RFC Europe Wonders

Good point. I should have included that. Sorry.

I agree with that. I've tried to do that with the colonies I've done so far. While I might include some phrases from wiki I've tried to rewrite the salient facts in my own words as much as possible. Even so, I'm happy to cite wiki as the main source.

Nice job on the wonders and pedia texts. One question though. Aren't some of the texts extremely long? For the colonies I'm trying to stick to a 100-120 word format so they'll fit easily in the box and be interesting but fairly brief. When I have time I might have a go at editing some of yours down a bit, if that's OK with you.:)

Yes, I think some of them are too long (though others not). I'll add the "-wikipedia" in every entry, as I believe the ones that were already there some time ago are from the wiki also.

Edit: but please, comment about the changes also! :mischief:

I don't have any issue with the wonders you've added so I'd rather wait to see them in the next version of Alpha before I make specific comments about their functions and place in the tech tree. I would suggest that we've probably got to our limit of total wonders in the game unless someone makes a really good case for something else. Would you agree?

We do have a tendency towards More! Bigger! Better! in this mod, so I'm inagreement on a wonder cap. With the production available to cities like Leon, Dijon, Venice, Caesaraea, Sour, Jerusalem, London, Bristol, Chester, and Toledo (or Madrid/Salamanca), it's really easy to build wonders in under 10 turns - particularly those which have resource-based building bonuses, and the existence of some later wonders (particularly Leonardo's Inventions) skews that further.

I think it's great that we have all of these things represented, but many of the wonders are overpowered.

These cities are needy in the way of wonders

Copenhagen - Amalienborg Palace - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amalienborg
Lisbon - Mosteiro dos Jeronimos - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosteiro_dos_jeronimos
Vienna - Hofburg Palace - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hofburg_Palace
Vienna - The Burgtheater - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgtheater

I've explained Amalienborg and the Monastery before, just give the consensus on weather or not people want it.

The Hofburg was the residence for most of the Habsburg monarchs of the Austrian Empire, built a little late, but Vienna is a little desperate.

We were looking for a way to represent Austrian cultural/musical works: Mozart, opera, etc. The Burgtheater was the most important theater and Opera House in Austria and three of Mozart's Opera's premiered there, including the Marriage of Figaro.

It's been said so many times and by so many people. Jedi's got lots of new wonders for the next version.
We don't need any more wonders, not now and not in the near future. Please give it a rest, man!:D

I agree, jessiecat.

st.lucifer, if you say which wonders are overpowered we could tweak them down a bit. Anyway, I think it may be time for a city cap, that is, a maximum number of world wonders allowed per city.

As for other suggestions, Michael Vick, Lisbon will be already represented by Paço da Ribeira and Torre de Belém (I know, it's in Belém not Lisbon, but...). Though one could argue Vikings have only a very early wonder which becomes obsolete with time. Couldn't think of one more for them (Kalmar Castle is swedish, BTW).

Hey JediClemente,

Is the file you posted earlier in this thread the current status of your wonders? I can merge your files into the main development branch if you don't have the time to do it, but I'd like to do it with the most up-to-date set.

I've had a look at the mediafire file Jedi posted on 634 and I think he intended it for inclusion in the next version. AFAIK, anyway.

I dunno to what extent this thread refers to buildings or to city improvements, but I found an interesting improvement in the download thread, Wells (by Walter Hawkwood). I could propose this becoming a city improvement, giving a health bonus (always talking about Alpha 9)

Wouldn't that be a bit redundant? Cities were generally founded next to water sources, whether by rivers or wells. Europe can't be no exception.

They are nice models. My personal feeling is that there are perhaps a few too many buildings already in the mod. The more there are (especially new ones) the harder it is for a new player to figure out. Additionally, some of the buildings currently give similar bonuses, which isn't that exciting. For instance, I could see a well giving +1 health, but the herbalist already does this.

how about a well just gives a city that is not next to an oasis/river a fresh water source.

The buildings which I rarely/ever build are the tanner (never - the health penalty is a killer for those small bonuses), the weaver, the brewery (sometimes one or the other, but they're very low priority), and the coffee house. I haven't played many games which ran late enough for the coffee house, but I rarely have happiness problems even with 20+ population cities. It seems like we could eliminate some of those without taking much away.

If we're interested in adding the well, we could make it available with the same tech that makes quarrying possible, and give it either the same function as the herbalist (possibly making the herbalist much more expensive, and giving it a +2 health bonus?) or make it much more expensive and give it a +2 bonus.

If we really wanted to make it interesting, we might make cities with wells more likely to get plague, to represent outbreaks of cholera and typhus.

Yes I find my cities lacking health and having quite a lot of happiness.
Perhaps some angry faces can be added to things which are overpowered if it seems appropriate historically, or remove some happiness bonuses from things that give plenty.
