RFC Classical World

perhaps mysticism is the cause of the crashes. I have never researched it in a game. I won't be be back to my computer til tuesday night but could you guys do some testing on it?

also you can prevent anyone from researching it by opening Civ4TechInfos.xml (in Assets/Technologies) and change the prereq to "TECH_FUTURE_TECH_II".

Still crashing in the same turn. However, now that I myself try to select mysticism to research, the game crashes upon selection.

I'm using:
<AndPreReqs>
<PrereqTech>TECH_FUTURE_TECH_II</PrereqTech>
</AndPreReqs>

some problems with city names again

Also, I think that you should rename Thessaloniki to Pella. Pella was the Capital of the Macedonian Empire (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pella) and it was more important than Thessaloniki, which was found later than Pella too.
In my opinion, Pella should be the city name when a Greek civilization (Seleucids, Ptolemy, Bactria) controls it, and Thessaloniki when the Romans/Byzantines/whateverciv controls it.

also I noticed that the holy shrine for Hellinism is Hagia Sophia... a temple built to worship the orthodox god!!!!! you should replace the name with an ancient Greek Shrine. The problem is that The Greeks didn't have a single Shrine that someone could worship all the gods at once.. The Parthenon was dedicated to Athena (Roman Minerva), The Delphi Oracle was Dedicated to Apollon etc .. The only concept close enough to the Shrine is the Olympic Games. Though the games were dedicated to Zeus, he was considered the greatest and mightiest god, so pretty close to the Shrine concept

well it seems that Mysticism is the cause of the crash. if you set it so that it only has 1 prereq, FUTURE_TECH_II, doesn't matter if its "Or" or "And", it should be unresearchable by anyone.

Persia, Media, Parthia, Arachosia, Mesopotamia, Margiana, and Armenia

should probably add a couple more, maybe Bactria and Sogdiana

I will make those changes.

Um...your 220 AD start does not actually start in 220 AD. It starts around 170 AD.

Edit: I know you listed them here, but you really need to have the provinces for the Shahnashah titled listed in the UHV conditions and checked off much like any other province controlling condition.

Crimea needs to be inside Byzantium's stability map, since they had a history of having colonies there.

The Byzantines completely annexed the Levant up to Susa by 370, as well as extending their empire to the North past the Danube and South into Nubia.

Although East Rome wanted to keep the peace with the West Romans, they vassalized the Vandals the turn after they spawned, forcing war to start between the two halves of the empire, since the Byzantines had declared war on the Vandals as soon as they spawned. The West Romans later vassalized the Visigoths as well.

The East Roman navy won a series of crushing victories against the combined Germano-Latin navies after a few years of hardship, and Africa would be restored to a civilized entity.

The war, as well as recent barbarian incursions, were too much for Rome to handle, and so the western half fell. The East then led a two pronged assault, one through Illyricum and another by sea from Carthage, which resulted in the complete reunification of the Empire under one ruler once again!

Meanwhile, on the Eastern front, the armies of the Emperor fought against West Rome's ancient ally, Armenia, as well as crushing the heathens of Persia all the way to the Indus, purging the lands of pagans.

thanks for the report. sounds like a fun game. I hope it wasn't too easy. some questions:

was the barb pressure significant?

did Atilla make his appearance? and were those the 1st heavy horse archers you saw?

I guess you crushed the Franks when they spawned?

why do have sight of the Jin cities? espionage?

something is up with stability, you shouldn't be stable with all that land.

Barb pressure is way, waaaaaaayyyyy not strong enough. The only reason the West Romans collapsed is due to the arbitrary and forced flips to the germanic civs. Attila did make his first appearance, and it was the first time I saw heavy horse archers. I very narrowly defeated him at Constantinople, where I rushed walls, quite like in real life :) . Europe needs a lot more barbarian spawns like Attila e.g. 12 swordmans appear on the borders of Gaul or something like that, because barbarians are barely noticeable.

I have sight on the Jin cities thanks to the Byzantine UP and because I was focusing on them just to be able to see what was going on there for shits and giggles.

Stability is crazy broken for East Rome and I'm not sure why. My economy was doing insanely well, so I'm sure that was a boost, as well the courthouses I built (do they still give stability?)

Franks were the easy to crush, but it would give them more units, because then the game would be ridiculously easy as the human player. Although I have had games as the Franks were I died on turn 2 because I was annihilated by a massive Roman stack in Paris, but that's the fun of the randomness, in a way.

Ideas for making the fall of Rome better:

- Rogue Generals: the majority of the troops of a certain region turn into hostile rebels, or maybe "Roman rebel" civ (not a bad idea, considering the lack of civs in Europe). This could represent historical events such as the formation of the Gallic Empire or another of the many civil wars Rome had to face.

- More barbarians, as has been stated previously.

- West/East rivalry that isn't caused by silly vassalization disputes :)

- Sassanid pressure on East Rome needs to drastically increase.

- Germanic civ spawns as a follow-up to a massive barbarian invasion. These spawns should be seen as a positive event (less pressure on Rome, possibility of alliance, etc) rather than a forceful removal of territory.

Edit: Seleucid UHV Completion!

I agree with Crossphazers assesment of the Byzantines; compared to the other civilizations they were very easy. Barbarians were present, but not in large enough numbers to threaten a single marksman in city with city walls.

