RFC Europe Files

Hey team,

We've had a number of changes accumulating in the SVN, so we should think about releasing Alpha 8. Functionally that just means exporting the latest SVN build (to get rid of all the .svn files), updating the README with the contents of the commit log, and uploading a ZIP file that calls itself Alpha 8.

I propose Sunday evening (US Eastern: GMT-5), because Sunday afternoon is the next time I'm going to be able to put in some time on the project. Does that work for people who plan to contribute anything else? If anyone (3Miro?) has a complex change currently underway I could be persuaded to wait.

My main two tasks outstanding are: (1) merge in the new civilopedia texts and (2) merge in JediClemente's new wonders. I'm actually not sure about that second point, I need to check with JediClemente. I know there's been a lot of good discussion about moving the colonies around, but I'm sure people are anxious to have a new version, so I think we should postpone that to Alpha 9.

You could go with my latest version of Diisenfranchised's list of techs required for wonders as posted. (Post 2327, just amended as per our agreement). I've explained the only thing he queried and have accomodated his latest suggestions, and I think it meets of the approval of st. lucifer as well. Perhaps others might want to comment but I think it addresses the previous problems pretty well. You could implement it , I think, and then it could be fine-tuned at a later date, if necessary.

Yeah, changing the colony techs is easy, and can be done. Re-arranging requirements and different types of "access" is a bit more involved -- though I admit I haven't read all that discussion so I don't quite know where ya'll are at.

I'm still planning on making some changes to the map (moving Iceland, adding an inlet to make Sevilla a better city site, making N. Africa more hospitable), but some of those will require updated city/settler maps, so I'm going to put it off until after the next alpha, if that's all right with everyone. I haven't gotten the hang of the SVN system yet and haven't had much time to explore it properly, so I'll be sure to update the map from the new alpha and re-post it for integration to sourceforge ASAP.

Sorry for all the delays. Life intercedes when it's least convenient.

What the heck is going on with sourceforge (with me at least)? While I have just postef a minor revision, properly updates etc, it shows merjin's contribution as last (contr. 28), while we have reached 30.

Sourceforge is sometimes a bit slow to show updates. I think that's what's going on right now.

Actually, I take that back. This is far longer than the normal delay. Clearly the website isn't updating properly (certainly all the changes are in the svn correctly).

Is there any way to report a bug on the sourceforge web-page or an announcement for a problem that they are aware of?

Can anybody check if this is going on with other sourceforge project as well?

And while sourceforge is being sorted out, can we just update the Alpha in the normal way and get a new version out asap, please?

Yes I would like it very much, didn't play RFC:E in a while as I've been waiting for the new patch.

Good idea, we should come up with a new version.

sedna, how about I do that later on today (say 8 - 9 pm eastern USA)? Or is there anything else that you want to take care of? We can still update files on sourceforge, they just don't show on the wep-page.

Sounds good. I have a couple more minor fixes to make, but I'll have them done before 8 pm tonight and you can release Alpha 9. Do you know how to use the Subversion "export" command? It extracts all the controlled files but leaves behind the .svn subdirectories (which would just add extra file size for everyone).

Maybe we should release Alpha 8 first?

New Alpha is out, grab it and love it.

I am very tired right now and unfortunately I will not be able to properly test the new respawn dynamics. Will do an Alpha 8.1 if necessary.

Awesome :)

Is their a difference between the rapidshare-version and the sourceforge-version?

I just put up a zip file on sourceforge for people who have trouble with rapidshare. The sizes are different because I stripped out the DLL source code (which players don't need) for the sourceforge version. Otherwise, the two version are exactly the same.
