert in the interior dependent on the typical perfect world scenarios in terms of the shape of the land mass, the placement of the tectonic mountain ranges and it's position relative to the equator. Occasionally the map fragments into more smaller continents. On smaller map to standard map it works out really nice there and 50% of the time the desert region is quite acceptably small with nice variety.

Yeah, happy new year.
Cheers

Yeah, I play with Ruthless AI (since Afforess unleased it ). I like it.

About Waypoints...
I dunno because what I do with Border Patrol is mostly for baseline sea units. And only for spearmen and its unit tree until Riflemen, then I let them die out. Axemen and its upgrade tree until Riflemen.

The rest I use Hunt because by time Riflemen come along, the Archer--->Longbowmen line is riflemen and are already auto-city defending. They at the most times are sufficient for City Defense into late game.

So I mostly use Border Patrolling for Trieme--->Caravel--->Frigate--->Destroyers. They do great job patrolling. The rest of units I send out Hunting with suicidal attacks turned on. I always put my units in stacks of ten for effective use of Suicidal Attack code ;).

So I don't know how Waypoints would work. If you do include it, I will be more than happy to test it out.

Happy New Year to you too :D.

Anyone know how I can incorporate revolutiondcm 2.83 into ROM: AND 1.75 C ?

Simple.
Wait for Afforess to update his RAND ;).

As for RoM itself, Zappara had not been here for a long time. Who know when he returns.

You can go ahead and try to do it but if you have no merging/modding experience, best to wait for experts :).

I am planing on doing it for RoM for the experence if nothing else ;)

If you get stuck and there is no-one else around on Civ4 development, the RevDCM forum should still be ticking over for help on merging issues, for another month or two.

Cheers

Why just for another month or two?

Thanks, it looks like it is mostly the python that needs merging since RoM just uses the RevDCM dll and the differences in the XML look like they are all the things that make RoM RoM ;)

Eh Dancing
Don't know about RoM, but RAND does add a lot of extra stuff to the DLL and cannot be substituted. Not sure how that affects what you are trying to do.

Eh AbsintheRed
Yes good point. In two months time, if I'm caught doing any civ modding I will face the firing squad, because real life is apparently more important than civ (I dispute it, but it makes no difference to any plea for mercy :)). But what has happened in the past with this mod and hopefully will happen again, is that others will take over from me like Phungus did for a major slab during 2010, and I wrap up the releases. But that prospect is 1-2 months away whatever, and hopefully I can add some useful stuff before then.
Cheers

Yeah I totally understand
Just don't abandon the development and maintenance of RevDCM for good, this mod is vital for Civ IV

Also, I would still like to perfect the influence driven war in Revolutions if you have some time for this before you have that break in modding

Eh AbsintheRed
Yeah I'm sure more could be done with IDW and Revolutions. If you have any ideas about how the two can work together, could you post a thread topic on your ideas over at the Revolutions forums? The forum has been dead idle for some time, but it still is a huge information source for all that is Revolutions and Phungus and I still read that forum from time to time.

One more bug or accident on your part:
The unit suiciding code doesn't seem to be included in the merge. Can you check that it is merged in correctly in every place it can be found please?
