RFC Classical World

I have no internet at home right now so I can't do any svn commits. here is a patch though with some updates.

Visigoth UHVs made harder. longer tech path to Jurisprudence and shorter timelines for all goals.

dawn text for the Jin, Visigoths, Ostrogoths and Vandals

I will work more on the post-Roman west this weekend

Thats not something you see in every game though, I personally like to see some civs become great in my games. Civs that re-wrote their history! A pattern that applies in every game becomes boring imo. Thats why I quit playing DoC and I am now only trying CW and RFC Europe

I see the celts survive and thrive way too often for it to be historical. Also rarely do I see the Romans give them a hard time. I don't mind seeing an occasional civ wiggle out of its history and surprise me, but for the celts this happens almost every game. The worst example for me has to be when they were invading the Eastern Roman Empire. I was playing the Sassanids, and was frankly surprised when the Constantinople fell to the celts. I opened up the world builder, and the the celts had an Empire from Spain to Anatolia!

I have nerfed the Celts so much... I guess more barbs for them?

also I will make Rome more aggressive towards them

what about a Julius Caesar event?

around 58-50 BC Romans auto declare war to the Gauls and a Roman Great General Legionnaire unit spawns at their borders

I think we still need more Roman buffs. Although I do agree that strong Celts are one of their main obstacles- conquerors would be nice.

quick question, is Eastern Rome supposed to be at war with Western Rome at the start along with the Kushan? I started as egypt one and changed to eastern Rome in 330 AD. things went bad instantly. i was losing 256 gold per turn and much stronger Western Roman units were crushing my cities. it seems nearly impossible to win right now... maybe a peace treaty would be nice

Yes I agree, but Rome fails 9 times on 10 with celts, which make a wide empire.

I remember that srpt wanted to prevent irrealistic wars (China versus celts... etc).

Yes ! More for late game ! Thank you.

I think something is really wrong - civs merely don't have any choice where to find a city! For example, playing as the Gokturks, I've founded Karabalasagun and Otuken but then, no places! I didn't know where to go with the remaining 2 settlers... Please also make the AI found cities where they can : Rome shouldn't always find Pompeii and Iulia Aemona. Please make it varied :please:... Oh, and a much better version of the 550 AD scenario : changed city names to what it SHOULD be!

Create the Gokturk Khaganate :D ! I send The 2 other settlers to Kazakhstan, at the lake Balkhash that there are some resources ;)

edit: Speaking of The Gokturks, I came up to an idea for a new UP. OK obviously the horse spawn is a great one, but after a while you can trade it with everything you want as it is a very important resource. My idea is to make each province's area that you control (that is, every city in this province is yours) to sum up in your total area. This will help em achieve the hard second UHV.

Example, if all the cities in the Sarmatian and Mongolian steppes are yours, then all these provinces is yours and their percentage of world area is assumed to be yours as well!

Of course this will require the 2nd goal to change and make it greater, like 10% or even 15%

What do you think?

@DrZomboss

Could you also put some of those city names on the map yourself? Not to be rude, but it does kind of seem like a waste that you go a find all these maps, and they never really get used...

After some initial play testing I get the Civ V feeling where building the most simple building as a fairground can take 50-70 turns. I think the pace should be increased a bit. But this only after playing two civs in the 320 BC scenario.

Yeah, production overall has been quite nerfed. The entire game feels like it runs on epic rather than normal. Most civs, though, usually have one or two decent production cities, but many of the starting ones have practically no production without any improvements. As you improve the land most of these cities will have okay production, especially since villages and towns now give production as well. Specialists have also been buffed, so high-food cities aren't bad either.

Yes, early game with 320BC scenario is slow. But if early civs come to late game, the production is really too high compared to newborn civs. Example : Sassanids which get crushed by Parthia.

Actually I think it's OK to have this choice :
- Build army, but slowly, for the early game and take an advantage.
- Don't build army, only some mercenaries for emergency, and focus on economy.

Better than spamming troops to win.

@DC123456789 : I tried to make my own map.ods but I failed. :( I only have OpenOffice, not Exel.
Are you able to do a new map.ods like in the svn ? This way, I will work on it as soon as possible.

Here's my working copy. The CNM itself is exactly the same as the one I uploaded earlier. Note that the map itself is not complete- I've only done North Africa and part of the Middle East, but it should be fairly easy to construct the rest of the map using the game.

I'm working on it too, but only to fill the see and the mountains with colors. It takes a long time.

I did the North Sea, the Baltic, and West Africa for now. I keep going.
