RFC Europe playtesting feedback thread

The Anglo-French relations kinda bug me. What happens in the game is usually this: France hold Cherbourg/Caen/Evreux and possibly Calais. So when England arrives on the scene, these cities flip and France declares war on England. That is totally not what happened in reality.
[...]
This would more closely model the history from Duchy of Normandy to Angevin Empire.

There is a reason why England starts at war with France: if that was not the case, a french declaration of war after flipping the cities in Normandy (something likely to happen) would give the english some extra units.

A lot of things in RFCE are not close to model history. And this is the best way to let a war between the two begin, BTW.

Just finished UHVs as Cordoba and Bulgaria. Love the mod so far. One thing that struck me as odd in the Cordoba game is that the Catholic and Muslim holy cities at some point lost their status as such. Is this supposed to happen?

At the moment Hungary is not capable of building horse archers, and that's OK, because Hussars are UUs. But what about giving them horse archers at the beginning instead of the infantry units? (anyway at that time they didn't really have infantry units like guisarme or swordsman)

I don't think so. I've never seen that happen before, and I've played several games to 1800.

I've played this mod quite a bit, and have completed the UHV for (some I just had to click a lot to win, and I got bored) these civs: Bulgaria, Kiev, Genoa, Spain, Portugal, and Cordoba. I'm close to finishing Austria and ENgland too, and have had mixed success with Hungary and the Dutch.

To simplify, I have a lot of feedback. SHould I post it all here?

Yes, please.

OK here goes.

1. Bulgaria

First one I completed. Preslav was founded 1 tile west, and I founded Varna with second settler. First off, Konniks are balanced fine. You get plenty of them, but they aren't strong enough to really muscle their way through things. Odrin wasn't even protected, so I captured it with no casualties (or it was protected by somethign weak, I did this a while ago). COnstantinople didn't have a caste or walls, for whatever reason, so I was able to capture that in 700ish. Byzantium collapsed. I settled Badin and Prishtina, conquered Belgrad and Dobrovnik, and I founded Belograd one tile west to grab the sheep. Ottomans never attacked Tsiargrad, and to get peace I used knights to raze Bursa and capture Nicea. Faith points were easy to get, as I pumped GPs out of Tsarigrad with religous law. Never lost a city, and got the first objective in like 700.

2. Genoa

With some careful attacks (and a bit of saving) I captured Milano. Marsielles fell easily. I eventually ended up with Firenze and Napoli, the Knights Templar are awesome. Settled Corsica and Sardinia with the other 2 settlers. Settled Sicily with Agrigento), settled Cyprus on the salt (you get more production), settled Nicosia, and for a breif time I owned Tarsus they revolted and joined me). Got my two coprs pretty easy, and the banks let me make a profit at 100% science. Easily got the OBs, and ore then needed. Dublin was Islamic, thought that was crazy.

3. Kiev

Found Kiev one west, settled much larger then normal. It is very easy to suceed with your UP, and the only war you'll see is the Mongols. Keshiks were a pain though, lost and gained Terpinsk over and over again. But I foud build enough knights you can beat them. Faith points and coast objectives were easy, but I had to rush to get the 10 cereal one. I ended up with 11 in 13000 so I didn't need to rush after all to settle Mozir again. Overall, pretty easy. Iberia is weird: Spain ony has Santander and Pamplona, Portugal is much bigger then normal, and Cordoba collasped after taking the opther Spanish cities. French Milan.

4. Cordoba

I didn't do anyting unique here: just settled on spot, settled Sevilla, Ar-Ribat, Mogador, Tanja, and Al Hociema. Conquered all of Spain but Santander and Pamplona, but left Ports alone. Turtled up after reaching first two objectives. Easy stuff, Noia's are awesome.

I'll write more another time.

I would just like to take the time to thank everyone who has worked on making this MOD! I have been playing this MOD for just over a week.

The only real problem I have found is that the game will crash - this mostly will happen shortly after the civ has started or shortly thereafter. ie.. within the civ's first ten turns.

Is there any planned time for a patch release?

