RFC Classical World

thanks for the save. the constants for the civ descriptions for the later respawns were out of order so the Pallavas were the Roman Rebellion, the Vakatakas were the Rouran etc. the crash occurs when placing the spawn units for the kingdom of Shu in the 3 kingdoms setup. rev 188 fixes this. for those using the completely broken normal download, substitute the attached folder for the entire python folder in the mod, watch out for folders within folders from unzipping.

some other thoughts:

I'll definitely add the Xianbei as a minor civ like the Sakas. it fits perfectly since they will spawn after the Sakas die and die before the Hephthalites spawn

I like the Antigonids-Macedon idea, I just need to do some research and figure out how much I want to change. you could even start with a non-playable Alexandrian empire and spawn the Diodochi from it one by one.

as for Ghana, someone give me a good list of UHVs and UP and they're in. for a while though I also thought of using their slot for the Garamantines...

hmmmm and I had noticed that the Pallavas' flag looked familiar with the Roman one, but I said "meh, just a small graphic bug" :p

That sounds very interesting, but yes, the scripting for the collapse of the Alexandrian empire would necessitate some careful thought.

One suggestion would be to implemented some of the spawning conqueror mechanics that the Romans have for the successors from 320 to 270, to reflect the rise of ambitious generals and later heirs that would fight one another.

Greece was conquered by Antigonus' son Demetrius, who would later go on to capture Macedonia from Cassander's heir.

Also in the Babylonian War in 311-309 BC, Seleucus got his Eastern satrapies.

So yes, we could have a unified Alexandrian empire get broken down by lots of conquerors and allegiance flips, but it'd be a complicated series of events to reason about and script.

Edit: Played Antigonids. Victory against the two other successors seems to be easier than when I last tried it (I had no military pressure from the Seleucids and the Ptolemaic military was nowhere in sight.) However, later in the game around 200-150 BC, the barbarian, Roman and Jewish pressure is quite challenging and fun, so the balance there is done right (at least as far as the player experience. I don't know how the Rome AI would fare trying to hold all of this together).

Also, are there currently any Celtic barbarian invasions to simulate their invasion of Greece? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brennus_(3rd_century_BC)

Just tried, city names in China are still not updated?
Terrain in Gansu and Qinghai need some adjustment, the upper reach of Yellow River can be improved.
Nanzhao needs some adjustment too.

@ Sitalkas: that save crashes as it opens so I can't get any clues from it. do you have python exceptions enabled? any error messages?

@ thrash4ever: no the city name map in China has been adjusted for the new map. can you be more specific about your ideas?

Celtic invasion of Greece sounds interesting.

The more I read about Ghana -- the less they seem to fit within the time span of this mod. 600 AD is impossibly early, kingdom became more or less important circa 750 AD when the mod ends.

I LOLed !!

edit : update! so after meeting with the Numidians and their Sid leader they started contacting me every single turn asking me for favors ! Give me this technology, again gimme this technology, cancel your deals with the Kushans, cancel your deals again, again, again, gimme this technology.... OH MY GOD!

so I used the WB and added some barbarians to take care of them. And they did.

and on the next turn, the Numidians spawned again..... Again WB and I erased all their units.

next turn Numidians spawned.. I am doomed!

Hum... nice picture

rev 190

many small fixes including the repeating Numidian spawn and weird leader

I tried Kambuja and I think the tech goal is doable with the right combination of great scientists and great saints.

also added epic speed, 1 year per turn, its experimental as far as balance goes. gold and culture total UHVs have been updated to reflect this. I also really want to figure out how to run the autoplay in normal speed, then switch to epic after you spawn. you can do it by making a WBS and editing that, but it would be so nice to make it happen all the time.

rev 191

added the culture levels for epic speed

rev 192

restored the starting units for Wei, Shu and Wu in the 220AD map

updated and continuing my Tocharian game!

Numidians spawned as the Huns (around 450 AD, yellowish colour, near modern Hungary) , they are called "Numidians" and not Huns, their leader is still Sid Meier and they are again asking me for favours each turn!

- Crete, Rhodes, and Cyprus probably shouldn't be stable provinces for Carthage.
- Crimea should be renamed Taurica (more appropriate to the era).
- The oasis and olives for Ammonium should probably be moved 1N, both so that it can be at a more historically accurate location and so that Ammonium and the olives can be out of the Sahara Desert province and avoid all the barbarians there. Also, what city are the camels nearby meant for exactly?

Also, I don't think Moesia is really a good name for that province, given that Moesia was essentially what is now Bulgaria; I would suggest something like Roxolania.

Well, what do you think?

Also, the tile at the south of the Mekong Delta isn't part of Funan as it should be, and the province borders also need to be adjusted at the Eastern Siberian coast and Sakhalin.
