When asked this riddle, 80% of kindergarten kids got the answer, compared to 17% of Stanford University seniors.

What is greater than God,
More evil than the devil,
The poor have it,
The rich need it,
And if you eat it, you'll die?

I dont get it, And I don't have the answer.

although technically...

God is just a construct
so is the devil
the poor have something, if they had nothing that'd be broke & destitute, not poor
the rich still have needs in they desire to remain rich
and you won't die right away if you eat it.

;)

That riddle is so full of bolony, that no wonder only the kindergarten-habitants got it  (it must be an American thing to teach children to think that way :p - j/k ).
Well, the last part of that is true though (atleast in most cases).

Yup it's NOTHING

It's an ooooooold one indeed.
I remember seeing it also in the Wake of Gods exp for Heroes III - a sphinx said this riddle ...

Prove it. (Just kidding). But if God is just a construct, than 'nothing' is greater than Him anyways, as 'nothing is at least a real concept.

Yup, I've heard this one before.

being really nitpicky, you can eat NOTHING and still live. You just have to drink enough. ;)

Only for a few months, though.

really? Do we really need to ingest solid food? I guess there might be some obscure reason; I just cannot think of any.

If burning glucose for energy so that we can live is an obscure reason, then yes.

Errr... you cannot get glucose (or any other nutrients) from drinks? IIRC, just milk alone pretty much has everything we need to sustain ourselves.

You can, but they are usually sucrose, which is broken down into glucose quite quickly.

Milk has: Fat, lactose...calcium, some b-complex vitamins....

Nup, you can't live on just milk, but it is a very good addition to any diet.

In fact, crush up some vitamins into that milk, and you can live a normal life, though you would get bored

You would also need to add protein, fibre and minerals to make that completely dependable on.

@Ultima Dragoon: I am utterly unconvinced.

There is no theoritical reason (again as far as I can think of right now) why any "solid" food is necessary for long term sustenance. I can probably agree that milk alone will not suffice; but that does not mean that you cannot concoct a liquid only diet consisting of variety of liquids which will constitute a wholesome diet.

Can you name a single nutritional component that is not existent in liquid form in nature (or cannot be created in a liquid form). I very much doubt! Even if such a hypothetical nutritional component existed, all you would need to do is smash it up and dissolve it in water and drink it.

I agree it would get very boring though.