Ok, here's more feedback:

5. Austria

I counquered Hungary after DoW on the first tunr. Knights did most of the work. Kept Steinamanger (I let it flip), Ofenpest, the North Carpathian city. Founded Essen in Serbia, and a city by the Sulfur and Sheep. Pargue flipped, and founded SLiesia one tile South of the river. I stabilized and built up infrastructure, before building a knight/bombard army, taking Fiume and then Venice in a very bloody war. Venice had 3 wonders, so my plans to raze and resettle it outside the mud we scrapped. Capturing the city gave me like 150+points, pushing me to first in score. Went over to indie Tanja and captured to secoure Atlantic Access. I got 2 crusades in the 15 century (I know right?). First one didn't even happen, but the second one brought me troops outside the Holy Land in 148x. Captured then lost Juresalem. I got Military Tactics, so I built up a Kuraissier and cannon army, and then kicked Arabia's ass. They collapsed, and I got Damascus, Sour, and Jewcity (I hate spelling it so much.) Arabia had hordes of knights, but went on the defencive after I kicked him around with my crazy Kurassiers. I built a whole bunch of colonies and Rennianse wonders, being the tech leader. Not to difficult overall, I got bored at 1500ish because it was a matter of spamming troops, collecting Vassals. The reformation was small, so I still had lots of Catholic buddies.

6. England

Settled London, South Wales (not on the stone, or copper, or sheep), Plymouth, Wick, and captured Edinburgh. Farnce was weak, so I through all my troops exluding archers at Paris, it worked, and I captured the city before 1100. France collasped quickly after, and they never came back. Slowly over time swallowed up all the parts oif Farnce I'm supposed to, and vassaled Burgundy and conwuered them the rest of France they didn't own. Pretty much avoided war other that, and settled Ireland with Donegal and Tralee, which started with a conquered Dublin. I founded Protestantism in Dublin (oh, the irony), and every Catholic but Venice and Spain reformed with me, so there weren't large religious wars. FOunded lots of colonies and got Maggellan's voyage, which helped out tech a lot. GOt industrial rev in 1632 to win (I didn't have some techs not required). France should have a higher chance of respawning. Not that it would have matter, I garrisoned Paris with only one xbowman and had nights to take it back quickly.

7. Dutch

Holy smiley face, this is impossible. All the colnies that don't reuire trading companies and the colnies unlocked by the tech are gone, so I have to get trading companies, which took forever. A strong Germany stranlged my potential land, so my 2 cities took a while to get strong, plague killed me, though. I thought I had a chance of maybe succeding (I got the 3 GMs with apprenticeship), and the OB thing was easy (for some reason I'm 1337 at diplomacy), but the colonies is impossible. Maybe with a weaker SPain and ENgland I could do it, and if plague diudn't kill me so bad. I'm going to try again.

I'm playing Arabia and I notice Ghazi upgrade to Knights, could we make it so it could also upgrade to Pistoliers? They are much similar to Ghazi and they give you the option of building Ghazi and Knights concurrently.

Knights require Plate Armor and Chivalry and Chivalry requires Plate Armor effectively...

Can someone merge in the Mod Comp that allows you to build more than one item in a turn if you have enough production (finishes item them immediately puts production to next item in queue until it doesn't finish something or finishes the queue), as the Arabs it's annoying seeing my city have 30:hammers: and can only make one unit per turn even though it's only 1:hammers: per unit [pissed]

Yes Virginia I got faith points to 200 as Arabs and my cities grow super fast (only 1:food: per level) and units are only 1:hammers:

I want to be able to spam 300 hussars a turn and burn down Europe :ar15: and wipe the infidel Christians off the face of the Earth!

this may be off topic to the thread but DAMN thats badass

Arabia needs to be fixed for the player. It is amazingly overpowered but the AI seems to handle it very poorly.

Well, we are all waiting for a new version. Hope they will release one soon, because we are going round in circles here.

Crusade question...

When units leave on Crusade, do you ever get them back? As Austria my 2 knights left (my best 2 units)

No...

please can we get the Ghazi fixed at the same time then?

Actually it's not overpowered, I'm just good at breaking religion.

All the religions with a bonus that scales with faith are easily exploitable, with Orthodoxy it is the power of infinite sprawl (if done slowly and without domination victory on you can probably cover all the areas with good terrain). Islam is the power of the suicide bomber troops (really cheap units are easy to replace). Protestantism is basically free wonders, projects and techs. The other two are impossible for me because they are barely usable anyway

What's wrong with it?
