[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

I can usually get a religion on Prince or King, but you can't delay AT all. Scout, slinger, builder, settler, then holy site. Any longer than that and you won't get it.

I don't even wait that long. Settler as soon as pop hits 2, then holy site in both cities. (or one HS in city 2 and another settler in the capital)

I finally gave in a bought R&F.

I haven't played it much, and I'm sure this has been said before, but the Golden Age perk where you get science from the adjacency bonuses for commercial and harbor districts is severely broken, since the bonus works in conjuction with policy cards that doubles the adjacency bonuses for commercial and harbor districts, respectively. It's ridiculously easy to have both pumping it 12+ science each per turn from the adjacency bonuses alone, more if you use either England or Australia. You can easily slingshot waaay ahead of the AI.

Is there any particular reason France tends to exert loyalty really well? In a TSL Europe game they easily flipped Amsterdam and London, then in a TSL Giant Earth (YNAMP) they flipped London, Amsterdam (Essen), and a Spanish settled Toulouse.

Can't think of anything. Maybe it's just coincidence.

(after all, in the one game post-R&F where I've seen France, I flipped them out of existence...)

The AI likes building wonders + France gets a wonder bonus + wonders give era score = Consistent GA's with boosted loyalty for France perhaps? That's the only explanation I can think of.

I think Georgia is the weakest of the new civs. Tried several games on level "king" and never even managed to found a religion. What can you do if the AI gets all prophets in a very short time?
And then the Georgian unique ability is basically worthless.
Since R&F, you can get a religion even on Deity very consistently. The trick is running holy site prayer projects. With only one holy site and 2-3 prayer projects, you should be able to get a religion around turn 45-50 this way (standard speed) which is super early on King.

Spies? I found them to be pretty effective for loyalty conquests.

AI barely/not at all uses them like that though.

They are indeed very powerful. (right now I've got three spies in what's left of Germany after they entered a Dark Age...)

Wow, actually witnessed the AI civilizations succeed in a City-state emergency by themselves without my help. first time I seen that, at least that I know of. They retook Zanzibar from the Zulu. Of course it wouldn't surprise me if someone retook Zanzibar at a later time.

Last night when playing I also saw the AI win an emergency without me for the first time! Alexander was going ham on the city states, and Rome (to his North) + France (to his South) actually managed to surround him, close in on him, and take the city they needed to win the emergency. It was actually super cool to watch.

And 30 turns later the Zulu retake Zimbabwe, this time no emergency. Good thing I was hesitant to invest envoys into Zimbabwe. :)

Was sad that with all these diplomacy changes diplomatic victories did not make a return. :(

@Eagle Pursuit, any more activity on SteamDB as of late?

Mac and Linux are humming along. I understand the due date for R&F for those systems has slid to late March/early April.

After a burst of 3 qa build updates early in the week, it was quiet until another one updated today. I don't see a patch dropping in the next week, maybe further out.

There's no new DLC apps or depots, so there's still no sign of DLCs in the early second quarter or expansions in the second or third quarter.

Is it possible they've come up with a way to hide such files given that they now know that fanatics such as you are paying close attention?

I suppose so. But I'm hardly the first person to use SteamDB to spy on Firaxis. BNW was discovered in this way. That didn't stop them from doing in in their accustomed way, it only caused them to use code names.

That sounds like effort for no apparent benefit to the company. If all we know is that they're working on "something", I'm not sure why that would concern them.
