Illustrious got it right

In a remore monastery in Tibet live 53 monks. They have made a vow of silence and poverty. Every day, they gather to pray, and then they can all see each other.
Then, a doctor from outside tell them they have some sick in their community. The sick monks have a dot in their forehead, but they cannot see it (they don't have any mirror), and they cannot tell each other (they vowed not to communicate).
The doctor tells them as soon as a sick realize he's sick, he should isolate himself.

After 5 days, all the sick monks are isolated. How many are they?

Note 1: They are all supposed to be bright enough to make the correct logical deduction when required

Note 2: No monk catch the disease during the 5 days : all the sick monks were sick from the start.

The Operasetti twins are famous Italians.
Benito is a classical guitar player, and Ronaldo is an opera singer.
They are absolutely identical.
One day, one of them is found face down, naked, in a field.
After a quick five minute prognosis, the detective on the scene says "Well, opera won't suffer. This is Benito".
How could he be sure in such a short space of time?

Benito had callouses on his fingers.

(I got my guitar back yesterday from being fixed and after 7 weeks of not playing I had no callouses :( it hurts a lot, but I learnt a new jazz solo! )

they gather all the monks, and count have many have dots. If only four-voila!
The monk must find by themselves who are the sick, without the possibility to communicate

Have a brownie point! :D

Steph: I mean when they pray, they look at the other monks. If they see only four monks with dots, then they are one of the sick ones.

Five monks were sick.

If only one monk were sick, then on the first day he would be with the others to pray and see no dots. Since the doctor said there was at least one sick monk, he would know it must be him and isolate himself.

If there were two sick monks, then each would see only one other dot the first day. Each would know that, if that other monk were the only one sick, he would isolate himself after the first day. When prayer comes 'round on day 2 and the other monk is still there, he would realize that more than one monk must be sick -- since he can see everyone else, that would mean the other sick monk was him. Same logic holds for the second sick monk, and both would isolate themselves after the second day.

In the same manner, three sick monks would isolate themselves after the third day, four after the fourth day, and five after the fifth.

I love these kinds of riddles... not because I can actually solve them, but because... umm... well... they're clever. *shrugs* They make me ponder, and then after that, give up and wallow hopelessly until I know the answer.

I have a book of lateral thinking puzzles  Let's see what kind of damage I can inflict.

[Perplexing Lateral Thinking Puzzles, written by Paul Sloane and Des MacHake]

"Light Years Ahead"
If you could travel faster than the speed of light, then you could catch up with the light which radiated from your body some time ago. You would then be able to see yourself as you used to be when you were younger. Although faster-than light travel is impossible, at least at this time, how can we catch up with the light that we radiated earlier and see ourselves directly -- as we used to be? (Such captured images as photographs, movies, and videotape do not count.)

Spoiler CLUE #1 :
There is a way in which we can see the light in which we were radiated and therefore an image of the way we were.

Spoiler CLUE #2 :
It is a common experience to view this image.

"A Riddle"
Four men sat down to play.
They played all night till the break of day.
They played for gold and not for fun,
With seperate scores for everyone.
When they came to square accounts
They all made fair amounts.
Can you this paradox explain?
If no one lost, how could all gain?

Spoiler CLUE #1 :
They played seriously and each did his best.

Spoiler CLUE #2 :
Each man came out ahead.

Spoiler CLUE #3 :
No one joined their group.

I won't leave any answers yet ;)

When you look at yourself in the mirror, you're looking a billionth of a second into the past (or something like that) and therefore seeing yourself "as you were".

Oops, sorry, mrtn, I didn't scroll properly. Duplicate answer.

A small miracle hangs near a man's thigh,
Full under folds. It is stiff, strong,
Bold, brassy, and pierced in front.
When a young lord lifts his tunic
Over his knees, he wants to greet
With the hard head of this hanging creature
The hole it has long come to fill.

Spoiler :
It's not what you think it is.

a key!

I'm an immature moron... giggling for a good minute after reading that the first time.
