RFC 600 AD crashes to desktop when playing several of the civilizations, especially the aztec. The game just quits as if I had hit alt-f4. It makes it unplayable. I'm running 3.13. This was still crashing a year ago before i formatted my machine and it still doesnt work...any ideas? Other scenarios work fine.

thanks

welcome to civfanatics :xmas:

please open my games\beyond the sword\civilizationIV.ini and set all items with log in their name to 1, then start a game, crash it and post the contents of please open my games\beyond the sword\logs as a zip file.

I suppose the logs didnt clear when i restarted civ. Can I just delete them?

Actually, the game crashed on either the first or second turn, maybe it didnt get a chance to write a log. There are no error messages when exiting, it just goes to the desktop.

I've uploaded a new zip to the same address above. I checked the file sizes before and after the crash this time and it got bigger...I think it crashed like turn 6 this time.

Recently now in my other games it doesnt display a list of other civilizations on the right hand side of the screen. (its not in collapsed mode)...is this in the settings somewhere?...other ppl play civ on this machine too and they may have monkeyed w/ things, but i cant find any option like that.

sorry I lost sight of this over the holidays
even if it crashed during startup it should write something into the logs - just delete them and see if anything is written into them when you start the game.
the score display can be toggled on/off by one of the buttons in the lower right hand corner.

Thanks again...I thought i lost ya over the holidays...i appreciate the help...this scenario looks very interesting

I deleted the logs and uploaded a new zip...crashed like 3rd turn this time...

I found the button for scores...thanks...for some reason i thought all those buttons only changed the map view

wow...my audio drivers were 5 yrs old...heh...updated, crash turn 4-ish...I've made certain that these are the logs for that game...if this is another 1200 turn game's log, then the program is creating them from some aether realm...I've renamed it too, here is the link...these files were located at my documents/my games/beyond the sword/Logs, created in the last few minutes

...i'm gonna update my vid driver, but i think its pretty recent and i've had this same crash happen for years now

btw, where in the logs do you look for meaningful errors and basic info?

thanks again, you rock

usually the most interesting files are
init.log, resmgr.log, intmgr.log and app.log - in mods there are sometimes errors in PythonErr.log - the audio.log I don't usually look at - since that would only cause missing or weird sound effects, but in your case I was just looking through everything.
Unfortunately this all does not really help - the logs don't show any errors (the MPlog by the way is still huge :crazyeye:) - normally I would at this stage become desperate and recommend a reinstall, including purging all Civ4 related stuff from the harddrive - but you did reformat that right?

Alrite, I uninstalled civ4 and bts, then deleted my games/beyond the sword and civ4 and their home directories, reinstalled civ4, patched it, reinstalled bts, patched it, played it all the way to turn 9 (gasp), then it crashed :\

prior to this i updated vid drivers...however xp itself is not updated...i uploaded the logs to 'logs of doom' as linked above...they are only 2k this time...i didnt see any errors in there atall tho...

I had warlords installed via steam, but i uninstalled it long ago, however it still appears in the add/remove programs list...i dunno where its stuff is buried in steam

when i was installing civ4 i got an error message, but it continued to install just fine...here it is:
civ4.gif

thanks again

unfortunately the uninstall routine of Civ4 is not too good and even your deletions did not cover all... I do have a complete compilation around and will post that later. What bothers me is twofold:
the xml.log does not contain any errors - yeah I know this sounds weird but in a working install it has a few hundred...
also the civ4 install - could you post just the content of init.log of Civ4? are you sure that works?
This really is a hard one to tackle - and I am sorry it is giving you such a hard time :(

I started a game in regular civ4...here is the init.log...

[76097.296] DBG: CIV Init
[76097.312] VERSION: App: D:\CIV4\Civilization4.exe
[76097.312] VERSION: Build: Wed May 16 22:50:52 2007
[76097.312] VERSION: 1.7.4.0
[76097.671] VERSION: Mod Loaded: none

maybe i should just format my machine...it needs it anyways...

that looks as it should. I am sorry I am out of ideas on this one

I will never recommend to anyone a complete reformat just because of the work that includes. But here is a complete uninstall/reinstall routine for all three games (if you decide to follow that just ignore the Warlords part) - of course if you do format the drive that is mute...

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Vanilla
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS) (note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Vanilla, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.13 (download it fresh from here).

Just did all that...same crap...i give up...thanks anyways dude
