RFC Germania

Hesse is the English name for German Hessen, so whichever is preferred is fine. I'll swap my work to Hessen soon. I've already begun the base city name map, so we'll have that up soon.

This is to merijn in particular, but anyone can help with this. :p

Den Haag or Rotterdam? Because there's one tile that covers both.

Yeah, right now, I just took a look at Consts.py, and I'm using that as a reference.

EDIT: Sorry for this, I'm not very experience with modding at all. :)

Well, also the consts.py isn't complete yet. I also wouldn't take that as a reference. ;)

Den Haag. The Dutch government was (and still is) settled there. Therefore, I think it's more important than Rotterdam.
And Rotterdam wasn't such an important city as it is now back then.

No, I think we should use the English name, as all other RFC mods have done- we're not going to use Sachson (Saxony) or Schwaben (Swabia), so why should Hesse be special?

One of my favorite parts of the RFC mods has always been the dynamic city names. You know, like Aquileia/Venezia/Venedig/Venice/Etc...

The little touch of culture from the different languages adds to the immersion that I play this mod for.

That's not relevant currently. Of course we're going to have dynamic city names. In fact, that's what I'm working on right now. What we're discussing is the Hessian civ's short name.

Rotterdam was the second largest in the Netherlands of the 17th century with about 50,000 citizens and was an important harbor city, although not as significant as it is nowadays. Den Haag was residence of the parliament since 1585 though which would make it the more important city. Still, I'd go for 's Gravenhage since that was the official name, though it was often referred to as Den Haag in common speak.

I agree that Den Haag should be called 's-Gravenhage.

's Gravenhage

As now were on the subject of a correct name for the city, 's-Gravenhage is with a hyphon. ;)

If you're going to have those two Fredericks as Swabian leaders, then you're going to need Swabia to spawn a lot earlier as the Duchy of Swabia- perhaps in 917 (its creation) or 1079 (accession of the House of Hohenstaufen)?

Lombardy's capital should be Milan; I presume it represents first the Kingdom of Italy, then eventually the Lombard League and the Duchy of Milan?

Frisia's capital should be Groningen, Prussia's should be Konigsberg (later Berlin), Swabia's Stuttgart (maybe), Savoy's Chambery, Lower Saxony's Hannover, Lorraine's Nancy, and Baden's Baden-Baden. The rest should be pretty obvious.

Also, it seems that I can't comment again.

If Konigsberg is the capital of Prussia, where should the Teutonic Knights spawn? Swabia's capital should be Konstanz or Augsburg.

do you guys have the mod loading and running with the map? do you know about the 3 flipping tiles for auto-play catapult, city flipping and mercenaries?

Leeuwarden would be more appropriate.

The mod is loading properly, but I get an error when I try to load the map. When I click "Play a scenario" or "Custom Scenario", I get a CTD.

If that tiles you are talking about are one of the first lines in the consts.py, then yes, I noticed them. (yesterday in fact). Now they are the small island near Stockholm at the edge of the map.

Königberg wasn't the capital of the Teutonic Order until 1454. Before that, Marienburg was the capital. So that one will probably suite best.

But if the Prussians spawn in Konigsberg and the Teutonic Knights spawn in Marienburg, the cultural borders will get screwed up. The Prussians need to expand west and Marienburg will block them. And Konigsberg was more important than Marienburg, it needs to be included. And the cities would be two tiles away from each other, which is kind of close. Besides, the Knights need to be more east than west so their capital is closer to the Baltics.
