Rhye's Catapult

Rhye, I run a test of 040A, no techs for Spain :( check your mail for save file

EDIT

er, and also not much techs for Arabs

AND:

Spain also has no units for making more cities than Capital at start!

EDIT 2

Strange  but Spain and England (also started with no tech)
giot their techs a few turns later.

France got them at start

But Germany and Russia did not get techs even by AD 1000

hm...

V40. England, difficulty Prince. Around 1000 AD and in the Industrial Age. I've got two cities in great Britain, one in North america, one in Iceland, one in Ireland, one in Brazil near the oil and the last one in the Netherlands. I had other 3 cities in Europe but flipped to France and Germany. I hated it, since I had academies, versailles and a couple of superartists.
The game is pretty easy, no real problems with the barbarians. I took almost all the wonders and founded all the religions except for Hinduism and Taoism. Definitely, prince is too easy for a "medium" setting.

AD 1000? Are sure about that, Riker? ;)

Rhye, I saw Persia founding a city in South Africa in AD 900!

I have run other tests till AD 1000 but
I can't find out the way the code is running with Europeans' techs...
In a test all got them when Bismarck came, but Peter not, he has only 2...

V040 A... with germany on prince.

1600 AD:
Germany rule ALL of Europe, and could easily take more land.
I got THREE times the score as #2. (3000 - 1000)
Science has been on 100% throughout the whole game, and i got almost every wonder.
I trapped(?) the romans, by building a city where venice would be, and put two artists in the city - cultureboom... Some years after, i got Rome culturally, and there were no dangers for germany, exept for barbarians...

so I agree with Riker, prince is too easy

But... Despite it being too easy, i very much like the way the asian civs are doing. The are quite peaceful, and their borders are the same as IRL - the same thing goes for the south-american civs.

AD 1000? Are sure about that, Riker?

My last autosave is at 1130 ad. Tomorrow I'll finish the game.

I have a feeling that something could be wrong with your system.
The things you say happen to me too, with your saves, but I never experienced those things in the test games I started. I checked Spain all the times and it always was ok.

Do you always delete your mod folder and replace it? Try to clear the cache too

Probably as the current levels are tuned for AIs that spawn later, they are more appropriate to late spawning human player, when he has to catch up big empires.
I've raised some values but in next version we'll check if this suposition is true.

For now, I'd like to know some data about v40 balancement

Rhye, I did a complete reinstall of Civ4 and put on 1.61 and then put the mod into the MyGames.../MODS folder (this time)

And still...
No techs for Arabs, no tech for Spain - and then I gave up... :(

EDIT:

Hm, after the reinstall, there are still olda mods in the main Mods folder!
???
Now I erase them all... and put Rhye in...

EDIT 2

Can Blue Marble be a problem?
(it is still on... I don't understand that)

did you restart the game instead of loading it?

Well, I quit the game to desktop, I uninstall the whole civ4 game, except the patch 1.61 file

Then I install civ4, patch, put mod in - then launch game with icon :)

EDIT

I am sure I had a new install as graphic settings were default, I had to switch them back to what I like

I tried a game of 040A as the English on Prince level...

Going along great. In 400s BC landed a scout to lok around the mainland. Made contact with Rome and India, but no Greece. I was not playing in debug mode, so I do not know if they did not spawn, but as there is no ruins in the location of Athens, I belive they did not.

In a quick test game in debug mode previously I did see them spawn however.

Strange...

I think Prince may be too easy for the human player to get a big lead. My three cities in the British Isles get most of teh early wonders and 2 religions.

...Taking a look in debug mode I noticed that the AI settled far more compactly than in 038.

Both China and Japan settled cities on 2 squares apart.

Anybody please, Barak, Riker, anybody...
Play a debug game, "play" with inca, click-click until AD 730
and tell me if Arabia and Spain has their techs given...

I tried playing Prince level as Roosevelt of the American Empire. I too found this incredibly easy. The barbarians were an annoyance in the beginning, but once I got Monarchy researched and the Oracle built, I beelined Feudalism for Longbows. From then on, I expanded throughout the continent. Even though isolated from everyone else, I still had the top producton, science, and growth. This is mainly caused by two reasons:

One, North America is rich in corn, deer, marble, and stone; easy to cultivate and prosper from. However, I do undertstand the Aztecs and America civilizations spawn late in the game. So the rich land is necessary for them to catch up.

Two, I think it comes to a major flaw in handicapping the AIs. I know you are trying to balance them with eachother, but you should really be balancing them towards the player. The AI is settling their cities so close that they are crippling their growth and economy. For example, Spain settled 7 cities on the Iberian peninsula! I feel I have no real competition while the other civlizations stumble over themselves.

Another thing I noticed was that the Roman civilization didn't spawn. Either they didn't spawn or were wiped out the same turn. This kind of threw havoc in Europe as those barbarian cities really grew strong. But in the end they flipped to the spawning European civs, so it all worked out for the best. Again, like the others said, England, Germany, and Spain did not start with the basic technologies.

Right now, I'm just starting in the 1000's AD. I entered the Inustrial Era around 1100 or so. I am just building some railroads a few turns later. I think I can squeeze in a Space Victory probably before the 1700's or 1800's. Quite funny actually.

Just fix some balancing issues and this could become the greatest CIV IV mod out there :D

HUHH, I am stupid - When uninstalling, I unchecked things, instead of letting uninstall clear user specific data - now I have a faint hope in a new reinstall ;)
