[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

Yeah, that is likely anachronistic. I believe eating tarantulas only became popular during the dark days of the Khmer Rouge when starvation was rampant.

The first historical record of frying food goes back to 5th Century BC in Greece, however. So, it is not out of the question that the Khmer could have fried some food.

Phillip II makes frequent references to "God" and "the Lord," and Saladin references Allah, so it wouldn't be without precedent. Had Darius II led Persia, he would no doubt have invoked Ahura Mazda (or Auramazda, in Old Persian). Harald Hardrada (anachronistically) invokes Odin and says he's bound for Valhalla. Monty invokes Huitzilopochtli. Jadwiga also references God and the Lord.
Don't forget Phillip II's trade delegation offering churros. The most common theory was that churros were based on the Chinese youtiao and churros did not exist until the Portuguese introduced the youtiao to Spain and the Spaniards later modifying it.

Perhaps if Carthage, Toronto or Lisbon get replaced in Rise & Fall (or possible post-R&F expansion packs in the case of Lisbon) we might see Munich as a Bavarian city-state?
(Just in case the dream about the Kingdom of Bohemia appearing as a separate Civ doesn't come true,) I would prefer Plzeň / Pilsen or Praha / Prague instead of München / Munich as a city-state. German cities are already represented enough.

Scholars seem to be divided on the issue. Some say it is Hannibal and others say it is a diety.

It would be interesting to have the Cartheginians worshipping an obviously negroid diety, however. That would indicate something in regards to racial relations and identity, that’s for sure.
While there is indeed a coin about which it is discussed if it is the only image of Hannibal existing, it is not the one you‘ve posted a link about and it doesn‘t show an elephant on the back side.

They haven't said they'll do a livestream for every leader have they? I mean, Chandragupta isn't mind-blowingly different from Ghandi. I'm not sure I need to see him when there's no sign of Emergencies or Alliances yet and we still have unconfirmed wonders and naturals.

I think it is safe to say we have all the worders

...and Château Frontenac is a red herring for now.
... and possibly also the Cappadocia on the cover art is a red herring. In the information thread 7 out of 7 natural wonders are given. Though the "red mountain" has yet to be validated to be a wonder.

There's a chance that "red mountain" is either just a desert mountain viewed during twilight or Cappadocia or another natural wonder.

But we don't know what they all do yet (South Pole Station). Three naturals have been seen and not identified (or have multiple identifications and we won't know what they are until the devs confirm).

Good point-- that and the Château might imply that both Canada and the Ottomans (or Byzantium) will be R&F-exclusive DLC. People would certainly buy them. But there still hasn't been any confirmation on DLC so far. If only somebody could ask...
