[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

Yes, but think of if you had that money in a savings account for the next three months and then pre-ordered the day before. That's like 7 cents of interest you've missed out on ;)

But it's also thirty bucks you don't spend on something else in the meantime. ;)

(I haven't pre-ordered, but that's because I have a lot of other things I need to spend money on in the next month or two)

What? Which bank pays you 7 cent for $30 in just 3 months? Do tell and I want IN!

That should just be about 1% annual interest. I've got a savings account in an online bank that does that.

That was one of my major reasons as well with having steam credits - get something I know I'll like rather than a bunch of $5 steam sale games I may barely play.

I’m picky about banks & insurance companies. Don’t want one that profited off of slavery.

Very well, sixty-four days. I'm going to try Cultural game as England. Let's hope that the Chinese Toad won't appear and denounce me for his incompetence to build a wonder

I just did exactly that. Qin stopped by every few turns to complain that I should just gaze on the (non-existent) wonders of the Middle Kingdom, but despite that we remained fast friends for most of the game. :p

Heh, I've never managed to befriend Qin Shi Huang. Same with Pedro, although the only game when he actually offered me to be his friend was my game as Macedon, when he was the first I wanted to kill, so I obviously didn't accept :P I didn't win the game, because Gandhi had too many elephants, so I couldn't conquer him.

I'm always leery to accept Pedro's friendship, because he's a treacherous backstabber--I'll trust CdM any day before I trust him (honestly, send delegations and CdM is the easiest leader in the game to keep happy :p )...

I know that - she is the easiest leader to befriend me, and usually France is one of my closest allies.

The real backstabbers, however, are Teddy and Gilgamesh (but that one will at least become a loyal ally if you manage to survive his war-cart rush) :P

Pedro and Pericles are the two leaders I cannot peacefully coexist with. No matter how I play or what victory condition I'm going for I can bank on being these two jerks declaring war on me at some point in the game.

For supposedly liking peaceful civs and loyal friends, Teddy is an out-of-control warmonger and backstabber. :(

lol Cathérine is a massive, notorious backstabber as well. In my last game I was friendly with her and both she and Saladin declared JUST as I was about to wage war on the other side of my kingdom.

Really? My experience with CdM has always been war in the ancient era followed by friendship for the rest of the game. I'm accustomed to being most frequently backstabbed by Teddy, Pedro, and (ironically) Tomyris--all of those will frequently declare war after years of friendship. It's happened once each with Jayavarman and Mvemba, but it doesn't seem to be a trend with either of them.

Just like real America.

(that doesn't go too far, does it?)

oh Teddy is HORRIBLE!! Not as bad as Pedrodemon, but it's still annoying to be denounced for... basically no reason? lulz.

I don't think that's entirely true when we are talking about cross-platform play as the major stumbling block (Aspyr has multiplayer working between Mac and Mac and Mac and Linux fine). The PC - Mac xplay is more complicated and requires work on both sides.

Ideally, knowing they were doing xplatform eventually, Firaxis would've taken that account in the technical design for multiplayer (and they likely did to some degree but it's much more complicated than expected due to unforeseen issues). Ideally of course, Apple would also have been providing decent graphic cards and good API for them, but what can you do.

The overall conclusion from the discussion in the Steam Mac Thread over the past year and almost two months, I think, supports what @bbbt says above. (Steam is the preferred way for Aspyr to communicate about Civ VI development). I must say first that this discussion has been weaved by all sorts of folks, some with game development experience, many as inquisitive and intelligent folk as we mostly find here, but definitely with a more numerous bunch of, let's just say, "misinformed and passionate" crowd, but at the end their posts also pushed forward the conversation. However, this has included a surprising number of posts from Aspyr, some more candid especially as of late. All the information shared there has many thinking, me included, that there is a problem at the source and that the expected cooperation didn't happen as expected. However, I am not removing the responsibility from Aspyr, especially, after they have finally done a sort of mea culpa by our insistence. Regardless, there is a very good chance, for us Mac users, to be looking at past the holidays to finally get the latest DLC and patch. Who knows when we will get the Expansion and that worries me. I have gotten all excited as all of you have following and commenting on this thread.

I give Aspyr props for communicating more, at least. Something Firaxis doesn't do, in my opinion, or if they do, please, let me know where to look for it. If indeed there is a cooperation and source programming issue (there are issues with Mac and Linux, of course), I echo what one poster said there: "At some point in the Civ universe, it was decided that Civ would support the Mac/Linux community. Civ could be a Windows only game, it would be successful, but Civ saw value in the Mac/Linux community. At this point, Civ had a fiduciary responsibility to its stakeholders." He ends it with a positive spin. Kudos for him.

As for me, I am excited about the Expansion and excited about Korea. Happy that I had a hunch that it would be out first civ. I have been loving the game for a log while now, but I have not pre-ordered and it is a first. I'll reconsider as I see what Aspyr and Firaxis do in the following months for Mac users. Regardless, as I have been saying as of late, the one benefit from getting updates later is that I get to see reactions and make informed decisions, as much as I feel the urge to just get them right away.

but I have not pre-ordered and it is a first.

I think that is the right decision for Mac users. If I were one, I wouldn't order another thing from them until it was actually released on my platform.

I do feel however, as a PC user, that Firaxis has delivered to my expectations (with warts and all) - and I will continue to pre-order Civ content. The only reason I haven't purchased R&F yet is that I am holding out hope for a Steam gift card for Christmas.
