Old opening post:
Spoiler :
Alright everyone
I finally fixed the leader switching issues, everything should work fine now
But it is hard to test, thus I decided to upload it here and ask for help in it

This pack is based on Beta 5, with all the recent svn updates included - this means the sound pack and the hungarian ethnic art are also there

Furthermore, I slightly updated some of the leaders, and also added 4 new ones (mostly for testing purposes)
The important changes here:
  • New skin for Abu Bakr
  • New skin and background for Philip II
  • Added Haakon IV as middle norse leader
  • Added Maria II as late portugal leader
  • Added George III as late english leader
  • Added Andera Dandolo as second venetian leader
Note that some of them are not perfect, but as I said the main reason was testing
So I'm really curious about everyone's opinion in these changes
Should the LHs stay, changed/changed back or dropped?
Also, please report if the mod got slower, too much art can cause speed problems
(these files are not in the fpk yet, so it will get faster btw)

You just have to download this rar, and overwrite your mods/RFCEurope folder with the RFCEurope folder in the rar (with overwriting everything)

EDIT2: Sry guys, megaupload messed up with the links :crazyeye: because I had another file with the same name
Reuploaded the correct rar with different name, everything should be ok now
Please dl it again if the file size is not around 70 megabytes

EDIT: I couldn't stand to leave out the screenies ;)

I suppose the package is based on revision 525?

Yes, I included everything from the svn including revision 525
I also changed the sound links in the leaderheadinfos.xml for the renaissance era to _late from _middle

But don't upload any of this to the svn
This is just for testing. Also, I plan to keep only those leaders which seems to be popular here

If everything is decided and looks good, I will make an update for you with the changed files only (since svn 525), pak the art files, and write a changelog
This way it will be easy to update the svn

Does the patch break save games?

No worries, I'll just apply the patch for my next go through.

Does the patch break save games?

Actually it's not
At least I was adding and testing all the changes while playing the same game

But if there are some issues with it, you can always reinstall beta 5 and continue with that...

Okay, I will try this out, I always thought this needed to be touched upon. Thank you I will try it.

After a few more test games, leader switching seems to work fine for me
What should be the switching dates?
Not everything is accurate right now (see second post)

I would also really like to hear some opinions on the leaders
Actually some of them are not the final version ATM, but they are not bad at all
Which ones should get in Beta 6? Is the new skin for Abu Bakr and Philip II better? And the BG?

Yay! Double post!

Okay, here's what went wrong right away:

:eek:That isn't right!

Abu Bakr looked better originally(The new BG for him should stay though), but I think the rest are fine. Now I've only been playing for a bit, but I would like to see a new skin for Fredrick Barbarossa; I just don't like it that much. Jan Sobieski needs a fix, his shoulder's kept disappearing!

The Pope is a problem. You don't happen to know how did this happen? Is it stability or something else?

What is the problem with Tolosa? I don't see a problem of Cordoba getting a city in France.

Yeah, Cordoban Tolosa is totally fine every once and a while
The papal bug is not a big issue IMO
They collapse because of stability, I have also seen it in 1 or 2 of my games
But they were always "respawned" soon, so I think it's fine this way

Never touched the bg of Abu Bakr, and IMO his clothes were a little blurry and plain before
Barbarossa should definitely be changed, but I didn't find a perfect replacement yet
Maybe one of these can be used as a base:

I just remembered to make a comment. We should not use titles like "the Conqueror" or "the Wise" for the leaders. Every great leader has one or another, it is up to the player (or the AI) to live up to the title. That is how it works in BtS and RFC, we have Alexander (as opposed to the Great) and Suleiman (as opposed to the Magnificent). We should use just William and Yaroslav (we already leave off "the Terrible" from Ivan's name).

They are not used, except for William the Conqueror
The rest are just the civilopedia entries, which are fine this way

I changed William's xml entry to:
Code:
        <TEXT>
		<Tag>TXT_KEY_LEADER_WILLIAM</Tag>
		<English>William I</English>
		<French>Guillaume Ier</French>
		<German>Wilhelm I.</German>
		<Italian>Guglielmo I</Italian>
		<Spanish>Guillermo I</Spanish>
		<Russian/>
	</TEXT>

Now everything should be ok

I will change it.

There is only one problem. Another name that should be changed is Philip the Bold. But if you want the "normal" name, you'll get Philip II. And that name is already in use for a Spanish leader.

I don't mind having Philip the Bold as an exception
But there is a typo: it's spelled Phillip the Bold right now (with 2 l-s)

To change the discussion....
For Barabossa, I really think the second pic (the one in the middle) looks the best. The BG is awesome and the overall design is reminiscent to Charlemagne and has a very professional feel to it. The first and the one on the bottom look okay but not as good.

As for Jan Sobieski, I think he really deserves a fix, his shoulders kept disappearing!

All in all, there needs to be more leaders, I hate seeing Philip the Bold a little late in my game. Sword of Islam, though I haven't played it in awhile, I think it has a good variety of leaders for each era. So more leaders is needed, and fixes to old ones like Poland's Sobieski and Germany's Barabossa.

Doesn't Geroge III have a skin on Civ colonization? You could use that one.

Is it just me or is Genoa's Simone really close to Bulgaria's Simeon?

I like the percent chance thing by the way