One possibility for creating rivalries between east and west Rome, and introducing different strategies: allow bribing of barbarians to attack the other. In either a random or predetermined year, you would get a quest box: "Atilla demands money to let you be and instead attack west Rome. Do you accept?" Refusing would spawn Attilla close to your borders, whereas bribing would spawn him at the western empire instead. The bribed Atilla would be stronger, to represent extra troops recruited with the money. Similar choice would be presented for west Rome. The choice of the ai could depend on 1) how much gold they have, 2) their military strength and 3) their attitude towards the other nation.

If anything, Attila should spawn in Germania or Hungary instead of arriving towards Constantinople. The real Attila didn't throw himself at Constantinople's walls because it was a pointless endeavour. Since the barbarian AI is not so great, Attila should be spawned west of Constantinople, so he can cause more havoc.

Seleucid's capital should be moved to Seleukia, so that when the Parthians invade, the loss of that city will be more dramatic. Also speaking of Seleukia, a lot of latin names need a greek equivalent.

I don't know what happened in your games but in mine, both as the Byzantines and the Seleucids, I fought 4-5 waves of horse archers before Attila eventually attacked me in Byzantion.

As the Seleucids he was really easy, using your unique barracks and some settled great generals you can build some super swordsmen and kill the Huns.

The bribe scenario would be fantastic really, and if I am not mistaken this is how the Byzantines coped with them in reality and sent them west.

Also there is a restless barbarian activity in Asia ( Samarqand and Merv area, Armenia etc), and in Northern Africa (Libyan units), I dont know why do you say that they are not enough !

Also if you need some help with Greek city names, let me know :)

And by the way, I control all the areas you said about the Shahnashah title but I haven't got the title.. Am I required to convert to Zoroastrianism to be able to hold the title?

Edit: strong stability is a result of : strong economy + empire civic + courthouse + jail + summer palace. Also I noticed while playing with the Byzantines that when I was killing the disbilevers my piety was going up, and my stability too.. So perhaps running a state religion while little or no foreign religion is present in cities ,helps having a strong stability

Hello! I Want gives to you my congratulations for this mod, because its are Historically accurate, and have a "Master strike" in the idea of put the chronology of this mod near of the "Wars of the Diadochi". Well, a i have few ideas which think be good put in this mod.:goodjob:

First is about the Seleucid Empire, the leaderhead of the Seleukos Nikator, have a beard, however a I don't remember which he have it. A believe which this other leaderheads of other mods, could be useful:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=5318547#post5318547

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=6653707

Other question is about the economy situation in the Seleucid Empire and the Ptolemaic Empire which are so very weak in relation of them history, and their provinces. The Persians and the Egyptians provinces( especially the "Mesopotamia") are the most riches in the resources and principally in the economic Infrastructure; and I note which they don't have any economic structures(when should be them have a "dynamic economic zones").
Other little questions is about pythons and cities, for example, The City of the Alexandreia Eschate(near the Samarqand) is not present. Is a good idea put this town and inside in this town, a new wonder: The pillars of Dionysus(Hellenic wonder, it's gave maybe bonus against barbarian and/or extra trade routes). Other good idea about the cities is upgrade this names in the Greek, it's useful the RFC sample: Antiokheia Megale(Antioch), Seleukeia, Seleukeia Susiana(Susa),Alexandreia Charax (Charax), Alexandreia Areion(Herat), Baktra(Bactra).

Other ideas is about the python of the Seleucid and the Bactrian civs, maybe put some Varietas Delectat(can be found in this link: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=237192') python could be good, like the greek elephants which like the seleucids and the bactrian elephants. Maybe be useful like inspiration the skins of the Mod of the game Roma Total War, the Europa Barbarorum, this game mod is the most deepest which I ever see. This can found in this link(this site have the image of the skins in the "Factions-units): http://www.europabarbarorum.com

Ps. forgive my bad and poor english, i'm brazilian and don't study so much the english language, my really sorry.

Further thoughts on the bribing idea: it could be that when bribed, instead of showing up in the other half of the empire, they would instead be presented with the same event the next turn. However, this time the demand for gold (and amount of barbarians if refused) would have increased. As such, it could bounce back and forth several times before one of the empires finally would bite the bullet or run out of cash.

I agree that the Statue of Zeus is the most appropriate wonder for a Hellenic holy city. Although it depends on what you consider to be the center of Hellenic culture after Alexander and in Roman times, because that was arguably rather Alexandria than Greece proper. So the Great Library idea has its merits as well.

re: Hellenic shrine: you guys are talking about what should be the hellenic shrine right? the whole shrine idea doesn't really jive well in this case, but we gotta use something. I was thinking the Oracle would be fine. whatever it is will be built long after 320BC since Egypt's first great person will usually be an engineer from the Pyramids, which makes both the Oracle and the Statue of Zeus ahistoric time-wise and location-wise. I want the Great Library to stay as a wonder and I will make the AI beeline it so it gets built there. may have to remove the 3 libraries requirement to make that happen reliably. However both the Oracle and the Statue are named so generically that at least neither will look all that incongruous(sp?). the Oracle at least is about knowledge, and so relates more to the representation of Hellenism as a cultural force in the game than the Statue, which seems to have more paternal/tribal/militaristic connotations.

I started reading the thread from the beginning and I noticed you were talking about the Greek holy shrine some months ago. So the question is : would you like the shrine to be a monument dedicated to god? or a place that arts/culture/science flourished during the Hellenistic era?

for the first option, yes a monument dedicated to Zeus would be the best

for the second, have you considered this -> The Alexandrian School (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandrian_school) ?
